Munnabhai should have been the only choice
by Aditya Datar on Sep 26, 2006 04:05 AM

The year when there is a movie called Lage Raho Munnabhai , we do not even need to have a second thought for any other movies. By the way if the movie needs to fulfill the following 3 criteria then Rang de Basanti is the correct choice.

1. Needs to show India in the poorest and the dimmest of light.
2. Pleases the liberal , leftist , socialist , secular , socialite intellectuals.
3. Basically discourages anyone from thinking positively and encourages pessimism.

Well Rang de Basanti passes all this tests with flying colors.

Rang De Basanthi compared to Lage Raho
by Chadnu on Sep 26, 2006 03:52 AM

RangDe basanthi gives wrong message to youth. Killing your father and minister without law and others is bad message. RB uses watchers emotions.

Comming to LRMB . it has got nice message and it shows how one gunda is changed by attracting towards gandhizm. It is nice message and it would have made oscar pannel to think twise.

I suspect some khans or Cong gov tacktics are applied here for select RB

RDB -ridiculous choice
by Kanduri on Sep 26, 2006 03:23 AM

Enough of this discrimination.A popular movie not necessarily a open chioce for Oscars. It is quite unfortunate that judges ignore the big south indian film industry and given a green signal to a movie which was just a old medicine in new bottle.(RDB is more or less just the story of Bhagat Singh).

Rang de - Bad movie, bad acting, great music
by Raj on Sep 26, 2006 03:04 AM

Rang de is a bad copy of Yuva. Audio CD is worth it, that's it. I am not sure why people regard this as a 'good' movie, leave alone an oscar-entry. Shame on the whole country.

Cheers for RDB

Well!!!! This is one of the most decent decisions made for the oscar entries in the past few years (ofcourse after Lagaan).
Hope that India wins Oscar for this great and though provoking movie. I wish that Bhagat Singh and allies get their shares of honour worldwide.
All the Best RDB.

RDB is Official Entry
by Shivraj Raghav on Sep 26, 2006 02:38 AM

With complete due credit to RDB --I believe for the Oscar judges to understand a movie and to get the international appeal, Lage Raho ....would have been a better choice. It stars the Mahatma, the superstar about whom books are written worldwide and whose principles are still valued in every corner of the world.Plus the movie has got every thing that represents Indian cinema.Apart from that, there are other messages that are conveyed in a very jovial manner which is understood by almost everybody.I was part of the jury then,I would have surely backed Lage rahi...without taking any credits from RDB once again.

It is absolutly the right choice. The closest would have been Omkara. All the other (Hindi) movies are purely purely commercial with lot of masaaaaaaaalaaaaa in it. No way it any of them could have won the oscars. RDB has a very bright chance for winning the Oscar. All the best to the team.

Regards

Roy
