GLOBAL CURRENCY
by sanjana priya on May 15, 2009 08:00 PM  | Hide replies

WHY ARE WE RETAINING $ EVEN AFTER GLOBALISATION AS OUR CORE CURRENCY? HAVE ONE CURRENCY ACROSS THE GLOBE. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN? RICH WOULD BECOME POORER AND POOR WOULD BECOME RICHER AND THE EQUATIONS WOULD BALANCE

You don't understand that the United States gives over 8 Billion dollars to India each year as a gift. I am American and all we ever hear is how bad we are here. If it wasn't for the United States most of the world would be below 3rd world status. THere were a lot of Satyam employees here. They all seem to like it here. If you don't like us why do you come here. Stay home and try to make your dirt hole of a country a better place.

What can the United States take from India? What magazines can I read?...."Taliban Daily"...."Terorist Weekly"....Its probably some rag printed in India that continues to tell how bad us Americans are. If you don't like us stay out of the United States. WE don't want any of you here complaining about how bad of a place this is while you are living here. Go cry and whine to someone that cares what any of you have to say. We are sending all of your Satyam people back home because they are causing more problems here than they are worth. I work at a company that employed about 100 Satyam engineers. We couldn't get rid of them fast enough. We are still working on fixing all of the problems they caused.
And for any of you that "PITY" Obama you can have him. He caters to the likes of you people that harbor and train terrorist. We don't want him.
So us Americans are brainless. Try closing your borders and cut all ties with us. Your economy would collapse and Indian would be taken over by what ever dirtbag country decided they wanted to live there. This whole world revolves around what you can sell to the United States. We should close our borders and isolate ourselves from the rest of the world. Lets see who survives then.
We Americans want to live in peace. We have been the world police force since the early 1900's. We are tired of it but we were given that job and continue to do it. We would even bail your country out if Pakistan decided to wipe you from the earth.

Please stop speculative news
by Guest on May 15, 2009 07:59 PM

Hi..
Seems u r chasing ET to publish speculative news especially targetting Satyam.. Well, 12k-14k is a very big number and it comes around 30% of the total strength of the company.. If u r confident of the authenticity of this news, do publish the name and email id of the correspondent... Otherwise specualte more and say Satyam is going to layoff 40,000 employees.. y only 12- 14,0000..?

This is just the beginning of layoffs. Now that the elections are over you will see more layoffs happening. IT guys, beware...layoffs can happen to you also. Non IT guys, beware...layoffs will happen after the IT guys are laid off, for the effect of IT layoffs will start trickling down in the economy gradually. Actual inflation is going to come down further and become deflation. Demand for goods and services will come down drastically and there will be job losses everywhere. God save us.

I am going to agree with you. IT companies exploit their staff. They don't hesitate to make their employees routinely work for more than 8 hours a day. Most IT companies don't care about health of their employees.

I don't agree with this. How many Coffee Planters are investing their income in any other sectors? How many Rubbber Planters are investing in other sectors? It's individual capacity to earn. In fact look at the job opportunities that Narayanamurthy, Premji, Raju created.

NRN and Premji's business is IT and they have done well in what they chose. WHy should/would they invest in agriculture. Agriculture is not their business, nor is it their duty to share/spread their wealth. Running a welfare state, making appropriate investments in necessary sectors is the business of the government, not NRN or Premji. If the government wants to share the bounty of the IT sector with agriculture, let it levy more taxes and make the right investments.

Hey, you posted again....

Oh Bhaya...nobody forces you to work at Infy. If you don't like the pay offer scoot somewhere else or open your own pan beedi shop.

It is not his duty to invest in agriculture. That is the job of someone called 'government'.

Why should anyone invest in agriculture. India is no longer an agrarian economy. Look at India's population and the per capita cultivable acres. The land does not increase as much as the population. So the new generation needs to seek opportunities in industry or service sector instead of heading back to 18th century workstyle. You are not going to compete with China and Korea by working up your ox on a 2-acre lot.

Socialism is history. Indira Gandhi died in 1984. This is the 21st century. Fill your head with 21st century ideas.

Better Option
by Sunil Kumar on May 15, 2009 07:50 PM  | Hide replies

I think a better approach would be to retain the strength and share the burden with the whole staff, cutting the salaries by some percentage, say 30% to 40%. This would not only help maintain the bench strength for future projects but also be fulfilling the social responsibility of equal treatment and equal opportunities. This would reduce the chaos in the industries and market to some extent.

Yes that is an option only if ur salary is good enough. In my company our salaries are reduced as much as 50 %. so its like adding fuel to fire as our salaries were already very low.

Bussiness Necessity
by gonuts on May 15, 2009 07:36 PM  | Hide replies

The bussiness is run mainly with a purpose of making profit. In tough times tough decisions have to be taken. Magnanimity comes later

Satyam is a Public limited company where lot of shareholders have stake in the company, so value has to be delivered to them. To get out of the woods some drastic decisions have to be taken. This is one such decision

It is tough and unimaginable pain involved in being laid off. But these are tough times. A bit of pain now, there will be a great gain not too far in the future.

Exactly. u only think of reducing the staff to cut costs but never think of taking a cut in ur sals.In my company almost 70% users took a cut in their sals, some as much as 50% cut.None of the guys from Management got a cut in their sals.Today all big companies are only profit driven and nothin else.If u want to cut costs it should start at Top and then come at the bottom, but it always starts at bottom and never comes up.
