Yes, both SRT and Dravid come a shade below when it comes to playing in test cricket. Sunil manohar Gavaskar stands tall when it comes to temperament, technique, fighting spirit and single minded focus on winning / saving the matches. His fourth innings chases are some the best in cricket records and so are his third innings knocks to fight save India from innings defeat. I think Gavaskar faced a wide battery of top class bowlers without much physical protection.
Please put Sunil Gavaskar as the top Indian batsmen, then we can deliberate about having to consider Dravid or Tendulkar after that!

so true...even after 25 years his last inning at baglore is still alive in memory..SMG is greatst when it comes to test cricket.
If you are not above 20 I will tell u the real Scenario, when kissan-jam (that was his famous add) boy dravid comes to bat
people used to switched off tv sets & go to study or on lunch or to sleep or atleast to take a leak.
absolute zero voice in spectators most of them go out to have lunch.
fielders used to stand idle for hours.then Some start excrsizing, warming up Some are chatting with audiences at boundry line. Few are keeping their one hand on chin & supporting the elbow of that hand with other hand.Others are just watching helplessly.
comentrators yawning & speaking about history of ground & surroundings & other general knowlage stuff by diverting the mind of people from what is happening on ground.
bowlers slowing up with shorter run-ups. Trying to ball differently but all in vain. At last leaving on dravid & thier luck.
Umpires watching with "Man at funeral expressions."
Non-strikers most of the time waiting their turn to bat & standing idle. Not even bother to look at bowler or batsman but do other stuff like checking the strok of bat, foot lining.
Next batsmans not ready, pads scattered around, gloves on ground. Drinking water or chatting with fellow players at dressing room like no match is there.
After bowler Only busy man was wicket-keeper. Collecting most of the ball like practise sessions with full concentration. Shouting loudly everytime to gather attention from f

Sorry its truth.Indian selectors continued playing him only on the basis of performance of one series world cup 1998 in which other indian batsmans failed. He scored with average of 39 & strike rate of 72 (his best at that time & may it be till date in any series).
But truth also is after immense competition from Yuvi, Gambhir, sehwag, vvs he improved a lot aft 2003. & became a Great Batsman.
Hats off to dravid. He is one of the best test player. Not only in indian cricket but in worldcricket.
wish you a happy new life.
Now please dont start abusing me. I see most of Indians forget reality when they are high on emotions. We should accept & respect him as he is. His defensive innings doesnt make him anything bad but a great Indian Wall.
Tendulkar needs 13 more for his 100th hundred in today's match. I will put my money on him not reaching there courtesy succumbing to pressure. i am sure to cop flak from his fans if he does get there, but i have always held this opinion that he succumbs to pressure. lets see.
The analysis here is correct, but somethings need to be taken care of.Like Tendulkar had always opened the innings and had to paly till the end in order to see india win any match. This really takes its toll on the players having played the fresh, new bowling attack in the start of the innings. We can just not forget this when comparing tendulkar stats with anyother player. But hats off to Dravid for his unforgetable cricket innings.
Ravi Bhaskar has done a perfect analysis of Indian cricket.
There is no denying that Dravid is far above than Tendulka when it comes to the impact of runs in winning matches.
Tendulka was & is always interested in making those useless records. When Indian team needed him most, he has always failed. In contrast, whenever India needed, Dravid stood like a Rock and mostly so against better oppositions like Australia, Wet Indies, England.
One must find out how many centuries Tendulka made against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Canada etc. I am sure the count must be pretty high.
May be today he will make another one against Bangladesh.

Perfect comment of a day-dreamer. Want to know what is quality? Dravid has just 4 tons against australia and SA These were the best teams, bowlers of our era. Sachin has just 40 tons against the same. Regarding test averages, Dravid averages 33 vs SA, 38 vs Australia. In ODIs, he averages 25 vs australia. Sachin averages 55 vs australia in tests and 46 vs SA. And sachin scores these runs with sportsmanly strike rate unlike dravid. Is dravid even great???

Hi AgainstPseudo, I am also back with same reply for same coments.
People say that out of his 51 centuries we lost 11 times but they forget that we lost 4 times against SA (3 times away), 4 times Aus (3 times away), 1 against Pak (home-Chennai), 1 Against Newzealand (Away) and 1 against Eng (away). All these teams are quality oppositions and in most of these cases other batsmen failed. Even if we cosider only centuries of both batsmen when india won Sachin is well ahead of Dravid producing one winning hundred in every 4,7 matches (188/40) compared to 5,125 (164/32) of Dravid. Now all of you Sachin critics decide yourselves who is better matchwinner or match saver.

Dear Mr. Patel, Kindly read my analysis on this page below.
Secondaly even if you deduct Tendulkar's centuries against minnows i.e 15 -18 still he has more than 80 centuries against good teams. Now tell me even A SINGLE BATSMAN who has 75 centuries INCLUDING MINNOWS.

Not taking anything away from Rahul Mr. Sampat (as what ur doing with Sachin) but Rahul had very bad start to international cricket, and yet he was preferred over other youngsters thanx to Gundappa Vishwant who was chief Selector and included 5 karnataka player for winning Ranji Trphy onces.
It's a great article, no doubt, but i think Sachin's bashing was uncalled for. Both of them are different batsmen with differnt skill sets and forte...Sachin is great at setting up a victory, while people like Dravid are instrumental in taking the side to victory, both the roles are equally important..
