i have been to the income tax department umpteen number of times in the past. Being a service person, every time i go, they quote that my address has changed and the onus is on me to inform them. lately they have taken my account number for crediting. knowing the system well from all the visits ( once i had even written a letter to the commercial tax officer that i will go to court if he doesnt give my refund. he had to come back from leave to sign the cheque which was lying without his signature for a long while). first of all, as good citizens we pay all the taxes even before getting the salary. then they make us run around (not to mention the mental anxiety) for the refund. taxes have become the birth right for the government, which ever may be coming to power.frankly, there should be a strict check for the performance of the income tax department. does anyone know if the right to information act can be used on these people?

You can definitely use Freedom of Information (RTI) for the systems IT dept. is following.

response from RTI is going the same direction - very slow and inaccurate. Keep appealing. Where do you end at last?? Courts?? Those are worse.
Tax authorities/staff not only harass the honest tax payers for issuing the refund but they also take bribe for issuing the refund. If you dont' pay the refund is delayed or not given. and now the amount has been diverted to some other accounts. It cannot be happened without any conaivance of the staff and officers.
it z really no shock for me given the fact that i'm i'm from TN & our (former) FM is also from my state... you people of north india may celebrate this useless advocate but not people from TN as we know the real colour of "our" man... he has amazed wealth to the tune of 300 crores in opening banks itself ( apprx. 600 branches and 5 lakhs per inaguration ceremony)... his wife was given all the cases of his husband dept... No shock for we the people of tamilnadu... we are WISE ???? still we'll elect him again !!! Jai Hind !!
