India can have the bullet train in the near future
by Albaifca on Nov 19, 2010 04:04 PM

I saw many Indians complaining about your own country when comparing with China,as China has achieved many things while India has not.Actually we complain about our country too in China just as you guys do.We have many problems too,and just about 10 years ago, there're many Chinese who worship things foreign and fawn on foreign countries like US or European countries. However the situation began to change through our hard work and exploration year by year. The Indian people are also smart Asian people and should have confidence on your great motherland,I'm sure India will get better and better!

It is difficult but very much Possible

It can certainly be there if there is a political will. In terms of technology, Indians are second to no one. Look at Delhi Metro for example. The moment u walk into a metro station u feel as if you are not in India anymore, everything is so clean and well organised.

Lets find another Sridharan (he's the one responsible for making Delhi Metro what it is), If left to politicians we will end up with anohter scam.

The income of the average income of a middle class Indian has increase significantly, 5 years ago the 2nd AC coaches used to go almost empty. Today its difficult to find a seat.

If tickets are reasonably priced, lets say 4000/- for Delhi to Mumbai.....there will be many travellers queing up.

Indeed a good question friend. Today the political will seems to be directed only towards get rich quick schemes (refer 2G).

Hopefully, in the near future the entire political class will ahve a change of heart or better still the entire political class will be changed.

That's the day everything will fall in place and most probably we'll see it in our life time.

Fastest Trains
by Vijayakumar MP on Nov 19, 2010 04:00 PM  | Hide replies

It will be a failure in India. Moreover we dont deserve these type of trains. Look at some of the prestigious express trains. They are just junk fit only for animals. Try travelling in Lalbagh, Brindavan and Krishna Express trains and you will know how filthy and unruly the passengers behave. There is no security at all - any unauthorised vendor or passenger can enter any reserved compartment. Let us first streamline our railway services before dreaming of high speed trains. One last bit of information - Delhi Metro spends lakhs of rupees to clear the mess created by its users.

I forgot to add this interesting information. India has the longest open toilet in the world - it is the railway line.

Growth should be even and inclusive....
by Gaurav on Nov 19, 2010 04:00 PM

If China can then why can't India......this is what our mindset is....but plz stop comparing India with China on every front because India is a completely different country when it comes to Poverty, Healthcare, Education and many other important social sectors. In a race to match china, we loose our focus and much is being spent for the benefit of upper class. Even if we get Bullet trains in India, can u imagine any farmer which is under huge debt will get any better. There are so many paradoxes which need Government attention. I also want India to progress but i don't want poor to be left to die because in the end we all are Human Beings. Jai Hind

THIS WILL TAKE ANOTHER 50 YEARS. BETTER NOT TO DREAM. BEST THING IS HAVE A GOOD SAVING, AND GO ABROAD ENJOY THESE RIDES AND RELAX. THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE IN INDIA. DO YOU KNOW THE LOCAL TRAINS IN MUMBAI (EXCEPT THE SIEMENS ONE) ALL ARE MORE THAN 30 YEARS OLD RAKES

Would you care to quote the source of this information? (90% passengers of Mumbai Suburban Railway travel without ticket)
My personal experience on Sundays and Holidays is that in spite of huge queues (that take 20 to 30 Min.) people wait to purchase their ticket.

What we need...
by Tom Dick on Nov 19, 2010 03:04 PM  | Hide replies

What we need is clean, less crowded, frequent trains that can carry as many as possible without delay and without accidents. That is the only practical thing possible in India where trains are considered a mass traport vehicle at reasonable price.

POSSIBLE ONLY IF WE HAVE METROS. BUT THAT TOO ONLY IF IT IS OVER THE GROUND LEVEL ( I MEAN ELEVATED). BUT AGAIN, YOU CANNOT TRUST THE SAME, AS THE BRIDGE MAY FALL DOWN ALL OF A SUDDEN. SO FORGET ABOUT ALL THIS.

Question
by prem k on Nov 19, 2010 02:32 PM

In one of the slides, it is said that if 350 kmph max speed train, as in China, plies between Mumbai and Delhi, the distance will be covered in 4 hours. It is only a half-truth, at best. The fact remains that even though Rajdhani plies at a max speed that is about half of this speed (at 160 kmph), the distance between Delhi and Mumbai can never be completed in 8-9 hours. There are many reasons including that the trains cannot operate at very high speeds in several urban zones that it passes by. And more importantly, every politician worth his salt wants a halt for the "fastest" train at his constituency, thus making the train much slower.

In a country like India, this proposal can end up as absolutely useless. Even European countries that theoretically proved the maglev concept have implemented very few lines with the technology because of the extremely high costs.
