IIT just became FIVE times more expensive
by bimal mohapatra on Sep 13, 2011 09:00 AM

It is yet another attempt of Elites (political, top bureucrats, business class, etc.) to restrict children from lower economic background to study in IITs & IIMs. After their children failed to compete with middle class rising talent despite Kota based artificial talent creation & foreign university education, they want to use huge price weapon to reduce the middle class talent to remain elites' employees rather than being top managers and entrepreneurs.
Is not it a mistake to hyke the cost of IIT education five fold? I can not imagine how could these intellectuals (so-called) think of this proposal? Are they from a different plant to think of these non-sense in a country where 60% population spent their 60% income to buy their food only? This is most unfortunate. I may propose maximum of double of present fees.

Relax. .. GOI has turned down the offer.
by Bramhanand Jha on Jan 23, 2011 01:06 AM

Government of India has turned down the offer of raising the fees. Bright students might find so high fees as hindrance.

Revamp the system. The is the present requirement.

Truth
by Sasank Nayak on Jan 22, 2011 07:46 PM

Let me say the truth. Anil Kakodkar and Co. were paid up comitee for the Assoc. of Private professional educational institues. They want to hike their price so that to afford the sixth pay commison to survive. They can not do it unless there is either a recommendation from AICTE or a procedence to follow.

They are trying hard to get it done through the IIT management. If IIT hikes the price in the name of autonomy, then the gate opens for the private institutes as well. Anil Kakodkar, as is known since his BARC days, is a man who enforces the lower ranker scientists to include his name in their research work against numerous official approval. In one case, that person dis it against the approval of the guest house for the writer's parents.

It is what we say - "Worshipping false gods".

It is justified.
by mangesh mhatre on Jan 22, 2011 02:51 PM

All IITs are Autonomus.
Expenses for the training & for the global knowledge base is ever increasing. So admnistration can increase the fees to fulfill the need for extra expenses. They need not look out to govt. for more funds.
In turn students will get benefitted.

Actually Govt. bears most of the expenses & finally students go abroad & offer their knowledge & creativity to other countries.
So now let students bear those expenses & pay it back to bank after graduation. There's no harm in it. Banks do offer Students Loans at very resonable terms & conditions & many a times WITHOUT ANY COLLATERALS - so even a poor student also can avail it easily.

Con-gress vote bank is poor and illiterates. If every one becomes Eng's-Doc's-Mang's,, then who will vote for them....Think.. Indians are best when they work for somebody.. and not when working for themselves...So fees hike is justified to have more babus then ....

by vicky singh on Jan 22, 2011 10:40 AM

This is not fair. Can you imagine and average working class person to shell out 2.5 lac plus other expenses for his ward ?
Simply NO.
This proposal only paves way the students belonging to elite class.
This must not happen.

IIT hiking fees
by shyam roy on Jan 20, 2011 04:32 PM

As a matter of fact, government subsidy for pursuing professional courses, generically for all students, should be stopped. This does not happen in case of other professional courses. There are definitely other areas where government money can be spent for meaningfully. However it is true that basic integrity and efficiency must be ensured for those who are responsible for spending government money.
