This is a blessing in disguise for the NDA in Mumbai.
by Mee Mumbaikar on May 02, 2009 11:05 AM

Guys...I know all of you are disgusted at this low voter turn out.
However, please understand:
1. 60 % of Mumbai lives in Slums, most of which are illegal and a Congress vote banks.
2. This time around it is the slums which has not voted and the Flat owners the Middle class has voted in big numbers.
3. The flat owners middle class is traditionally anti Congress .i.e. Pro NDA.
So, this time NDA has fair chance of actually winning all 10 seats in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region( 6 in Mumbai 4 in Thane and Palghar districts).
Advantage BJP/SHS in Mumbai, so cheer up...fellas.

only solution is compulsory voting, or a fine of 5k for those who don't vote.

You can RULE India for $350 million and with the support of Media
by New York on May 01, 2009 10:55 AM  | Hide replies

* Total voters = 700 million
* Votes needed to win = 350 million

Since as per BBC, 80% Indians live on 20 rupees a day, you can BUY or BRIBE a vote for $2.

What is wrong with the politicians? You specify it.Rather than politicians,is it not the Judiciary more corrupt,is it not Law enforcement more corrupt, is it not the Babus more corrupt,is it not
Election commission more corrupt? The above elements are common factor, whether BJP comes to power or Congress comes to power.Their level of corruption will not vary whoever is in power. So surgery should be done to heart, rather than to the different organs.Once Heart is stable, all other organs will function normally.

Hey buddy, dont you think corruption is a complete different point here and corruption is a part of entire world.

the problem is Politicians after getting into power not meeting the commitments they make... they just goto sleep and dont listen to complaints/problems of a common man, always bizi when you try to reach them..

thats why the voting pctg... is going downwards always. and remove at least 10% from these because those are the people who are in close proximity to politicians and want to win then and thats why they vote...

actual voting by a neutral person could be well below 40%.

you left out the common man. If we are caught for violating traffic sign by a cop, we bribe him and get over it.

We should change first.

BJP has an upperhand in UP
by vijaya kumar on May 01, 2009 10:38 AM

In UP people are fed up with Maya, Mulayam & Amar Singh. People are also fed up with Central Govt. and blaming Congress govt. for price rise of daily need items, job loss, unemployment., farmers suicide etc. In the last by-election of assembly Maya lost due to low percentage of voting and Upper cast voters /Brahmins stayed indoor and not come to vote. Now the upper caste voters who voted for BSP are drifting away from BSP and this LS election they are going to vote for BJP. Thakur vote bank is also shifting to BJP. Congress is only in few gandhi family seats. Wind has already started in UP in favour of BJP and its alliance with Ajit Singh Lokdal also help BJP to get more kissan vote and more seats. Middle class and salaried class are happy with the proposal of BJP to exempt upto 3.00 lakh from Income Tax and other welfare measures declared in the Manifesto of BJP. Moreover price rise of daily need items/food items & Varun Gandhi episode would also have impact in the voting . It will be a 3 way neck and neck fight between BJP, SP and BSP in U.P this time with BJP having an upper-hand. BJP plus RLD may win more that 30 LS in UP with SP and BSP around 20 seats each and Congress 5 to 6 seats. This is the ground situation in UP now.

JUST SHOWS
by madanmohan siddhanthi on May 01, 2009 10:10 AM  | Hide replies

Apart from logical reasoning like four days holidays , summer heat and vacation for children ,the real reason for poor voting is everyone has given up hope .They have concluded that everyone is there to loot .New generation the genes are same - even Rahul Gandhi,s personal worth has increased .Literally beggars having got in to politics have become crorepathis . There is no law which has punished Politicans even who murdered, by courts .Economical crimes hobby.
The worst is the fact people have lost HOPE .TV channel are only keen on TRP rating and totally biased .You speak anything about Hinduism , you are non secular .The population is increasing unabetedly - no one is concerned . The increase in the population is amongst those who can not add to nations growth , increase terrorism or get lot of free doles from the government. People who contribute to the GDP , the middle class are raped day in and day out with increased Cost of living . The crime will increase . The interesting aspect is Money stashed away in Swiss baks - who are these guys ,Industrialists , Politicians , Film stars , High Ranking Bureaucrats etc. Not a middle class - the working class .How can any one bring them back - noway. This is one issue all political parties will be togehter.
The way money was flaundered in AP indicates extent looting .The cost of living - prices have zoomed , because the middlemen had a free hand - as they have been forced to contribute to ploitcians.GOD CANNOT SAVE,ONLY PEOPLE.

by hari das on May 01, 2009 10:01 AM

The one who wanted to vote will stop voting by seeing the `I swear’ and the `amir’s advertisement. These pseudo channels and their advt. in the name of voters awareness is all irritating and one will stop voting seeing their channel and such lots.. this is the real reason for less voting…
