Banning the movie is a ridiculous idea. the book has been out for a while so what difference can the movie make. in any case it is up to each person to judge what is right what is wrong- the government or any faculty cannot decide that for everyone. banning is an action which shows lack of tolerance and in a country like india tolerance is one of the biggest virtues. let people judge intelligently by actually knowing the facts rather than having someone tell them that something is wrong.

should be banned

Gone through the comments on this blog. some people are arguing that it is not banned in christian dominated countries, the reason is there is hardly any practising christians there. They hardly go to church or follow christianity. If alcohol is banned even for a single day, these same christians would go on rampage and disrupt the whole country. I am not disregarding chrisitians, i am making a point that the European country people are not passionate about religion as we Asians are.

If an issue has been raised that Da Vinci Code is against Jesus then surely it has to be banned. Da Vinci Code should be banned. It should not be released in India.

The Problem lies with the Chuch
by Raja Krishnan on May 20, 2006 11:41 AM  | Hide replies

Da Vinci Code may contain some fiction. But it is based on documents found and confirmed authentic. The problem with christians is that they are cannot accept truth other than what is written in bible.

Christian chuch has been always a disruptive institution. They have been suppressing the truth for the last 2000 years.

About Solar system - when Galelio said Earth was round & rotated around Sun which was contrary to what is said in Bible. And the Pope threated Galelio with Death for suggesting that the Earth rotated around the sun. The truth is - Pope & Bible are wrong. The attitude is like that of a frog in a well. It has never experienced the vastness of an ocean. Same with the vastness of universe - it is beyond the comprehension of Bible and catholic church.

Pope John Paul II admitted this was wrong and appologised officially for
the Roman Catholic Church sometime in the late 80's or 90's.

Will they accept the Pope John Paul I (Albino Luciani) was murdered? The investigative book by David Yallop on this subject - In God's Name - is banned by Vatican. Vatican still protects the murderers.

Banning is not a solution. Truth cannot be suppressed.

Truth cannot be suppressed...You are right in saying that. Have you thought about how many (including kings, emperors, governments, religious institutions) have tried to suppress the bible. But it had still come out victorious. Yes Truth cannot be suppressed.

Da Vinci Code
by Vijay Medi on May 20, 2006 11:36 AM  | Hide replies

A little perspective will help here. If there is a book/movie out there that refutes the core beliefs of hinduism/Islam, I can guarantee that there will be more uproar and Iam sure the book or movie will be banned. Da Vinci Code sets out to refute albeit untruthfully, the core beliefs of christianity. In our culture where media is so biased, the only way one can voice their opinions is by protesting. That is just the way of life in our country. SO I understand why these protests are happening.
At the same time I personally do not condone these protests. I think we need to open up other avenues where people can make their voices felt.
Iam not one bit concerned about Da Vinci Code putting a lid to the legacy of christianity.
My personal belief is that christianity and the bible have come under the sword numerous time throughout the history and have emerged unscathed everytime. In fact it has spread even more when persecuted. Bible has a strange way of overcoming its pall bearers!!
