Include IIM CAT syllabus as part of JEE
by antar jaal on Feb 16, 2012 08:48 PM

As most of our engineers end up as "Management" folks any way (what a waste of good Engineering education) :).

Obviously I am kidding, I think it will be a shame to restructure JEE when it has shown a good way to reduce (or eliminate) cheating/corruption at the State level. I would rather the government focus on trying to figure out how India can invest more in research and encourage good engineers to build products instead of managing the status quo.

proposed entranace exam for Engineering and Science
by Vijayan K K on Feb 16, 2012 08:43 PM  | Hide replies

What is wrong in giving 40% weight age for the school board exams? It will be definitely better than preparing the rank list based on an exam of only multiple choice questions. And the much hyped IITns are not that good. I had the opportunity to be in a selection board of candidats with B.Tech &M.tech holders who have disappointed us.

One can buy their way to a good result at the state level...that's why its not a good idea. Also, various states have varied standard of education. For example, when I studied in Gujarat in the early 90s the standard of Gujarat versus Central Board was pathetic. It would be unfair to compare a student from that state to a Central board candidate. (and I am not bashing Gujarat as I loved it...but one has to admit their weak points).

I agree with you. I am from IIT bombay batch of 1966 and M.tech 1970. It is my cofirmed view that thwe fellows there are only basking in the glory of those who passed in the past.Presently Industry thinks that they are substandard. They are only good to into MBA or migrate abroad.Which is what they mostly do.There I know many hold temporary jobs but do not get back here.Of lte that might have stopped. Many a top engg MNC no longer consider them as fantastic material and certainly not above the toppers from other colleges. Reason is they cram and get into IIT - the only objective is to get the label of IIT on the chest. Other Engg colleges are now producing managers who are far better and dedicated and are doing exemplary work.THey are working here on Indian Salaries whereas I know many will get fantastic salaries in US without ever getting a US degree

Sibal should be sent to Mental Asylum
by Miss on Feb 16, 2012 08:40 PM  | Hide replies

IIT-JEE should be left as it is. It is not possible to create a test which works to create a distinction among the top 1% of the spectrum, as well as draw out a distinction among others.. Not possible. JEE is designed to create a range of marks at the top level. A guy getting into Civil Engg might not even have half the marks of the top ranker. But the guy getting in Civil is still better off than the lakhs of others who have taken the exam and not qualified. Creating a single test would be really tough to make such a distribution of marks and still be able to place a few lakh aspirants across the country based on it. A test meant for the top bracket cannot be used to classify the bottom guys as well.

I agree with the view of Miss. JEE is thousand times better than the proposed ISEET, as the 50% weightage for class XII marks conducted by various Boards cannot be properly standardized.

Have you done any survey as to who is getting to top positions lately in MNCs. Not from IIT but from other colleges. I am from IIT bombay and made some very Important projects in Power sector and my team never had an IIT engineer in It.It was one of the worlds first project on mart metering and smart grid. Are you aware of the quality of IIT Engineers now and what some of the top honchos in power sector has to say about their quality? The other colleges have left IITians miles behind!Just find out from where are coming the new breed of Managers in Top MNCs?Coaching institutes has ruined the shine of IIT

Kapil Sibal mentally retared
by M Gupta on Feb 16, 2012 08:32 PM  | Hide replies

I t appears that Kapil Sibal is mentally retarded. He should be examined by a good Psychiatrist in front of court to know the real reason why he is taking or announcing these kind of steps. Every second day he comes with new statements. After examination if he is found guilty of sort of conspiring against our education system. He should be punished and should be sent to jail.

THe point is some private colleges are better than IIT now and this certificate is coming from a IITian. I move around the Engg circles and interact both people from IIT and from Industry s well as from other colleges. Cramming for IIT has reduced the intelligence prt in selection. Many an excelent brains could not get in because either they could not afford the fees or were not on proper location etc. This coaching business has to go lock stock and barrel
