She's made us proud??? Proud of what??? Proud of being hypocrites? Proud of being complainers??? And liars, atually. She denied what she herself claimed. As it is, everything was planned and she got money for it (just like the WWF events).

I agree with you Kaushik, stupid article and I am surprised rediff puts up articles like these...watching the clips on the web, she came across like a loser !

Well it might be just me but I am kinda inclined to think that most of the people on this board who have negative opinions about the article have never seen the show under question. One has to keep in mind that the contestants of the show do not have a clue as to what is going on in the outside world. They are sequestered for the length of the show. So to accuse Shilpa Shetty of retracting her former statement does not make much sense because as far as she is concerned, its just her words and her perceptions. They are bound to change whenever she feels like it.

dude whenever u feel some unusual behaviour from a forenigner.. the first thing which will come to your mind will be that it is may be u r indian.. then after a bit thinking or as the time pass u may also feel that the behaviour was momentous.. may be same happend with shilpa too
requesting all celebriies not to perform out side india, because what is happen with shilpa everybody knows, also we are not getting a singel oscar awards, i think this parslity is going on with india not only with any individual.
Hence requesting more people to add there views in this concern.

Why not to perform outside India? why to close door to some opportunity because someone may/nay not like you. Dont worry about someone. Be selfish. Be like people in west. They do what they want to without thinking what others will think. If due to fear of hostility English people had not came to India they would have never ruled such a big empire for 200 yrs

I fully agree with Rahul. While whatever Shilpa gained form the controversy is for her to mull over, and may be enjoy, it's a fact that racism is alive and well in the world today. The one thing that Indians have been criticized for, and perhaps rightly so, is lack of entrepreneurism and the play-safe approach. This is not a world for that. We have to bring the world to our knees the same way we did to the British all those years ago - by showing scant regard for things such as racism. It hurts, and it is for real, but it's not an unsurmountable obstacle. Millions of Indians face it everyday, but by backing off, you accept that whatever is being said is true and it is a mental blow to you. For years and years, India has shown resilience in every aspect of life, and if you want to be proud of anything about India, show it by adopting such resilience. Sometimes, you have to inavde someone else's territory to fill your stomach. It's not a crime; it's the way the world works and it's only the fittest and most resilient that survive.

then shilpa should give fight till the end then result may what ever. then dont fear of british gov, international laws. there our indian government nerver hit strongly, our gov should ban there channels, there pictures releaseing in india, etc etc..
C'mon, let us not make heroes (or heroines) out of nothing. You have stated some of the facts which I reiterate:
1) Shilpa is on BB for the money (and fame) it earns her. 2) She had known what to expect in the show, before moving in. It is creditable that stood up to the crap obscenities thrown at her but what was the choice then ? Leave the show and lose the appearance money ?? She is too smart to do this. So she is accepting abuses for a few dollars (sorry pounds). 3) Racism/bullying in UK: It is nothing new. You will get all types of people in all societies, communities, religions, nations. UKites are no different than Indians, Americans, Chinese, any other entity in this world.
So, lets face it. It is a tough world any where. Being an Indian, I face it every day in the UK, so nothing great that Shilpa chooses to take the barrage of choicest of words smilingly. At the end of the day she earns a pot of gold. Period.
RE:Being Proud about Shilpa ??

There is NOTHING to be PROUD of what Shilpa has done. In fact, I HATE TO TALK ABT THIS CRAP. Why people should respond going all praise for her. Sometime back there was an article on rediff. The author was saying ITS BETTER FOR INDIAN GOVT. TO NOT INTERVENE IN A MATTER LIKE THIS. Now, what made him/her think so? Do we call it fear of the so called, Indian Mentality. When is it that we Indians start living like HUMANS and NOT A COLLECTION OF WEAK MINDS who want some stupid thing or the other of others to BROOD OVER?! Why can't we BETTER TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES rather than BROODING on someone else's problems. Hope our young Indian Generation realise this!! Then, we would also be treated with equal honour and respect. Unless we STOP intervening into other person's life we would be harassed/insulted/bullied or whatever!! Calvinkiran
At best, Shipla's problem has exposed the hypocritical attitude of Indians. We can harass our own countrymen by calling them Madrasis, ghattis, bawas etc etc. But Whites cannot call us names. Thats racism Ohhh! We can ill-treat our Dalit brethren(rural India esp.) but no one must show us any discrmination. HYPOCRITES !!!!!!!!!!!

Well said. We're only too ready to point one finger at others when there's three pointing back at us. Bigotry has become somewhat of a celebration.

I agree - I'm a Brit who cringes at the way Indians speak to their servants and treat hotel staff - like they are dirt. I thought castes had been abolished, but now I know it hasn't happened yet!
Racism exists in various forms. It should not be encouraged or abetted in any form. Besides, Shilpa, even Laxmi Mittal had to figh this racism when his flagship company Mittal Steel recently purchased Arecelor Steel in Europe. The Arecelor Management then used the race card to influence it European shareholders to vote against this merger.
I think, we all should deplore racism. Once you travel, outside India, you get a feel for it.

after all an englishman will always be an englishman. Shilpa just to put an end to the whole episode said that there was nothing racial in remarks that did not mean there was nothing racial. It was utter racial by a racist lady. Shilpa by saying this tried to pacify her supporters and fans. Really sorry to see the remarks.
I think this controversy has hurt UK's image adversely. Asians might be apprehensive now, to go to UK for work or studies. They might consider Noth America as a better option, not that they don't already. UK, was the most favoured European destination for Indians, if other European countries are smart enough to capitalize on this controversy, they can benefit from this. The bottom line is, this controversy is bad for an already fragile British economy. - Abhijeet Nandy, Montreal,Canada
