Asking for clean water, a CRIME????
by Sugath T on May 06, 2009 10:33 AM

We the relatively small percentage of educated persons complain righteously about political and governmental corruption. It is our own people who are sitting in the govt offices and assemblies. In fact, the politicos dont want our votes. They are happy with the votes of the ignorant, the villagers, the cannon fodder. We are not ready for the principles of democrary - for the people, oh no.

What has the AAM Aadmi got ?
by vikram on May 06, 2009 10:27 AM

Think about the following :

During these last 5 years it has happened or no ?

Poor and Middle class people have lost hard earned money and savings in shares ?
Middle class people have been lured by moving sensex Up and down and UP. ?
Have Politicians ever bothered to step out of their A/C vehicles to know the countrymen’s plight , any other time, than during elections only ?
Have property investers made pots of money in HISTORIC property boom ?
Has price of PHARMACEUTICALS, PAINKILLERS GONE DOWN ??
Has the stock markets being played with constant VOLATILITY.
Have Banks agreed to reduce rate of interest ?
Do you feel u r earning for the bank ? and ur pockets are always empty ? ........... money ille , not there !
has government taken any action to significantly reduce ROI and check if bankers are passing on the reduction in rate of interests to thier OLD CLIENTS
Has pornography, pervertness and kinkyism, frustration increased , become very common ? more stress ? anger, violence in today's youth ?
Are more woman out on the streets to ESCORT/ compromise, to earn a living because of loosing jobs and proper means of livelihood ?
Has Government put deaf ear towards unemployment ?
Why there is so much VOLATILITY in the markets and liquidity has dried up ?

Mineral water no more exists. It's just purified water that bottles now like Aquafina serve.

I really don't know any company selling mineral water at all these days...

Drink water should be top most on any political party's agenda
by SS Kumar on May 06, 2009 09:04 AM  | Hide replies

In India, we get so much carried away by non-relevant propoganda that the basic human ex-pectations of adequate clean water for drink-ing, bathing, roads, electricity, infrastruct-ure, schools etc. take a back seat. The new government must take up networking of rivers on top priority.

Not the government alone it is the job of the water authorities to expand the supply to other regions with government monitoring the progress.
Water supply companies who have the contract to supply clean fresh water is the main culprit followed by the government for failing to monitor its progress and finally the public for not demanding collectively rater then one person fighting for the rights of all others.

Dear All,

You can see in all replys in discussion board evereybody is expection the SO CALLED GOVERNMENT to do all the work for us.

WHo is Government ????? Persons amongst us may be our relatives, freinds are working as BABUS in the Govenment offices and are absolutly inactive and unaccountable. Whether they do their duty for which they are paid is not looked at and go scot free for their inactiveness.
I feel we should start putting pressures on these people who are the real culprits for all this things.

I agree and disgree with you at the same time. For major projects like in-terlinking of rivers, there has to be a blue print of a plan ready, resour-ces allocated and people drafted to carry out the work. A clerk or a Babu in a Ministry on his own cannot start digging to connect rivers. The person in charge should have a plan with a defined deadline to avoid cost over runs. I do not know for how long we are going to see the irony of floods in Assam and drought in Orissa & MP at the same time. Instead of wasting time on issues like Ram Mandir, the politi-cal parties can take up this project in right earnest so that a large num-ber of people across India can readily benefit. I hope you agree.

I agree with you. I think each state has its own shade of the same problem. You should ask for your local Minister in charge of water supply to meet you. You should ask him to establish the line of accountability, so that the erring person can be punished. Your local state government should have a local website where such problems can be reported directly to the Minister's attention so that the agency distribut-ing water can not behave in an arbit-rary manner almost in a taunting
"catch me if you can" manner. You should seek accountability and seek deadlines for specific actions from the Minister and escalation procedur-es for such complaints. Basically, a process must be established to handle such complaints, infuture.

The other question we seriously need to ask is why is that 60 years after indepen-dence, we do not get continuous supply of electricity. Every state suffers from power deficit, with the children being affected the most during their exams. In most states in south, it is highly errat-ic or lasts for 6/8 hours per day. In Tamilnadu, I am told, the DMK is likely to lose the elections primarily on this issue. We should all ask the new Govt., which ever it be, for a clear cut action plan on this.

I have repeatedly said that if the Govern-ments both at Centre & State levels are to function effectively, they have to be made accountable to the people who elect-ed them in the first place. Right now, the legislators, with some exceptions, visit their constituencies only during election eve. Every Minister must be made to appear on local TV every 2/3 months and grilled by experts in his field & people for not meeting his quarterly targets, whether it be on employment generation, water / electricity distri-bution or any other burning issue. People must have the right to recall all the legislators who do not perform as per periodic goals previously established. Right now there is a tremendous disconect between the concerned Minister and the people who elected him, in the first place and the bottomline is account-ability is totally absent.

Clean Water in India
by Guest on May 06, 2009 07:49 AM

We have to use the current elections to remove the existing MP/MLA from this place. How long do we have to accept without the basic rights of Humans? We know there is problem but none of us thinks how to solve the problems? Let's be united to find solutions for our problems rather to wait for someone to solve it. Don't flight for some stupid party, leader , state, religion or cast let's fight with the problems that we face.

Pathetic India
by ashok kumar on May 06, 2009 05:18 AM

All the talk about growth and progress is hogwash..I just came back from India after two months stay...my Dad was admitted for a routine operation of an ulcer at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi...their incompetence and greed finally killed him.

The country is filthy from top to bottom...tried to escape into the mountains to escape from heat and dirt..even the Dharamsala air is now polluted...poverty is rampant as ever...best of luck mr. Singh.

Drinking water

Jagadpura is walking distance from Chandigarh as 70 years old Mr Nishatha Singh, says.
being in the shadow of a very developed and well maintained city this village should have benefited by having good roads, sewerage system and clean drinking water.
government of Haryana should have taken this in account and sorted the problem long time ago.
BUT IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CARE AS MR SINGH SAYS HOW MANY VOTES ARE THEY GOING TO GET FROM THIS VILLAGE.
If the government is not helping them then at least they can try to help them self a bit.India is well advanced compared to African countries yet the poor Africans have developed a simple method of filtering water and boiling it making it fit for human consumption.
All one needs is a a drum preferably a plastic one with top cut off and a small hole drilled at the bottom this is then filled with a layer ground charcoal at the bottom followed by sand and on top fine gravel and on top of it small pebbles this drum is placed on some rocks so that a bucket or another vessel could be placed underneath dirty water is poured from top on the pebbles which then seeps through the sand and charcoal dripping in the vessel below this water is then boiled and is fit for human consumption.
If this village is has so much water surly they can take leaf from African countries and help them self a bit.there is no need of waiting for some one else to do work for you you will have to get up from your back side and make some effort.
