vote and indian politics. nothing but business..
by ALOK MISHRA on May 06, 2009 11:19 AM  | Hide replies

Like any other business venture. not Indian Politics is nothing but a Business venture.. of invest 5 cr and get 50 cr. within 1 year time kind of thing. I have never seen any political party including the big ones engaging in serious People Development programe. Before election their time is spent on canvasing people for vote and after the won it they spend time on "recovery" or how to maintain their majority with horse trading.... in India Democracy is just a Eye Wash..

You have to help yourself
by Nilesh Pate on May 06, 2009 11:15 AM

Sir,
Its time that we helped ourselves rather than depending on these selfish goonda politicians. Try to raise a finger against them and then just see the result. I can vow that your life, family and job will be destroyed in next few weeks. These ruthless politicians are using the police as their goondas. These politicians are worthless and don;t want any development of this country. They just want to fill their accounts in Swiss Banks.

Self Help is the Best Help
by Bhoot Pret on May 06, 2009 11:07 AM

People like Nishatha Singh, should not wait for someone to come and help. Why wait for some corrupt and good for nothing leaders to come and help. They should motivate people of the village to try and explore ways to solve their own problems.

Why manifestos by political parties? Why not by people? A thought
by shivling on May 06, 2009 11:04 AM

Why should the election manifestos should be released by the respective political parties? I believe people from respective areas should draft their needs/manifestos and then collectively should be shown to the respective candidate/poliitical party and they should agree they will be able to complete or fulfill the needs at a prescribed time if they come to power and the progress and completion should be reviewd as per the people manifesto and this should be signed by the candidate or the political party. If the candidate/political party fails to complete the needs then he also agrees to resign from his post. This peoples manifestos should be part election strategy. This will bring in responsibility and ownership to the elected candiate. This agreement what so ever should be made public in news papers. What say? will this help?

Civic sense

President John F. Kennedy, in his inaugural address to the Nation said "Ask not what America will do for you, ask what you can do for America". Indians are used to demanding everything from the government, without doing anything by themselves.Parameswaran

there is lot to discuss in this, we con't compare ourself to other particularly with US. tough it is true, nation should ask their citizen what will be the contribution of individual to build up the nation. who has got this right ? this dirty politician ! this corrupt politician ! so citizen has right to ask every thing from politician.

When governments ask for Tax from its citizens, it is their duty give necessary infrastructure. There is no harm in asking Government to extend necessary infrastructure support. If any citizen asks Government for free food, rice at Rs.2/- then it hurts the economy and people become lazy, govts will have import so much in keeping theor promises. There is no harm in asking Govt for basic necessities like, water, road, sewerage lines, electricity. Dont get me wrong Parameswaran.

Indian economy after independence is based on British system of ruling the population once the power is given. There is no turnback once you get elected. Since the historic times, We have been a slave of our system and will always be. Only a mass revolution may change the scenario.

Praveen Singhania, I understand and respect your views that not all pay tax. But with the tax amount collected, infrastructure can be provided to even those have-nots. Every politician wants to loot the tax money. An MLA, MP or any politician is invariably extremely rich, has many houses, land, cars and the like. How many politicians do we see leading a middle class family life style even after becoming a known politician

Meaning of Freedom
by Hariharan shankaran on May 06, 2009 10:39 AM  | Hide replies

Yesterday a couple parked their car in front of our gate and started eating from a packet. I was standing at the gate {a way of spending time by a senior citizen}.Some small paper pieces the youngester dropped outside. Half the packet only they could finish and then he called "Uncle" would you like to eat and he offered the packet. I declined. Then the young lady was about to throw the waste on the road itself but the youngester noticed me watching and told me that we should drop those waste only in a waste box. I pointed to the papers he threw on the road. Civic sense we Indians have to first learn before asking for good water.

Govts collect tax and it is their duty to provide clean water, sewerage, electricity, roads. No harm in asking for basic infrastructure. Yes, the civic sense is of utmost importance. The topic of civic sense here is out of context

Hi Madhwesh, You are absolutely correct! It is a high time for we Indians to realize that most of us still living in stone age infrastructure. Our mentality is like a frog in the well.

It is more than 60 years passed & majority of tax payers are still struggling for the daily basic needs of a human being such as clean water, electricity, road infrastructure.

Winsten Charchil said rightly... give them freedom & see them ruled by scoundrells.
