Chinese Scientists
by ragavendran krrao on Jan 24, 2010 09:50 PM  | Hide replies

The power of a country depends both on its economy and its strength which inevitably depends upon the quality of scientists it has.

History has never seen a collection of scientists as those involved in the Manhattan project (first atomic bomb project) and the Solvay conference scientists who created new science.

Chinese physicists are neither Oppenheimers nor Von Brauns or Goddards, and there there is no limit to discoveries to be made in science.

I dont know about the economy, however speaking on the scientific basis China can never rule the world, this is a mere stupidity.

the world is the defeat and destroy CHina in a nuclear war. Unless it does that, the West should be content to playing third fiddle to China soon.

In that event, the biggest sufferer from nuclear radiation after China would be India. One need not be too profound to know that !

you can't ignore China. You have to deal with it. IT won't go away.

For India, it means flexing its muscle - not at the borders but with sound economic policies - that would be enough to give china sleepless nights...

ye- but they have either saturated (japan) or they are too small make any difference..

BTW, one more point who is more scared? China or India of each other?

Its China of India - because till now India was just another country fighting over Kashmir..Today we don't even have to compare ourselves with Pakistan...India is on the bus and China is wary sharing the same..

World wants cheap stuff - where they buy from makes no difference

China with over $2trillion forex can maintain stable exchange while in india little funds come in & rupee appreictaes making exports expensive -

Dont forget in 1981 china exchange was around D1.50 - then in Jan 94
they devalued from 5.81 to 8.72
to boost exports

China is moving away from exports oriented economy after recent global financial meltdown.

They wouldnt want to become like Latin america/East asian basket cases in previous crisis that literally put them in ditch..

All the arguments here are simply arguments. Take the decision, and see how things change. It does not have to be an overnight declaration. Start phasing out to an extent that 50% of
Chinese exports are reduced. Then all
their mesmerising economic growth will be a thing of the past.

Can you explain if China is so dependent on export why its GDP growth didnt take major hit when other economies collapsed? I am not saying they are not dependent on exports..but they know they cant rely it for long..because if you dont have buyers what are you gonna do,,see russia (all about natural gas and nothing..)

if we compare liberty and life of labour in china, china is far behind us. you can compare china with bangla desh, the labour in china are labours similar to which we find in hawrah ,kolkotta etc. conditions of labour in these regions is not good they are not paid well ,so they give material at low cost .

China's labour laws and their implementation are not exactly worthy of emulation, agreed.

However, compared to the status of labour in much of India (except perhaps in the state of Kerala), China comes across as heaven for workers !!

superpower - refrigerators would start lasting a day or two..and yea there new biggest export "BUSes" would probably go for 10m before crmbling down.

China is not that bad - at least its centralized economy moves faster than ours where politicians are busy filling their own pockets..

but no china can never become superpower - It doesnt have image to sustain no matter what it does to improve..

But China will improve the quality of its products, while India's products don't even exist, except for bullock carts, khadi, and gobar gas. So China and India are not even in the same league.

Agree. India is not in the same league as China but China lacks that "basic" ingredient to become superpower (give or take 50-100 yrs). With India its possible...

This World is all democractic..so commies can't dream of ruling it..

democracy alone can't do it. Unless India produces something apart from Khadi, gobar gas, and bullock carts, it will stay a very backward nation.

You know why china has double digit growth - its just the basic economics - it needs that growth to sustain its population. So, things just start happening - eletronics, cars, food, healthcare..

Its the same thing here.. no one is doing anything but demand is increasing and to feed this we need businesses..

But India now is more than Khadi, Gobar etc...biotech, pharma, IT, small tools - are rising sectors..

But for near moderate term, this should be ok
