Politics penetrates education sector
by karunasagar Dheram on Sep 12, 2012 12:35 PM

It's no secret that more than half the engg colleges in Andhra Pradesh are owned by politicians. And when YSR brought about the scheme of reimbursing fee to all BC students, it was aimed not to benefit the bcs but to hand the bounty to the congress men. And it's anybody's guess how these private colleges mushroomed in the next few years. Now the govt pays a whopping 4000 crores to these colleges as reimbursement. With all this money, Govt could very well have opened colleges of quality and imparted education to the bcs, but it was never the aim. Now the standards have reached a rock bottom, govt can't pull back from the fee reimbursement demon with all the political parties vying with each other to woo the bcs. Colleges are now so corrupt that they are prepared to 'recruit'students sharing a part of the booty and even waiving the necessity to attend college regularly. the less the better about the infrastructure and faculty of these colleges. Finally the sufferers are meritorious students and their parents, and of course the tax payer whose money is finding channels into the politicians's pockets.

basic problem
by TheBudhadev on Sep 12, 2012 12:31 PM

Basic problems are

- The education framework in India churns JUNK. Instead of imparting knowledge , it prints certificates and distributes. For example, in AP, a score of 0.5 is added to the overall CGPA of students from a govt school . Just like that. Nowhere else in the world is seen.

- Every one wants to become Bill gates. There is nothing wrong ( Lekin Apna Aukaat ko pehle jaan na chahiye).

- Youngsters are very arrogant and because of movies and media, they think they are mavericks. Apart from FaceBook and Smartphone, none of these morons know nothing. Give him a peace of code, he is dead.

- No bandwidth to learn. Most of them possess less than average IQ and bigger mouth. No humility or discipline.

There are exceptions. Those people silently achieve what they wish.

Todays Engineer is Clerk
by kapil patil on Sep 12, 2012 12:29 PM  | Hide replies

Engineer produced from hundreds Educational institutes lacks the necessary aptitude and attitude combinations. You cannot have better output just because you have more machines.

Most of IT engineers can be compared to Clerks of past generation (create a document, update, follow certain guidelines, code in C, Java, Oracle, SAP in certain fashion to produce certain output). They lack vision, desire to change world for better and courage to stand on their conviction.

Unfortunately what you said is true.

In IT, sadly these guys compare salaries - 5 years CTC should be 6 lacs, 10 years CTC 12 lacs.. and so on .

But when it comes to work, even a 5 year experience is JUNK compared to an average programmer anywhere in the world.

The quality of engineers, any engineers is JUNK in India.

I think like Chinese goods which are available cheap, Indian professionals will become famos for the quality.

Junk
by TheBudhadev on Sep 12, 2012 12:26 PM

Just like Indian economy, majority of the output of these colleges is junk. They got there through formula type coaching classes. Possess neither acumen nor enthusiasm. of course not all are like that ( else we would have been in deeper sh%t).

The quality of candidates we interview has gradually gone down during the last 10 or so years to reach the Nadir now.

Some of them do not even understand basics of math and science forget about computer science and engg.

God save the company into which they get into.

Carriculum is out of sync with reality
by Archana Kulkarni on Sep 12, 2012 12:23 PM  | Hide replies

What they teach in college has nothing to do with reality on the ground. It is as straightforward as that.

It is unlikely that the educational institutes will change anything because what happens to the students after graduation is not there concern.
