BIDDING FOR IIT SEAT??????????
by good people on Jan 19, 2011 07:09 PM

Instead of 5 fold increase...G.O.I., can put the IIT seats for auction...with no common entrance test. Only people who have money power can study in these so called premier institutions. All the talented/merit students will have to compromise for ordinary education and ordinary standard of living. To hell with the proposal of a five fold fee hike....I appreciate if the G.O.I. or the IITs put a simultaneous proposal for a 5 fold increase in salaries for all the parents of IIT applicants. God......Please.....Please....Please....help.

Almost every IIT pass out get a decent placement and hafty pay packet.Banks willingly ready to give loan to admitted student. So why r u people crying at fee hike. This will make IITes more independent and free of political interferance. It does not affact any body at all.

right. middle-class-kids will not even attempt the common entrance test now. only dalits, minorities, with scholarships, will try for iits, now. upa-crooks want to destroy the only source of self-uplift thro pure merit, open for the non-reservation hindu-kids of this country. mother india will never forgive sonia and her dynasty for this crime.

Out of reach from Middle and poor class
by Ashish H on Jan 19, 2011 06:49 PM

The status of basic education already gone out of poor and middle class by private schools. Now the higher institutions also going out of approach by these classes of society. Government have money only for increasing salary of ministers and filling up their Swiss banks account NOT for common class.
Condition gonna worst in Future for sure...

Ridiculous fees
by Prakash on Jan 19, 2011 06:47 PM  | Hide replies

Why such a top notch institution should charge a very very low fees of Rs.2.5 lakhs per year ? Can't even imagine it is not even $10000 per year. Even 1Kg garlic costs Rs.500 to Rs.600 in India. They should make it $10000 minimum per year immediately.

Because these institutes are funded by taxpayers money, this is OUR investment to ensure we train bright students. Even if a small percentage of students stay back in India and go on to serve this nation am sure the returns will amply justify the investment.

A Impractical hike in fees.
by RanVijay Singh on Jan 19, 2011 06:28 PM

This thoughtless move will hit the middle and lower middle class students hard. I do not understand this impractical suggestion when Govt is footing the expenses.
A very concerned parent.

Counting class X11 score will be a positive step
by pradeep agarwal on Jan 19, 2011 06:24 PM

I hope vested interests protecting Tution class mafia will not be able to sabotage this move. The lack of weightage to board results is root cause of male students especially from Bihar making it in IIT with few female students getting selected due to their inability to stay at places like Kota for cramming the paper.I hope Kapil Sibbal will allow the council to bite this bullet & bring much needed change in profile of students in IIT.
