Professional HR statement
by siva kumar on Sep 24, 2009 07:55 PM

A HR always at the opposing direction to a hike in the salaries of their employees. This happens all over organsations.

But before being a HR professional Kapil needs to value these high graded people.

To maintain the standards of IIT's and IIM's which is well recognised around the world its very important to respond promptly to people involved and their needs.

I dont see anything wrong with the faculties seeking for a better salary, When a MBA graduate or a Engineering graduate is able to make 10 times as much money as the IIT professors.

It is sad to see this government which stresses on improvement(just by news statements) as not shown that interest in R & D which has and have been proving to be the major force of the developed european nations.

When you are not able to afford world class salaries to these high graded people in the only world class institution in the country please stop throwing news statements of making India a superpower.

And if this continues to happen India will be a slave in the hands of the European superpowers who are throwing billions of dollars into R & D.

need and knowledge
by Raghavendra Bhat on Sep 24, 2009 07:49 PM  | Hide replies

There are extremely good teachers with long tenures of experience. Instead of an M. Tech Ph.D, the Govt. should think of recruiting M. Sc equivalent experience in teaching. Kapil Sibal has articulated the issue of experience in the right perspective, more teachers with an attitude for teaching need be recruited instead of taking in doctorate holders who are found to be losers at teaching. Good, forwarding looking moves have been put in place by Kapil Sibal. In order to make India a knowledge society, our teachers have to put in sacrifice before self-interest, need to volunteer more of their time and improve work conditions by participation. Should IIT teachers get labeled as 'crib mouths'?

Extremely poor and backward thoughts. Teaching and Research needs to go hand in hand. A person who does not keep abreast with the latest technological trends only ends up teaching age-old fifties stuff. Many teachers donot have even B category journal or conference publications!!!

I dont understa'nd what would one acheive by recruiting MSC,s as menion'd. These are professional colleges and students dont need to be spoo,n fed. But they need to get exposure in doing researc'h
under able professors and collaborating with these profs in their researc'h work.

IIT questions
by jacksparrow on Sep 24, 2009 07:47 PM  | Hide replies

These are some points of IIT,
1.students comming out from IIT should work in India particularly an Underdeveloped state for 4 years,
2.IIT faculties should be selected based on test like IIT-JEE with hardness 10 times more than this,
3.IIT facuties salary should be related to their invention and discoveries ,
...

I agree. IF faculties salary are related to their invention, more than 90% will drop out.

Give world class salaries to all
by Haramohan Roy on Sep 24, 2009 07:47 PM  | Hide replies

If the IIT teachers are well-qualified, others may not be less qualified too!

A great numbers of teachers and professors across the country are very able and well-qualified - for example the doctorates in literature, or the doctorates in pure science teaching and/or guiding research scholars. So, why should they also not get the world class salary?

Every teacher should get paid high. Other teachers should also fight back just as the IIT teachers are fighting back.

what financial independence?
by Bolo India on Sep 24, 2009 07:43 PM  | Hide replies

Is Sibal willing to let IIT decide on fees they can charge on student before commenting that IIT should become financially independent to give salaries to profs...its stupid..IITs have quality to command higher fees...they are not doing it because they are govt institutions...thus they cannot be financial independent!

Explaining why only scientists deserve pay hike (to Haramohan R)
by BA ABC on Sep 24, 2009 07:43 PM  | Hide replies

Mr. Roy,
The reason I ignored your first question about "why only scientists, why not rest of the population" ... is because I thought you didnt really mean it. Who can ask such a silly question?

Why only scientists? Because they are more intelligent, more qualified than most others and capable of producing things that can give much more return to the country than the labour of the average Indian.

This is like asking. Why should only the top 3 students in the class get a prize? Why not the average student?

BA ABC,

You seem to belong to that class of short-sighted people who think that only the scientists are best students of the nation! You may not know that there are a great number of students who willingly chose humanities, law or commerce even though they secured high enough grades to go for a career in science!

Most science students are typically like you! They choose to ignore the importance of Shakespeares or Da Vincis in the history of human civilisation!!

I agree with both of you. So we should say "excellence should be rewarded". India very badly needs good humanities faculty like the caliber of IIT and IIM. But I am glad these days brilliant youngsters are opting for Law and journalism and political science. They are comin out of the "IIT , Engineering and software" mode.

So, isn't it strange that the IIT teachers choose to ignore the others and concentrate on their own demand only?

Link Sibal's salaries, perks to....
by Hot on Sep 24, 2009 07:40 PM

This Sibal thinks himself to be a very highly knowledgeable person. He gives useless arguments in TV channels and is always arrogant(Badbola). Like Ramdoss tried to destroy AIIMS,this fellow is trying to destroy IITs. If he links higher salaries of IIT professors to Nobel prize, then his own salary and perks should be linked to school dropouts. A single dropout from any school, he should be kicked out or his salaries should be stopped.
