Not Happy with the 40% weightage of 12th mark....
by on Feb 17, 2012 11:02 PM

pattern of 12th cbse board paper is far different from iit-jee pattern, its not necessary one who got higher percentage in 12 in more intellegent.. IIT-JEE asked mostly problem analytical question, while boards asked definitions, bookish question.. HOw can u compare...

WRONG TIME TO IMPLEMENT IT!!!!!
by Phoenix on Feb 17, 2012 10:35 PM  | Hide replies

Well there are students who have already started taking up courses for preparation for JEE-2013. well even i'm one among those....nearly 80% of students who'll be writin the JEE would be mostly from the central board CBSE.... But suddenly in the middle of our preps, if they take such a step which goes in favour greatly towards the state board students,,, it feels disappointed... they must have implemeanted this from 2014 so that the next batch of students do get a good idea abt the preparations wen they reach 11th...

Board Exam Results were always considered for admission to IITs
by YMeera on Feb 17, 2012 11:02 AM  | Hide replies

There is a misconception being spread that right now that board results are being totally ignored for admission into the IITs and the HRD ministry is going to rectify it. That is not true at all. Right now a student will have to secure at least 60% in the board exam (in addition to clearing the JEE) to get into the IITs. So board exam results were always an important factor. A student simply could not neglect it.
Also it is impossible to clear the JEE by mugging (see the Wikipedia page on JEE). It is an exam where fundamentals learnt in school is applied to solve innovative problems. These problems are never repeated in subsequent exams. Only if the fundamentals are clear and the person is able to think laterally and use a combination of what they have learnt can they crack the exam. Unfortunately too many people who know nothing about the JEE or are upset at not having cleared it have are voicing their opinion on it.

But it is always possible to mug up and score well in X11 as questions are always predictable and repeated.. 40% weightage to XII exam results for IIT -JEE where cut-off marks are never very high is always going to push sub-standard students into IIT's. This will push parents tpo put more pressure on kids to mug more n score more. Coaching institutes who will help in mugging will excel more..

The condition of Higher Education is pathetic due to involvement of politics in the system. Self financing Education system promotion lead to death blow in garb not talking about all but situation is disastrous. Take the reformation of IIT H'nble Minister rightly thought to control the emerging system of Coaching System and wish to involve the weightage of 12th. Is it not sounds political that for crushing Nagnath Sapnath is invited and now both Nagnath and Sapnath will mentally and financially torcher the aspirants and gurdians. Nobody thought why all this happened ? Due to failure of Schooling system Coaching emerged as Gurdians are paying heavy school fees and Schools are not imparting the requied level of education ? Why ? as the the education has become a business in garb to expand and promotion of education. When U compromise the quality and standards altenattives will emerge. This is a bitter truth Now what will happen besides paying heavy coaching fee gurdians now has to pay heavy amount to school colleges to maintain weightage standards. Then what is the motive of govt. Do U think this is right remedy ? What is needed stricter reforms in education system and its overhauling. If the student is satisfactorily taught by properly qualified and properly paid teachers keeping in view the needs of present scenario. Is not right that we should do analysis of the quality and standards of education imparted by schools and colleges and to bring them up to counter the coaching.

This is a great news for sincere students..Kudos to Mr. Sibbal

Giving weightage to teh 12th board exams is an excellent and much needed step to select real bright students for IITs. At the moment, the students who just completely ignore thier 12th exams and keep mugging up the entrace sample tests get through. It is unfair for those who want to maintain their real study of 12th grade which is absolutely necessary. Great step by Mr. Sibbal.

You mean students whose copies are evaluated by sub standard teachers in XII and who mug up easy to very easy questions in board exams are bright students???? Real bright students are those who will clear IIT-JEE without any help from XII exams or reservation

Why Everyone is Against this Decision???

The Test is going to test the Critical Thinking, Logical Reasoning and Comprehension. These are the most important aspects for Engineers? These things will test a candidate if he is ready for taking up engineering. You cannot test candidates for Engineering Knowledge to become an Engineer. You only test, if the candidate has the aptitude to become an Engineer.

I think, this move is actually good, and this will produce only quality engineers. IIT-JEE is only testing your subject knowledge and not exactly your comprehension or logical thinking. The people who top in the new test, will get into IITs. Why are the IIT-JEE coachers crying foul over this? They are afraid of losing business. That is all.

We already are thinking that we are not producing quality engineers. This is the first step towards producing quality engineers. We want people who can think and behave. We do not want students to vomit what they studied. The application of any knowledge is most important than the subject itself.

In my Opinion, this is a great move towards selecting good minds to study engineering. Do not cry foul over IIT-JEE exam. It is not just the best thing in the world, even though, it is one of the better things available.

Let us look for more change, towards good. Do not still be in the mood to write exams that are 50 years old.

weightage to marks at 10 2 for IIT JEE
by swami pudipeddi on Feb 17, 2012 04:35 AM

As there is a standard for the state syllabus, CBSC to make a student to study well for these exams. a weightage of the marks obtained by them should be given. Then the marks obtained in JEE for IIT should be taken and rank allotted. Keeping in view the demand, and over all number of students appearing for 10 2, the seats in IIT should be increased to allow the aspirants to have the opportunity to pursue the prestegious course. What now happening is making the student to concentrate on IIT JEE and give low priority to the normal academics which does not give a good foundation to the student to pursue some other course if disappointed in the IIT JEE.
