Shilpa is Great
by bijender sharma on Jan 22, 2007 06:53 PM  | Hide replies

Something escapes me ever since I started reading about the whole affair...why did Shilpa agree to take part in this reportedly unpopular show featuring C-list personalities???

- Is it for the viewing pleasure of the British Indians?
- How can doing a show on a British channel enhance her fortunes as a Bollywood star?
- Is it for the bucks that she did the show (seems increasingly plausible)

Hi Bij...
in regards to ur question, initially even though i felt quite surprised seeing her in BB,among a list of C grade celebs,i guess i should say now,she did the right thing being there. It's not just a matter of 3 crores that she got for the show, but the huge amt. of publicity that she has received has made her more famous...we won't be surprised to see her some brit film /tv shows, because everybody knows her here-and she has a huge no. of supporters too! her career here, and back in india is going to rock!
wat say.

at last an article which seemed to exactly reverberate my feelings . this was in stark contrast to the one penned by arun krishnan to which too i had reacted-though in disdain. yes, i ad mire what the author has written and the way shilpa handled the whole thing.i was at pains to understand as to why shilpa should have moved out all because she was racilly hounded. well doesnt that smack of cowardice? i am glad that jade fianlly got evicted and got a taste of her own medicine. i am sure she must be ashamed of the monster that she is.shilpa's reputation has only gone up several notches higher.i am gald that an indian has made her mark albeit thorugh an ordinary tv show, but look at the adjectives that the uk and world press used for shilpa-"spohisticated",classy, intelligent and stylish.it was apparent that the likes of jade goody couldnt hold water. great going shilpa, you were always a great one.

Shilpa - A Mahatma Gandhi once again on Britain
by Sunny Joseph on Jan 22, 2007 06:33 PM

So it's time for Shilpa to do what Mahatma Gandhi did pre-independence !! No wonder why Indians hated British. Racism should not exist at all. We all live on Earth, Brits are not in Mars. We should be proud of Shilpa waging a battle alone.

Racism in UK
by Mirgandra agarwal on Jan 22, 2007 06:26 PM

Every first time Asian arrival in this country may not face Racsim of some kind like Shilpa but those asians who live and work in this country have become thick skinned listening such language day and night by their employers or public at large even in jokes and in friendly fashion. This is the life of Asians in Europe. The old psyche of ruling the world has not disappeared unless China and India become the stroner and powerful countries like Europe and America

Shilpa in CBB-Proud to be an Indian
by meghna banerji on Jan 22, 2007 06:10 PM

Hi all,

I am regularly watching the show in UK and can assure all that Shilpa had been a revelation and a delight to watch. She may not have been very successfull in Bollywood but at least now we know her..I condemn those who keep saying she is an actress and hence she is acting and playing games..In a house like that and people like that no one can keep on the acting coat like that. Closed in a house with no info and living with complete strangers..
I feel we indians are really turning our to be hypocrites and framing viewes entirely on what they are hearing and not on their own intelligence.
I also feel that even if she is getting paid then why not..she wanted to take on a challange and she did it with grace and dignity..money is always a reassurance.
the three girls Jade, Danielle & Jo just did not want to open up and broaden their views regarding her..from day one they started back biting and it even grew more with Jade coming in.

I started watching CBB to the interest that Shilpa is part of it and how would she portray herself at international standards. The way she showcased Indianess and her unchallenged beauty and intellect is of no match. Hats off to you Shilpa for great work. You have not only done justice to your character but to the debate which has shaken the dirty world that still exists in 21st century. Very nice articly Dalbir.

Worse controversy ever
by Subramanian Padmanaban on Jan 22, 2007 06:09 PM  | Hide replies

What a worse type of controversy. One actress being bullied with racist remarks, people and government support her by protesting to the brit govt and next day shilpa takes back her accusations just to smere mud on all those who supported her and off-course the Indian government that supported her. How can this be justified as a dignified act. I consider this as nonsense and the author and other fellow Indians can put their energy in some constructive and profitable activities

Who doesnt work for money? Do u work for charity? I fail to understand just that shes been paid to do the show, how does it justify the cruel behavior against her? That means the soldiers who loose their lives for country dont deserve any respect as they were PAID to do so. How appalling!!

I am so disgusted by the Indians in India's views on Shilpa Shetty. They seem to be so jealous that she is earning the money.Get over it,and appreciate Shilpa for being herself. If u dont know much then find out what this is all about and how Shilpa rose over it.And I am going to stand her side on every blog that is jealous of her,and it is alway the Indians in India, they r not seeing the bigger picture at all.Show some appreciation to what she has done.

Ok, Ok, I was just thinking aloud. Accept the fact that we all work for money. Partaking in the show was purely a professional decision for her. My thought was that I did not understand why a person of her stature decided to join the other less worthy people to be locked up in a room in this badly rated show. Does the best in our celebsphere correspond to the worst in the Brit or American counterpart?

As it's a professional choice, this is a wider question of abuse and harrassment in the workplace, but one needs to take into account that the 'nature of work' in this case unfortunately aims to bring out the worst in the participants. So there....

So what if she was there for the sake of money! Aren't the majority of Keralites (like yourself) themselves migrants, especially to the middle-east where they are subjected to even more degradation, for their livelihood? That doesn't mean one should be subjected to abuse. She was there doing something totally honest, and not breaking the law in order to earn money. I can imagine an immigrant who is involved in illegal and unlawful activities in another country being treated badly, but when tourists, artists, legitimate economic migrants are treated badly, it calls for some counter measures. So get over that money-fixation that most Indians in India seem to exhibit - the ridiculous notion that she is earning lots of money and therefore deserves to be kicked around! By your logic then, the majority of Indians, especially those working in MNCs and IT industry in India, that earn a fat pay desrve be kicked around.
