There are not many people left in this world who can remember travelling by AIR INDIA when it was run by Tatas. The Airline at that time was considered one of the best run airline in the world. For no reason other than privatization by Govt of India. From then on the management of the airline went down causing serious downfall in quality of service on ground & the air inspite of huge increase in the number of personnel per aircraft much above International norm. It has now proved beyond doubt that mere dumping of more money from time to time from tax payers contribution to Govt of India for useful purpose the situation is not likely to improve until the management is changed. Govt of India should now consider seriously giving back the management of Air India to Tatas who ran the airline so well before GOI took over the management. This will save the Airline from going bancrupt & improve the service to compete with best Airlines of the world like Singapore Airline. Incidentally many years ago one of the senior employee of AirIndia was responsible fot setting up the Singapore Airline!
The men to machine ratio of Air India is HIGHEST in the world .These staff members including cabin and flying crew should be paid as per the other industry norms .Paying 2.5 to 5 lakhs to a 12th pass Pilot is not justified .High time , AI should take the things seriously and remove 60% of their staff immediately .How long these non productive flying crew would like to suck the tax payers money .Look at the perks given to these people – free 5 star hotel , flying bonus , productivity bonus ( HA ! ) free pick up and drop ( any 12th pass fit for a peon job never dream of free travel ) free Foreign Exchange and free Passes for entire family any where in the world . How do you think the airline will survive . Remove min. 60% Flying staff and see the difference . GOVT. SHOULD NEVER GIVE ANY FINANCIAL AID .Has Govt. given any financial help to Satyam ?
This entire game is being played by old Hogs in the Company who have been sitting in the Company doing nothing for years but taking FAT salaries. There is nothing wrong with the Airline. For Example: The Amritsar-London-Toronto Route Why have we allowed Airlines like Uzbekistan/Turkmenistan/Akal air etc to operate on this Route.Air-India instead of one flight a day should have 2 flights a day and both will go full,WHY THIS IS NOT DONE.Similarly the route from Amritsar to Singapor vis Bangkok should be undertaken and this will be also very profitable when Thai Airways is having 2 Turnaround flights every day from Bangkok to Delhi.There is a huge Punjabi population in California Why we have NO flight directly from Amritsar Via Bangkok/Hong Kong to either Los Angles or San Franssisco/Vancouver. Why have these sectors been left open for others???????????????????????????
To my knowledge Air India was revamped at least 3 times since 1990.
Good luck Air India.
Will you deny my grand father, a 1970 retiree from Air India, and his grand children the exiting free air tickets around the world during this revamp? I hope not.

Since when you announce publicly that you are going to fire these people that people blah blah.. he is the one who picked them up or at least blessed them - so the first head that should roll is him. what does he know about airlines - what qualification does he have apart from licking pawar .. just because he is a lousy MP and a thug politician and a minister as well, does not entitle him to give lectures - what does he mean when he says that we must "bring capable" people - why didnt he do that - how is he measuring the "capabilities" - these all are rubbish - we miust have a system like US where every minister needs to justify their candidature - we would not have these jokers.
Revamping top brass and partial divestment is not going to solve the present financial crunch / crisis of Air India. There are many other ways and means to reduce the present financial burden of Air India by way of adopting effective cost cutting measures, revamping the entire administrative structure, inducting new methodology for procurement and provision of various items with utmost austerity measures. Many more viable and effective measures are available to solve the present problems of AI. I am an Ex-Defence Personnel having served the Department of Defence Production for around 42 years in different Departments and offered a number of suggestions for cost cutting and reducing OHE etc., In case, the honourable Minister permit me, I can get associated with AI for working out various options to reduce the expenditure/cost cutting etc., and thereby ensure sufficient profit for the pioneer Airliner in the country Prafukll Patel is heavily bribed by private airlines (Jet, kingfisher) to make air india weaker and weaker.
