'Other Income' forms a significant portion of their earnings. Then why are these Babus asking for such a rise in their official pay when their 'other income' is several times of their salaries? Before asking for a rise in their salaries those Babus should stop taking bribes and if they cannot stop taking bribes, then they should be asked to shut up.
I have seen a number of messages in the forum stating that it is through a rigrous selection process that these babus become babus..(No pun intended). Well check it out with the coroporate guys.. they have to gruel every quarter of their working lives. If there are not able to perform even for one quarter (3 months) they are chucked out summarily.. Iknow in some organisations this period may be as high as 3 quarters, but then this is some pressure that these babus will never be able to handle..

I think you need to learn where you can put "No pun intended" telling you this so that you dont make same mistake elsewhere and make yourself look like a fool...
The Babus are the real rulers of this country. They appear both in policy making and execution. Netas are responsible for all that they do.It is the prerogative of netas to do legislation and babus to broden it and execute. Now, since netas are hell bent on vote politics they making the policies to suit their nature. The financial freedom is not given to the babus hence always for anything they have stand infront of the people representative. Let me tell you one truth, India was better ruled between 1975-77 in its life time. It is because of no authoritarian rule during that period. There is psychological study which says that authoritarian rule model is best for India and not democracy. Anyway, coming back to babus, every year at the max of 100 are chosen from a lot of 4 lakh candidates, the ratio of 0.00025!!! through a tough competition for which they work for morethan 2-3 years. This babu is responsible for betterment of 10lakh people in is constituency. He works normally 24 hours day (yes more than anyone who work in a private company) because he is involved in CIVIL SERVICES. You cannot compare it with any other competitive exam which has got only one paper and 2-3 rounds interviews. Finally for anything there are 1000's of seats or jobs for which success ratio in any worst case is not less than 0.05. Babu has to travel a lot to make sure govt policies are implemented and some one has to serve him during that time but a pvt employee can stay in a 5* hotel at comp money.

Seems that you are a babu yourself. If it is that bad, why choose it in the first place? Go to private company and enjoy 5* luxury. Its simple. A babu wants to grab everything. He has power, position, black money, comfort, security and most luxuries that anybody could only dream. Now they want the things that they dont have, i.e. white money. Just imagine, if they get that too, can you possibly imagine what other luxury they can even ask for? Perhaps chicks and hotel rooms also made available by the govt rather than businessmen!!!

I again advise all IAS offiocers and IPs offiocers to obluge us and quit.Go for private sector atleast those who are below 30 years.please dont waste you time and ours.WE canbt pay sarakari babus more than what we are paying.thuis too needs cut now.SO?take or leave it.All the best.More of these guys quit better for nations.
Very sad IAS"s called as "babus" & they themselves r responsible for getting this "name bcoz they suck up to politicians for favouable postings become corrupt, buy houses in posh areas, club memebership etc & eventually become babu's...Ha Ha
These guys are permanant unlike the ministers in their respective ministry.
When an organization called "Indian Railways" was running loss for all through its life before 4 years, many ministers came in and walked out. But all these white collar officials still were there gulping everything under their throat.
And when one minister could make it reap mind blowing profits year after year, what is the mistake in kicking out those who were sucking the blood for decades?
They will have to have a basic fixed pay and then rest should be based on performance like any other private sector organization.
Else, jus' privitize all this and let the citizens enjoy for what they pay for...
Govt. should devise a strategy so that these so called inteligent and hardworking fellows get the chance to perform but with conditions attached. Make all govt jobs at par with jobs in pvt sector. Those who qualify and got selected should sign the agreement that if their performance is not at par or upto desired level then they will be thrown out of the service. It should be made compulsory for all jobs whether it is in public or pvt sector. The target should be fixed like pvt sector of course higher for all these fellows because they are hardworking and inteligent. The performance should be evaluated on yearly basis. The performance should be measurable and their should be no biasness in judgement. The same criteria for all politicsians and leaders. They shoul be recalled if they are not performing. All facilities, perks, benefits (both monetary & non monetary) should be commensurate with responsibility. I think this is one of the way we can make them as well as ourselves responsible and accountable. Pay as per performance and power as per responsibility. No tantrums required.

I do agree...performance oriented incentives only else fired..the only way to make these people straight.
Employees takes govt jobs for granted, make unions, want many things. But neither they talk of work or output. In India,we will find one highly literate person in every family fighting for good employment. Boom in private sector is only for highly qualified and technical people,Now a days Higher qualification is again very dificult for normal poor person. And he gets A babu is normally SSC pass or may be Graduate(Nothing trained/technical)and never keen to do or learn new things,he moves papers and responsibilities to next table only. Main issue is not of salary..Issues are of 1) Corruption 2) Poor work monitoring 3) No motivation to efficent 4) Instead efficient people are made overburdened 5) Inefficent gets rewards 6) Political interferrence
I strictly beleive that all Govt jobs shld be made contract basis with terms 1) 5 year in probation fix pay 2) Next five year job/work based salary 3)Again 5 years higher salary based on output 3) After 15 years promotion to managerial/adm level with all govt perks.
Govt sector has very less young people having attitude to work. Old employees are just passing time.Making papers black.
So Perks and Pay shld be made proper for efficent people, over time shld be introduced. Pay cut for leaves after certain level.
Give facility not money..as money makes them proudy and inefficient.

by Vijay Swaminathan on Oct 11, 2007 01:59 PM
Please dont talk out of context. Babu here very typically means IAS / Administrative Services. Try and take up the paper and I challenge you to pass it all the way through to the inteview level. Dont demean them. They obviously are wrong is asking for both the cake and eating it too, but that does not mean that they dont do their job. If you pay a Cop pittance, he will definitely take bribe, pay him his due to live a reasonable life in comparison to the others of the private industry, and he will do his job diligently.
These ppl are the REAL culprits of our society as they are educated and still doing the corruption with mixing their hands with UN-Educated/Un-Social/Gunda Netas/politicians.
The corruptions from a Neta is expected as he is a gunda, bit not from these ppl.
See the salary scale of a IAS officer, and guess if he ll not touch to his salary and only do savings still he cannot have crores in a year/ in his life time. But EVERY IAS officer is a crorepati ! HOW ???

Can you imagine that how much amount of workload is onto an IAS . he has to plan hundred of things and implement hundred of things on the same day at the same same time he has to look every aspect of the city/district.....so many problem comes along everybody points finger onto them in very few cases they would be appreciated ....intact one can understand their real job by really knowing them from very near not from here sitting on the net and surfing it..............

Yes one thing is clear that not all IAS people are bad and corrupt...but it seems majority are. Your views may be biased as you may be near to an IAS, but the public WHO come in CONTACT with the IAS in a regular working capacity have had very bad experiences...they have seen first hand how corrupt these IAS officers are! if u are close to an IAS means obviously that IAS is not going to ask for bribe from you right?!
