Yes it is possible
by A K on Feb 04, 2009 11:35 AM  | Hide replies

It has no processor, no LCD, and no Hard Disk. For processor you need to connect it to Mobile Phone like HTC, for LCD screen you need to attach an external LCD Screen and finally, the Hard Disk should be an external USD.

Its a bad joke....the world is laughing at us.
No way even a minimally functional laptop be priced so low. A $50 laptop could have been still beleivable. The LCD is the costliest feature of the laptop and definitely will be proced more than $10. OR the government must have borne the maximum subsidy for it.

questions to media persons who make this a breaking news
by Rajesh Manikkoth on Feb 04, 2009 11:01 AM  | Hide replies

To be frank i don't think with INR500 you can buy a Laptop . If consider atleast 10 % margin to the Seller and Labour and other manufacturing cost, shipment cost another 25% ( these are bare minimum ) , the components should be available for INR325 Rs ......This is the most weird thing i ever heard .....It is Just a gimmic .. FOr all those media persons who are running behind Breaking news , please answer my questions so that you can Justify what you tell

1. Do you have / or did Arjun Singh and team provide you with the spec of this laptop
2. What is the processor used and what is the speed
3. Do they have a LCD screen .. What is the screen Size
4. What is the Hard disk and RAM capacity

I don't go for more .. If you report about a 500Rs Laptop , you are supposed to give above info also .. Otherwise i feel they made a Toy and call it a Laptop

You are correct. I bought two items from rediff shopping and both were big flop. Once I was shipped with cheaper item than I ordered and there was never a response from customer care

How can this be true?
by Inba Tamizhan on Feb 04, 2009 10:31 AM  | Hide replies

Though I sincerely pray that India developing a $10 or a $20 laptop should become a reality, my mind refuses to accept that this could be true. Atleast not using the present day technology.

As Negroponte pointed out even the display costs more.

Please dont spread news like this and make others laugh at we Indians until we have demonstrated that it is "indeed a laptop" and it is "priced at about $20"

Kids stores sell what they call "kids laptops" with regular keyboards and flash based programs. However these are not laptops as we understand it. They have 4x4 dot matrix monochromatic displays, no hard-drive, no-OS. So perhaps this is a flash based solution with just email and web-browser. I would be curious about the display though. In fact one can look up these kids "laptops" at Vtech's website.

Hidden Charges
by pallavi gupta on Feb 04, 2009 09:52 AM

All the IT companies levy hidden charges, that you get to know only when the deal is about to close. OR probably these are refurbished laptops. But if this happens then I think, companies like schoolsonweb (As their product is too good) will have bright future. As they provide extremely cheap software solution for educational institutes and major problem in India is of infrastructure.

Impossible
by h r on Feb 04, 2009 09:42 AM

If this is true, than all the IT giants ( who have greater resources to develop new things and better technicians) will be dead. According to a Mr. Atanu dey( a blogger), if this laptop is built, for example, if it has 10 components, each component must cost rs. 50 . Dear friends, i got my wifi working for about 2000 rs. Maybe, this is a toy calculator, plus some more features. jesus, look at all the hulla bullah India has made abt this even without evidence. Their is no evidence in this article, that supports this. Foreigners might be laughing at this.
