if govt will go for salary at par with private then it will bankrupt. it has 70% staff which is useless and not talented. while private co. can utilize staff properly so they afford higher salary. if govt will not kick out this fools and raise salary then one day it will be in a condition of bankruptcy , will have to close many department and its employee will be in mess. u cant give higher salary to fools all the time.

Dear Sir,

Please Don't talk too much ! It is not easy to enter into govt. service, as you think ! You have to write test and qualify ! That is not enough ! There will be police verificiation even before an offer of appointment !!! Understand !!! Don't be in the habit of criticising "in general" about all govt. employees ! They are not fools as you said ! They are more effieicnet than others ! Their entry into govt. service itself is a proof for this !!!Do you know that there is "contributory pension scheme" from 2004 for govt. employees - the only charm viz.."Pension" in the govt. service is also gone ! It is true that they are low-paid ! No one can deny this ! Their pay is revised only after 13 / 14 years !! But in Banks/PSUs it is once in 5 years !

Do you know the workload / work pressure in the Secretariat of any Ministry in Delhi ? that too when the parliament session is on ! It will be like hell of a pressure !

Further the govt. is systematically closing down deptts.! Do you know that ! Eg. BSNL has come some years back !

So stop making non-sense comments about the low paid govt. emoployuees ! O K !!!!!

Hello Kavi sir

R u one of those who clean the seat with the butt from 9-5 everyday, get bribes and call it "pressure" and cry about private sector salaries?

Do the government servants know what is pressure at all?

And why dont they let go the perks ? you know how much a normal citizen have to spend to have a house at the centre of the city? And for all those attenders? and Cars? And the fuel for those? And escorts?

c'mon dear.. wake up. Let us help the upliftment of the poor, the orphaned children, the old people who "really" needs attention.

Our money is hard earned and should be spent for the growth of the poor and not to grow bellies that are already big enough.

mr arun, you donot think officers should live in offices, thus giving up those cars etc.then wait for a magistrate to arrive on foot when the mob attacks you.what about tensions of responsibility and those late nights for parliament.the salary should go with responsibility.kick out those who do not perform.

Granted. To enter the civil services there is a very difficult entrance exam, then verification .... and finally one gets into the service. Then what? Promotions come based on the years of service. Pay hikes come in when the Pay Commission puts in recommendations.

Everyone gets hikes as per the years of service. I am sure you know that in a lot of the private sector companies people have to go through a rigorous process to get a job preceded by a rigorous entry into BE, BTech, MCA, MBA and the likes. Once you're in, you do not get fixed promotions and your pay hikes and bonus depend on your performance. AND .... there are NO PERKS, ONLY SALARY!!!!
If civil servants want a pay similar to the private sector, let them give up their perks, and get paid according to their performance. ARE THEY GAME FOR THAT???? I think not!!!!

Kavi, you need to first remember that a government service offers stability and job security which is not existent in the private sector. So its a trade-off between a reasonable salary (govt salaries are still a lot higher than what most indians in urban areas earn) and job security, perks and a relaxed, no-pressure work atmosphere. If govt employees feel shortchanged, why dont they leave their cushy govt jobs and enter the privaye sector and compete with the best of the lot ? You cannot have your cake and eat it too. You will have to give up either one or the other.

And the salaries in the private sector have increased only in the past decade or so. Untill about 15 years back, private sector salaries were significantly lower than govt salaries, which was excluding the perks, allowances and holidays that govt employees availed of. Govt employees enjoyed this all these long years and now that the private sector has started offering performance linked salaries to capable individuals, the suddenly start demanding comparable salaries but with the same working conditions as before.
On a final note, the govt will indeed go bankrupt if it heeds to these demands and hence must not even consider them. If govt employees feel shortchanged and are confident enough of their skill sets, let them leave their stable and cushy govt jobs and join the private sector to compete with others on a level playing field. Stop living in a fools paradise.

I agree with the demand for a respectable salaries to the Govt. servants. Alongwith the hike in salaries the proportionate responsibilities and hire and fire policy like pvt. sector is also necessary to be introduced.

even if they are put at the same level as private sector salaries, they would seek (demand) favours for international trips and long distance journeys. today, the salary what they get is a net savings for them since all other expenses (including diapers and condoms) are given to them free of cost.
If they are to be to be at par with private sector executives, they should be falling under the executive compensation (as per the companies act) so that their perquisites get limited to 10% of salary and also taxed.
Like in the private sector, they should also be made accountable/answerable with goals and 6 monthsly performance reviews etc. which would make most of them lose their jobs.

Just abolish this category. They are of no use. A non technical person comes with this tag and sits as the head of such technical organizations. He tries to rule such organizations without knowing any abcd of such organization. He just creates caos and havoc, plays with public and government money. He ditches the government also after some time and joins the private industry and only does the role in the capacity of advisor and draws lakhs of salary per month. He uses his influences the government machinery because of his previous stint over there and tries to ditch the government by getting orders for the private company for whom he is working. Just abolish this at the earliest.

Auction these Posts .
by Venkat on Oct 11, 2007 10:51 AM

Instead of hiking the salary, it is better that these public money spinning posts should be auctioned. I am sure there will be n number of bids for these posts. First of all these babus become IAS by manipulation of polititians and then they get plum posts. Theier only problem is that they can't get white money. Black money is not a problem at all. This is the reason they want a hike in salary. I am sure all these salary would straight away go for investment and not for their daily lively hood. This is how the govt comes to their rescue to create wealth for them. Recetly there was a TV explosive on these Babus dowry rates. It is any thing between 50 L to 100 L. Still they cant invest bcz dowry is also illegal black money.

It is give and take policy between Babus and Polititians. You help me, we will help U.

If an opportunity is given I won't mind taking up the employment free of salary.!!! I will take care of my self. Only condition is I should not be questioned about my source of Income. I will hapily pay taxes on all my income.

This way I will serve the nation honestly.
