Dear Readers, do you agree with the HRD Ministry's decision to scrap the JEE and AIEEE? Do you think having a common entrance exam will really help reduce the stress among students?I am afraid you IIT-ians will lose the respect you are having in US & European science community.Though I am not from any IIT i know that you are bringing pride to the nation in foreign lands.Let your voice heard.

IIT/JEE & AIEEE
by surendra sethi on Feb 17, 2012 02:25 AM

Both exams have their own importance & standard. Already AIEEE covering so many colleges & IIT is apart from them hence EE must be continued. HRD should look into the aspects of eliminating coaching classes who r miinting the money with hardly any result but parent has to participate on the hope. Their fees shuld be controlled by HRD rather dissolving the standars of IIT. Surendra

I am sick of sibal and his fool decisions because of which our country suffers. Shame on his Constituency ppl who elect this kind of person. If we have to really tell sibal that how sick and bad his decisions are then his I request his Constituency ppl not to vote him. Give your vote to any independent or any one else who can do something for you and save our country.

A phase

As far as JEE is concerned, the exam is no doubt tests the neuronic speed pretty well, and propels the candidates to excel in entrance, and in no case this standard should be compromise, but that does not preclude the inclusion of other colleges for this exam. The objective should be not to take the sheen off the IITs but to make the entrance exams less painful and less complicated for candidates, in any case the life is not all about graduating from IIT, almost every pass out IITian either does MBA and little opt MS/Phd, that way the IIT brand is a launching pad, and vision of "Excellent technical education and Research" becomes redundant. Though the 10 2 board exam clause sucks, then getting into IIT will become even more lopsided towards coached ones, as they will score better in board exams. Rather it is the responsibility of JEE exam cell to bring such a paper so that coaching becomes less helpful. If at all board exams have to be counted then let 10th and 10 2th both be counted but that too not more than 10% combined. Let Mr. Kakodkar committee further ponder about it.

Srapping of IIT-JEE
by Mrityunjay Narayanan on Feb 17, 2012 12:21 AM

I think Mr. Sibal need to understand that the schools and institutions need to be pulled up so that their students perform up to the standards of the IITs instead of replacing JEE by ISEET or some other exam. I do agree that the students need to give one exam instead of many but then we do have one AIEEE covering most colleges & another JEE for the IITs. Even in US they have ACT & SAT. It's similar to replacing CAT by MAT instead of maintaining CAT for the IIMs and MAT for other colleges. The purpose seems to be to finish the finishing schools aka coaching institutes. In fact the coaching institutes are saving the existing schools from getting into the coaching business instead of catering to the main stream education. Coaching is an alternative system and it's prevalent across the world.

Board exams in some states are extremely easy , but they are very difficult in some states. Kapil Sibal is not using his brains properly, he is creating an idiotic way of selecting IIT candidates. IIT is well known across the world, but he is ruining its reputation.

End of the IIT
by Secular india on Feb 16, 2012 11:49 PM  | Hide replies

Now we will see State boards specially in south competing to give higher and higher marks for their students irrespective of the standard of Exam passed.
In a country where a answer sheet is evaluated in 3 minutes(some time by teacher's relatives and children), no common syllabus, no evaluation system.
Pure competitive entrance exam is the only fair manner to judge the deserving candidate.

Only the students filthy rich private schools will benefit from this changed policy.

Wrong Decision
by desi twist on Feb 16, 2012 11:43 PM  | Hide replies

The first thing is to understand the purpose of IIT-JEE exam. It was to select students who are top of the bracket when it comes to problem solving and application of principles. The Board exams do not emphasize this aspect, so the final marks do not correlate with problem solving capability.
Sibal's intent may have been to reduce pressure on students, that is a good thing, but that should not dilute the core purpose of JEE entrance exam.

Correct decision!!
by rajesh shah on Feb 16, 2012 11:05 PM  | Hide replies

At present 50% seats are filled up by students who study @KOTA coaching classes only. This will create a new paradigm and bring in fresh air to the IITs.
also importance should never have been given to exams which only require people to put circles on an answer sheet as there exists a good possiblity to suceed even without knowing a single answer correctly!.
