Most of the engineers are employed by IT firms, from branches which are not anyway related to IT. What is the actual capacity of Indian firms related to each engineering branch/ Nobody in Indian HRD Ministry makes any assessment before granting permission to open any number of engineering colleges. These colleges, many of them third rate or below take students unfit to be engineers, with very low marks in maths and science subjects, which are the core of engineering studies.and then employability is low because of relatively low demand of engineers. Most of them then go to IT, BPOs or sales.

In karnataka Engineering colleges are getting shut as there are no students to fill them.
Completely agree with the information here. As we are not able to find the right people to work on the projects, we have started our own IT finishing school (Softgrace Technologies) to train the graduates on technical and communication skills so that they will be ready for industry.
Many of these comes from the small town & villages...they don't even have knowledge of ABC of communication..they cant speak English properly. They come here & spoil the atmosphere with their weird habits.. They liter every where & spoil the places with garbage, they have no manners & etiquette, foul mouthed.

Dear Mr Jaiswal; The topic is about Engineering graduates.Your comments are not welcomed. The so called small town and village candidates that you are talking about have flourished in corporate if they have passed from good reputable institutes. The problem dear freind is the quality of studies that goes on in tier 3& 4 engg colleges and not the lack of spoken english as you have mentioned

you fool! that is not the case. The problem is with the teaching, undoubtedly. Problem is, only rejects, who are unable to get job in industry enter teaching.
That shouldn't be the case. Teaching is an art and if colleges pay the right salary, the right talent can enter.
Colleges, to save money, hire freshers to teach...who obviously lack the talent and experience to teach.
Pls don't bring in rubish argument...it's disgusting that you think like that.
It's not just India, the UK has exactly the same problem, as do many other countries. The government has the idea that the more people who go to university the better for national prestige; most of the university courses contain very little practical work, and the colleges of further education that previously taught engineering have been closed or turned over to flower-arranging and aromatherapy. If you haven't got your hands dirty repairing motorcycles or washing machines you're starting from scratch if you try to design a better motorcycle or washing machine, rather than using the current state of the art as your jumping-off point. What makes the situation worse is that many employers specify a university degree as a required qualification and thereby exclude many people who do have the necessary practical knowledge. Look up the history of the race between the Wright brothers (bicycle mechanics) and Samuel Langley (a university professor receiving a huge government subsidy) to be the first to get an aircraft into sustained flight under its own power. There needs to be good practical training available together with facilities for learning the theory, underlying mathematics etc as you become aware of the need to know them; the point where you realise the need to know the theory is the point where your mind is most receptive to learning it.
After reading this article, I am glad I refused to do Engineering in a private college after flunking in my JEE. I completed my BSc and spent a lot of free time & Holidays working in workshops, Garages and Engineering companies. Finally, got into IT field which is actually not meant for BE/BTechs. IT/BPO's are for ordinary graduates, but since the pay is good, BE/BTechs have swamped IT.
99% of them are not even fit to be engineers.. With so many sub standard , 3rd class engineering colleges around, these non deserving people get into these colleges and become sub standard , 3rd class engineers...! What else will the be result , if not unemployment?
the basic problem is greed. Without having enough infrastructures, proper faculties, a lot of engineering insts. are growing day by day. They get approval for money so they loot poor youth.the quality of such graduate engineers is even inferior to a basic graduate.
