we will keep lighting candles only
by manish rastogi on May 01, 2009 09:18 AM

Indians will keep doing this after a terrorist attack. Lighting candles doesnt do anything - The leader whos said this is true. Yesterday low turn out in Mumbai indicates that people have become insensitive to issues. They will keep on lighting candles!!

Democracy a failure ?
by vijaya kumar on May 01, 2009 09:04 AM

The faith of people in Indian democracy is declining. More than 55% people do not vote. In a four-way contest the candidate getting 15 to 20 % vote win the election. An MP elected by getting 15 to 20% vote of people is not a true representative of the people. Criminal elements, antisocial elements, religious fundmenalists, Goondas, corrupt people are being elected as MPs and people are loosing faith in Indian Democracy an the elected represenatives. Respect to political leaders, elected representative are declining. Who is responsible for this ? In my opinion the people who run these country for the last 60 years are responsible for the cuurent situation.

Vote doesnt matter
by Thing on May 01, 2009 07:40 AM

The vote really doesn't matter. It means more if people participate in governance. Voting day only matters to the media, celebrities and of course politicians all of whom mint money using this process. People know this and you cannot fool them anymore. After the first phase TOI went to town about how voting had increased because of their "Lead India" campaign without checking facts that actually it had fallen. Now they should rename it Bleed India campaign.

Sad day for Mumbai
by Sriram Rajaram on May 01, 2009 07:11 AM  | Hide replies

Wish more Mumbaites participated. They might be disillusioned or feel powerless to change things. If this is the situation with Mumbai, it is not a good sign for the whole of India. Heat, holidays, etc. are all excuses for the underlying root cause of either apathy or powerlessness.

Yes, after the attacks, I read news like - 'Mumbai shows its spirit', 'Mumbai hits back', etc. Now I see they dont know how to hit back. Maybe their spirit has been dampened so much they dont care.

SHAME ON REDIFF
by Rashtrawadi on May 01, 2009 05:47 AM  | Hide replies

There is an article on Rediff Headlines : "Terrorism started due to BJP".
Whenever rediff gets its brown bag from Cong highcommand to inculcate this kind of propagandized ominous articles, they disable its discussion forum.
Because they fear, people will whip on Rediff and their intentions.
Because they fear 90 out of 100 people will cry foul against Congress.

Because it is Congress habit to suppress peoples' voice.

Media never grants any coverage to Quatrocci taken off the wanted list, or the SC case on Teesta to exaggerate Godhra incidents, or CBI giving clean chit to Tytler and Sajjan Kumar ...but they fill their pages with what sari Priyanka sported or with her childhood day stories.

Shame on you rediff.
Shame on you media.

I feel it was the 3rd front who first negotiated with the terrorist for release of daughter of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, later NDA under the leadership of BJPs Advani as Home Minister further enhanced the guts of terrorist.
In 26/11 though was sad for us in Mumbai, was the frist time a government did not negotiate with terror.
This is a fact

In 26/11, terr0rists didnt held people captive inside a hotel and threaten to kill them one by one. If they did, any Govt you are rooting for would have released even Afzal Guru within 24 hours. There are situations and then there are situations. There is difference between every situation.

Incorrect - the terrorists only contacted for a negotiation from Nariman House and not everywhere. That too the conversation was cut-off midway and they never called back. The cutoff was from the terror1st side. Nowhere else was there any talk of negotiation. I was totally focussed in that incident at that time because my family is there in Colaba area. I dont know what transcript you are talking about. Suddenly some people, for equating this to Kandahar, are creating negotiation situations very likely to the hallucinations of a certain madam teesta setalvad during gujarat riots. Now they say it was a revenge for the 'atrrrrociiitiess' against muslms, then they say it was a negotiation situation, whatever makes them feel better.

It is reporter who is from a religion which is playing a major role in terrorism in Lanka and the person who is giving comments also belongs to the same community, he conveniently forgets his community are people who are spreading unrest in the north eastern states, they are also the people invovled in naxalism take the case of Prachanda of nepal, also the swami was killed by people belonging to his ilk, his community started terrorism since ages which he conveniently forgets. I think both the C and M religions are the root cause of terrorism across the world as they want to prove that they are the most powerful religion, in the quest for the same they have the world burning.

Suresh,

seems for you terrorism is restricted to a few bomb blasts and negotiation situations in big cities. Obviously you dont care much for India as a whole. Try growing up in a remote part of North East or West Bengal and then you will see another form of terrorism - the slow infiltration of Bangladeshi Musl1m immigrants encouraged by political parties to fill their illegal voterlists. Do you know the amount of inconvenience and terror the local people of those areas feel? Lands taken away....petty thefts to big robberies and rapes - identities hidden of course. Hndu familes specifically targetted and Hndu young girls raped. Incidents never reaching big media (of course there werent so many channels at that time). Number of mosques increasing like mushrooms and number of muslms increasing like anything. People leaving their houses and selling their lands to move away to other parts because guess what - no one cares about small places. Mr Nehru almost gave away Assam to China and thats the extent of his love for the people of those areas. And these incidents have been happening way before BJP came into the scene as a major party. The entire region is polluted now and that has added to the growth in terrorism.

I can quote a lot of similar incidents but cleary it wont matter to you much. You seem very keen on a debate but I dont think you have a good understanding of India as a whole or the pain of its citizens in remote areas. You are a perfect example of an over-co

Nothing gives you the right to say - only J&K and Punjab. They are not 'only'. They are two important states of India and deserve more respect from us all. So you admit terrorism was there in India - although 'restricted' in a few states. So how can you say BJP gave birth to terrorsm first of all? This is just plain selfishness like - as long as my state is fine, terrorsm doesnt exist.
