Rang De heads to the Oscars!
by Raja Mohan on Oct 03, 2006 04:01 PM

I think this is the optimum choice and is more appropriate especially when I lasttime heard about Paheli being considered for an Oscar nomination.
RDB is a good movie that inspired many of us. However one thing I didnt like in the storyline is showing a foreigner inspiring our youth. I didnt understand why and with what intention the story was built that way.

jury failed me.....
by Wynad on Sep 29, 2006 11:38 PM

im so hopelessly sad and devastated at RDBs selection for oscars.
What message are we giving to the world by seding RDB???
(1)that we are a ´set of narrow minded people trying to OVER simplify our problems by targetting an individual for the problems in the system and society
(2) that we are a set of violent people looking to even kill our parents at the slightest provocation
(3) that our humour is crassy ..
(4) and we dont have good script writers

shocked .. saddened

RDB to Oscars --- a fine one.
by praveen on Sep 28, 2006 10:24 PM

Hi all,
Its good to know that RDB is chosen as India's entry to Oscar. Many criticize this selection, but RDB deserves the priority for Oscar entry. The film depicts a strong and valid point about the prevailing monster--Corruption in our country that greatly had devastatted many people's lives. The director very talently and interestingly handled the plot of freq-out youngsters forming as a responsible and brave Indian citizens.RDB didn't convey the message of violence to youngsters instead it asks them to be ready to take brave and genuine action against Corruption. The Americans and other fellow countrymens will accept the core point of RDB, after the accident of the spacecraft send by NASA in which Kalpana Chawla was present, as the accident was mainly due to the poor manifestation and administrative works of the NASA management people. Sure RDB will make an impact at OSCARS.

rang de basanti's entry into oscars
by rohan on Sep 27, 2006 03:25 PM

This is, probably, the first time that the oscar committee has selected a film worth competing for the oscars. This is a welcome change from the less-sensible entry of yash chopra-karan johar-shah rukh khan starrers for a few years now.

Difficult but good choice
by Lalita.S on Sep 27, 2006 10:56 AM

This year the selection jury has made a difficult decision.RDB was a good choice since it aroused so many feelings in viewers. The 1st half rocks while the 2nd is tense and thought provoking. The last quarter was messy and uneasy, not a neatly sewn-up ending [with a feel good air like most movies].But life is like that--an ordinary situation can go out of hand.Look at how a protest against a professor resulted in his death.I'm sure Prof.Sabharwal's death was not the ultimate intention of the protesters.Similarly the impulsive hasty killing, decision to own up,the horrible final shoot-out,all these things that happen in Rang De gave the film an edgy realistic feel.Lage Raho was of course a more feel good affair, but RDB scores in so many ways-the scene where Aslam confronts his hidebound Muslim family actually found resonance with some African-Americans.I hope the Oscar jury gives this intelligent film a fair chance. And all those who feel that this fim's selection is a result of some imagined pro-congress bias,I feel they are totally wrong and biased in their own way.Last year even SRK's Paheli was treated with the same accusation. It's petty to say such things.

RDB is a masterpiece... Movies can really move nations!!
by Imran Shamsi on Sep 26, 2006 06:58 PM

Rang De Basanti had to be India's entry for the Oscars... No doubt tht Lage raho Munnabhai is a classic but RDB hits you hard...it makes u realize all that u havent done for your country... and also that we can make a difference... ppl say tht the message tht it gives contradicts non-violence... but the truth is... RDB asserts the importance of individuality and power of unity at the same time... Films like these are made once in a lifetime... It has inspired the youth of India n it reflects in their thoughts and actions lately.... If it doesnt win the Oscar then i dont think any film made by Indians ever will!!!
