IIT IIM sucks.

There is no pragmatic quality research anywhere. Its just about coaching and corporate money.

Their is hardly any quality in these Hyped Brands!!

B.Tech and MBA are not for research!, if you want to do research join IISC.

Whole of Indian research can't be in IISC. Research should be part of Every institute Big or small , to ensure utility, quality and growth.

Hi Kallol, please do not blame IITs for lack of research. In our country we do not have a culture of research per-se. Why should a student after doing B-Tech enroll for Masters or PhD (that gives a stipend of 20k Rs per month or less ) and not join the software industry whenre the same student can earn four times the money each month. Pursuing research in India is not viable economically for the student's life and career. Please blame the govt planning commission that we do not allocate enough of our GDP for research. No wonder we have Btechs going to USA to pursue PhD etc. Again we have all the facilities available at IITs, problem is that we have failed in creating an environment that encourages research.

That's exactly is my point, that so no such emphasis or environment is there among faculty( Non Technical Govt seems to be waking up now..) .I am not saying make research mandatory for every student.Look at the Industry n Technology in India now. Hardly any of the significant product we use in our daily life is from Indian company.

World has advanced so far and we are still talking about it.

Indian Govt should Set up Institute of research only with no selection criteria.Toppers can hardly contribute to research.

How Students have to work for good grades too
by s s on Feb 16, 2012 10:59 PM  | Hide replies

It makes sense...there are lot of cases students got good scores in JEE but failed in 12th standard.

Sibal has started thinking from right side on this :-)

Can you give some data to prove yourpoint. If someone fails in senior secondary and pass Jee then I will say that that student is genious though I doubt that this can happen(may be due to some physical reason or any personal reason but it can not happen that student pass JEE and fail 12th)

voice of coaching institute
by Gulvinder Sharma on Feb 16, 2012 10:39 PM

MR. Sibal is going in right direction. Single exam will stop the wastage of money of new students. Only looser will be coaching classes mafia who are standing against this step. This is matter related to new students not for those who had already passed the IIT or AIEEE.Stop crying on right step.Improve school/college education of 12 class to stop costly pvt institute classes.

Focusing at the wrong place
by Manoj Gupta on Feb 16, 2012 09:09 PM

Mr. Sibal is focusing at the wrong place. Country's primary, middle, and secondary education need complete overhauling. There he can do whatever he wants. Noone will complain or protest. I am not sure why there is so much hurry to destroy the existing system without repairing items that requires repairing.

Sibals plan
by alok Misra on Feb 16, 2012 08:59 PM  | Hide replies

I am from IIT bombay batch of 1966 and 1970 M.tech I fully support the plan of Mr Kapil Sibal.Vested interests involved in coaching institutes are opposing him. Coaching institutes have lowered the quality of intake in IITs. This must be stopped. While working on several prestigious projects I did not find one IIT boy of suitable quality while student as from other engg colleges qualified. If you now look up the top bosses in some of the MNC few are from IIT rest are from other engg colleges. The shine of IIT is losing fast.It is ot my opinion only but the opinion of some of the top honchos in the largest power utilities. IIT professors feel that the students there are not following their profession once they are out and sometimes the education imparted is being lost. We need good quality dedicated engineers if we want to compete in international market. So Mr Sibal must be supported.

Previous Pattern much better
by siba rath on Feb 16, 2012 08:56 PM

The new test ISEET, the brainchild of Mr Sibal is a useless concept, as the 50% weightage given to Class XII marks, Standardised from 42 different Board exams cannot do proper justice to the students. The present pattern of JEE should be allowed to continue.

Sibal's new entrance exam plan draws flak from IITians
by kv raghuram on Feb 16, 2012 08:51 PM

Kapil Sibbal had so many bright and innovative ideas, when he was HRD Minister, which had given the students community enormous hope and expectation. But, gradually, Sibbal became a sort of power unto himself, and started to implement his own pet policies, without caring for the long term effect this will have on eduction.
