For vote bank, 27% students are being increased in all IIMs/IITs without increasing faculties strenght by 1%. So, definitely it will hamper the research output in all these institutes. See the current infrastructute in all old IIMs/IITs. They are not able to handle this extra 27% students...

Again for vote bank, we have more 8 IITs and 7 IIMs. There are no faculties and local faculties are teaching in these world class institutes !!! G8 UPA..G8 Vote bank politics in Education !!!

Salaries for IIT faculty
by manoranjan ghosh on Sep 24, 2009 08:15 PM  | Hide replies

My first suggesstion to the agitating faculties are to resign from the job and find other suitable job. Many well qualified people are there who deserve a job in institute with better infrastructures like IIT. I wounder how IIT Faculties are comparing their salaries with the company professionals. How much pressure one faculty takes for his job? They have not tested the situation when their salary for one month did not come to their account. One company professional always afraid of their job and has to produce (earning profit) in any circumstances to save their job. In contrast one Prof. in IIT takes only two three classes in a week. This is their only assigned job. The situation of research in IIT is very bad. Since providing degree is the only target, research is always neglected which results substandard work. IF you evaluate IIT in terms of developement of new technologies and publication of quality papers in high impact journal then it is lagging behind many institutes of India. It is true that IIT is not the firsst choice for high quality research student. The next thing which saves IIT is the B.Tech. I personally believe that the IIT is transfering their high quality B.Tech student to a mediocar level. Because most of the IIT B.Tech joins companies where chances of original research work is very less. What is most fatal is that many of them are interested in CAT (for doing MBA) while they could develope new technologies for India in which we are lagging behind.

why high quality researchers will come to IITs ??? one has to take 7 to 10 hours classes per week in IITs because the same faculty strenght has to teach 300 % increased student strength. Go to IISc, IISER and teach less and do more research.

Try to have your real Ph.D degree not this degree by your Chain !!!!
The choice of CAT depends on B.tech students...if he wants money...But remeber all good B.Tech students perfer Ph.D. See the statistics of passout B.tech students from IITs. Now, the students standard in medicore as the stranght has been increased in past 10 years starting from MM. Joshi, HRD minister regime. The students standards are also poor as intake has been increased by almost 200%. So, do not expect too much research output from them.

Completely irrational analysis. You don't seem to have a clue on what research is. Publication record of all IITs are available on net and some of the department exceed their counterparts in many top US universities as well.

Murali M. Joshi created the central fund such that all IIT projects were supposed to go through it and all donation sud go there. The distribution of this fund depends on Govt. Naturally, IIT lost most of its alumni funds in this way !!!

All the major companies were built with a great idea (at least in software) by college students / drop outs with near zero funding (Microsoft, Google, Oracle to name a few)

If IIT profs are so good (as they are made out to be) then they should have built great companies and have become financially independent. They definitely have more funding and resources than the people who built these great companies plus their is freedom to do consultancy.

Understand the point before commenting. These people NEVER completed their education and managed to build great companies. IIT profs definitely have more resources / time than these people. Just follow one principle, if you are good and have freedom, you dont have to beg.

BTW, what I do for living is absolutely rubbish question and has nothing to do with the topic being discussed.

Farm loan waiver
by lax yopr on Sep 24, 2009 08:10 PM

When the govt can waive off Rs.60,000 CRORES for farmers, who alrdy dont pay any Taxes, get subsidized fertilizers, free electricity etc, then why not better salaries to IIT professors.

Farm loan waiver does not add a cent to our economy, where as these prof are mentoring our future.

Well, my advice to the profs is that they shouldn't forget they are in India.
It's not that great injustice is being done to these profs. By going on hunger strike they are heading towards confrontation. Very extreme measures for not so grave an issue.
