Air India's doom
by Rahul Iyengar on Jul 09, 2009 10:30 AM

Air India's present doom is caused by wrong policies adopted by the Ministry in ordering excessive aircrafts - in order to get massive kickbacks from such orders. It seems top officials are interested in selling AI building and its aircraft to pvt airlines at scrap value - from which good kickbacks will bed received by the concerned Minister as in the case of Centaur Hotels

AI 'S poor show
by rajagopalan nadimuthu on Jul 08, 2009 08:52 PM

The AI's failure is its own making .Though their rates from Chennai-Washington is just half of LUFTAHANS 'rates ,still it is not enjoying adequate patronage for the simple reason as when the employees call for a flash strike.when they are not sure of their journey who will come forward to travel. It requires thorough over hauling to make it more competitive and attractive enterprise. If the option of the Govt is just to wind up the show, with a silent death ,the simple course is just hand over their management to the commies . RN

difficult proposal to bring techons to the board. they are helpless. they are good at private corporates and not in Govt/PSU. These PSUs and govt agencies are/ managed by IAS/political laaders. God bless the Air India.

Air India Losses
by Nitin Bangale on Jul 08, 2009 05:28 PM  | Hide replies

When there is 65% occupancy Flight is supposed to be profitable.I belive most flights of Air India operate more than 65% as manytimes seats are not available.

So one has to really go in deep & find whether the losses are real or somebody have special interest to privatise Air India.

We have to see if profitable routes or offices are given to Private airlines

No use of wasting public money. IT SHOULD BE SHUTDOWN WITHOUT ANY SECOND THOUGHT.

AS PER DATA AVAILABLE TOTAL LOSS OF IA AND AI is more than 50000 crores from the date of nationalisation of AI.

The diagnose of ailment is available, but Minister due to balancing compulsion with staff in govt. sector is deviating with the main issue, not ready to reduce perqs. and salaries of officers/staff, not interested to chuck unwanted and unwilling personnel, not keen to reduce retirement age, ultimately will put burden on tax payers. This is happening in PSUs from the last 60 years.

HIFH TIME GOVT SHOULD CLOSE DOWN AIR INDIA
by ramesh on Jul 08, 2009 11:07 AM  | Hide replies

Air India is suffering due to very high imbalance in PLI structure since 1996 after Capt. D. Mathur, the then MD of Air India had arbitrarily increased hugely (just before his retirement) the salary of Pilots, because he himself and his 2 sons and son-in-law had belonged to this category. After this, immediately agitation started by Air India AMEs and they demanded parity with Pilot’s Salary. These AMEs refused to certify Aircraft in time mentioning technical fault in the aircraft which is totally false, but in the Airport tarmac they are the king and the only person who has the authority to check/certify the aircraft. So, there was nobody at the tarmac to verify these disgruntled AMEs’ bluffing . As a results all flights were delayed/cancelled in Mumbai and Delhi airports causing tremendous harassment to the innocent passengers. This thing continued few months and ultimately Mr. Brijesh Kumar, the then MD of Air India bowed to these disgruntled AMEs and introduced PLI for them to the tune of 1 lakh to 1.5 lakhs per month whereas other officers/staffs were given PLI in the range of 1500 to 15000. The most pathetic fact is that most of these AMEs are not having any Engineering degrees and their academic carrier are very poor in compare to other officers/staffs who are doctors,CAs, MBAa from IIMs and B. tech/BE from IITs and other A Grade Institutes. Since these AMEs had power to create nuisance and can harass passangers by not certifying the aircraft in time
