Now all IIT BTechs will officially leave the country
by srinivas rao on Jan 20, 2011 08:59 AM  | Hide replies

If you do this, then the BTechs will have to leave the country to get back their investment... No one will stay back... No one will go into core industry...

speaking of stats we have lost the headcount of the no. of IITians leaving the country for greener pastures. Serving the country in any case has never been the priority of 99% of these technocrats or for that matter any of the educated junta. But pains us most is---the IITs (Govt) spend quite a chunk of money in training these technocrats but iterally 90% of these so called technocrats still stand in queues along with other normal engineers begging for jobs in areas where skill sets hardly matter. If these technocrats think they are a breed apart then they should not be begging for jobs but should channelise their efforts in innovative ideas and generate jobs wthether in India or abroad. They are some successful lot already but in peanuts.

Bade baap ke bigadi aullade
by HT Jadhav on Jan 20, 2011 08:52 AM

This is all because of highly corruptive politicians. Put all culprits of high profile scams like CWG, 2G behind bars and get those money. This money will be enough to provide IIT education to extraordinarily brilliant poor students for many years free of cost. This rise in fee will keep talent mass away from IIT and soon “Bade baap ke bigadi aullade” will enroll in IIT as B.Tech students. This “garbage” will ruin the image of all IITs.

Good Move And So Will Not Pass
by Desi Bhai on Jan 20, 2011 08:32 AM

Not so - allmost all IIT grads get awesome employment post graduation and those who can't afford are guaranteed a very low interest loan without a credit check - still a very good deal. In fact this will help the Indian tax payer a little bit who until now has been footing the bill for the economic success of all the Vishal Khoslas et al of the world, for absolutely no return. This is a good move... and so I know that the "smart" Indians that we are, we will not let it pass.

In fact if we were really smart, we would have started levying a cess on all these so called IITians who have used the subsidized education to seed their economic futures in the West - would be fair given that most would find this cess chump change and this way the Indian tax payer would at least get some return on their investment.

Raze these institutes
by Vivek Dev on Jan 20, 2011 08:25 AM

IITs were NOT meant to produce high net worth individuals. IITs were meant to produce competent engineers who would work in their fields of specialisation to provide technical inputs to drive the economy of an emerging nation. These institutes have manifestly failed to do anything of the kind. IITs prefer to work in all kinds of non-technical areas- banking, merchant-banking, HR, marketing, politics, civil services and what have you. Had Kalam gone to IITs he would have been marketing credit cards and financial products. These institutes are a colossal drain on the taxpayer and need to be immediately razed.

poor fees
by ramkrishna on Jan 20, 2011 08:18 AM

protect the poor , poor means even economically weaker sections, without caste or creed , education loan is a must, IIT students should get loan - wheather the committee recommends 2.5 lakhs , or more ,loan can be given and he has to repay , that is the main responsibility of the student, then only another student will get, even ordinary private institutions are charging 100000/- rupees per year, why not iit charge 2.5 lakhs , only affluent society students are not repaying , i mean returning the money to thebank, this also i heard when i was talking to some bank officials, particularly those who go to abroad for higher studies or employment.let them correct themselves

The Hike is justified ...
by Anupam Kansal on Jan 20, 2011 02:33 AM

Less fee, less money to get good teachers and support structure. Higher fee, take a loan, get a good job, behave responsibly and pay your loan. Why should a country's honest taxpayer sponsor education for a person who will go for a private job and most probably leave India. Plus if you have no load and have a handsome pay packet, will you give some money to poor or charity, highly unlikely, most probably you will go and spurge on expensive electronics clothes restaurants pubs, then why not pay for your own education. Plus, all these colleges have good scholarship programs for the actually needy. Before anyone taunts me for my views, I have been there and done that, I am from an IIM, took a 8L loan for my education and have recently paid it off ... and am in the US right now ... plus no guilty feeling that i robbed my country of money that could have gone for primary education for the poor.

by Loknath Rao on Jan 20, 2011 02:09 AM

The fee hike is a must. Great institutions are not built on socialism. Look at the Ivy league universities in US.. all are in the top10, 100% private and full tuition fees charged with generous sponsorships and support and assistantships. we indians must come out of the poverty story now. enough of dole outs.

it is just milking the brand. there is nothing special about the IIT education. it was the students themselves who made the brand. but with the dilution of the entrance exam and the advent of coaching institutes that is long gone. now its just above average students and average education. everyone will soon find this out.
on other topic, even those who left have contributed very significantly. staying in India is not really necessary to pay back.
