Yes its true..
by Priya on Jun 27, 2004 09:21 PM

Dear Rashmi,
Ur Article on the latest recruitment in s/w companies is a fact. There isn't any point in getting disappointed, coz' this is the way it is! Its better an engineer who comes out of college without a placement knw the latest trend, than blaming on everything else later! I am a computer engineer,an off-campus recruit, and am working for a company which has very rigid rules for selections. I had all the tough times to find my dream job.
So I would say, never get disappointed, never say enough. Nothing in this world comes for free. Try ur best and leave the rest.
Good Luck!
Priya

Gerald Tennyson
a most stupid kind of logic from an IIM grady
by Gerald Tennyson on Jun 27, 2004 09:19 PM

This is idiocracy at its peak!!!. if you think that getting job is the only concern, then I think Ma'm you are on the wrong side of the road. I definitely agree upon the fact that most of the guys n' gals are going in for softy's. But how long are they comfortable in their jobs. I am a MEchanical Engineer and a Materials Scientist. If I go in for a software job, will I be sustainable?. Then in your words I take up a course that is considered a "waste". Earning is not that matters alone, getting a job satisfaction is the top priority. PLease dont' make the younger generations go as a waste softy junkies.............

My Reaction:seems correct!
by Dr.R.K.Lalwani on Jun 27, 2004 12:51 PM

dear rashmi
as a concernd parent whose son is about to join BTech. your article caught my attention.Yes I do agree to all that you have written about the career and institue selection, regarding the way those big names make their selection in fact I have also sensed and felt the same , though to me this method of selection is wrong,But in today's world it is the "market' which decides the ways!Appropriate weightage should be given to the candidate's overall performance but Institute should not be the first criteria.Your suggestion indiactes that even if someone is Inclined and seriously interested in computers ,for example, and fails to get it in an NIT then he should even go for any other branch even one, in which he is not even remotely interested, again for example say Civil ;!sacrificing all his interests ,just to stay in NIT! To me this seems ridiculous !But you say these are the ways now a days!I would prefer to go against the market trends may they be set by Infosys or Wiro or whoever,My interest and choice should be the supreme deciding factor ,and not the pre-set methods of getting those jobs.I don't know how many will agree to my point of view.May be even my son disagre!

just a thought
by Sujay on Jun 27, 2004 12:02 PM

Instead of running after software jobs, which anyway is US money (where the US finds cheap labor in India) - why don't engineers just come to the US and work in their fields and make money doing something they really want to do ? I mean- how exciting is sitting in a cubicle the whole day and typing code ? Wouldn't you rather really use your engineering skills and make 5-10 times what you would in India, working in the US ??
