I read an article the other day, predicating that India will Surpass China in 2012, and U.S. in 2020. All women over the world will compete to marry Indian man. I am actually waiting the day to come.

Being aggressive is different from being an aggressor! Being aggressive to manage your country is to strive for the best, have goals to shoot for, and BE REALISTIC! India's problem is talk too much, and done very little.

i think china is not a good metric to compare yourself with. china/ dubai were built on the ashes of its citizens. too much sacrifice has been done on the way to progress. china has always been known for that - cruelty to its own people. the great wall was literally built with human labour and their lives. the cost attached is too insignificant for the rulers, in comparison to the magnificent edifice they think is great.

Dont know why Dani Rodrik wrote this article and mentioned about the UK author who has hallucinated about China. China can never become a world power. There will be unrest inside China and the PR Army will revolt against the system, which will ultimately lead to the downfall of China. Communism as a philosophy is long dead and by clinging to it, China as a country will be shattered to pieces, just like Russia did.

You really need to update your rusty brain and learn the new term of "social capitalism", best demonstrated by Singapore. China's commercial activities are so free and flexible, and that's why she is a force that US will have to take note. US will only use India as a "guard dog" to contain China. India is a country with no backbone, after 200 years of being a slave of colonial master, you develop a false sense of superiority (only you people believe the lies you are dreaming being superpower)....India was, has been and continue to be a joke and a sad story.

india is slow, but it does not have cancer villages, or a police state. india may have a lot of issues with governance, but is all of it on steroids!

The world has changed already! US is still a dominant power but for crucial world matters, Obama has to take China into account. It is no more UN, Russia, Europe!
He who pays the piper calls the tune! China has $2.4 trillion forex reserves, enough to buy what they want. To top it, they are a command economy, top down. Obama has to get decisions okayed by House, Senate etc. We have our own democrazy, pulling each other down to mediocrity! China puts up mega projects, we stall after the hypes! What is better, is according to our psyches. Do we want a system that means business or something that we suffer. Just like Haiti disaster, we have to start somewhere, but where! Most criticise but seem to want status quo of democrazy! No deal!
Something has to give! The world is in awe of China! They get their way ultimately! Take Olympics, all were present & they made it the best ever! Next year, World Expo, another show-piece with others singing praise, ultimately! They show money power & results! Russia's Far East, Vladivostock is practically leased out to China to exploit the resources & with their labour!
Success breeds success, in this material world! No virtue in being poor, though we can mourn a person who led us to a brick wall like we did a couple of days ago! Otherwise, people will be at each other's throats like in two of our neighbours! The world is exciting & does not matter who makes the cut - we all can enjoy the fruits, privided we want to!

You are a person with clear mind and understanding. Democracy has many forms. China's path is to develop economy first, then slowly open up to democracy. This is the right path for a large population country (just like India). People need to take care of their very basic human needs (that's human rights!) first before they can spare the time to vote.

Correct!In most developing countries,Democracy mean useless quarrels with nothing to be done.Look back the last decades,which developing country that exercised democracy has become developed countries?No more than 2.See Singapore and Cuba and even China.The did a great job than what most other so called democratic countries did.Eliminate corruption,privation first and set up the democracy.It's not a bad way for the countries like India and China.

you people have put in the valid points. I agree with you 100%. over the span of 30 years.. I have lived in all the three countries india, china & singapore. I have experienced all the three stages.. being utterly imaginative and boastful of values(India), Actually working hard towards that imagination (China) and finally living out that imagination (Singapore). I would ignore guys like wizardo... they are nothing but ignorant indian citizens who are responsible for the mess in India.
