Tendulkar has more series/tournament-defining performances than any batsman in ODI history.
Tendulkar is joint-3rd on a list of series/tournament-defining performances – the true legacy of any cricketer is established from this. He has 10; only Jayasuriya (12) and Akram (11) are ahead of him, while Pollock (10) is level with him. That still makes him the only batsman to touch such heights. Ponting (8) and Dean Jones (7) are the batsmen who follow him on this count.
So, it is not quite true that Tendulkar hasn’t delivered in big matches for India, as has been the case made against him by some. 1998 and 2008 are the two memorable highlights in that regard.

The author is talking about test cricket here. Dravid is far better in test cricket than sachin.
Tendulkar has chased down more targets than any other batsman in ODI history.
Despite a belief in some quarters that Tendulkar plays better while setting targets than chasing them (one of the most important attributes of a top-class batsman), the fact also is that no other batsman has contributed substantially to chasing down targets as often as Tendulkar has (54 times) in all of ODI cricket. Kallis (52) and Ponting (46) follow him on that count. Amongst Indians, the gap is much more, as Azharuddin (44) and Yuvraj Singh (35) follow him.

haha. are you listing the number matches india won while chasing and when sachin was in the team ?
I do not know which was the match where sachin batted down the order and contributed in thrilling chases. I dont think people remember him for playing a tense innings
Pressure IMPACT measures the pressure a batsman faces when wickets fall at the other end. On this count, despite being insulated somewhat as an opener (as the score is always 0-0 at the start), the bare fact is that Tendulkar absorbed pressure 64 times in his career. This came about during the 142 times he faced pressure, so he actually absorbed it 45% of the time he came under it, a very respectable percentage, especially given the long career he has had. (Dravid, who has the highest Pressure IMPACT amongst all Indians in ODI cricket, actually absorbed pressure only 39% of the time he came under it).
Internationally, only Ponting and Kallis absorbed pressure more times than Tendulkar, but they also came under it much more as they were not openers.
the only difference between these 2 is that dravid played for the team and tendulkar is just playing for records. I was also a grt fan of tendulkar but now i feel he is just playing for records and earn money as much he can.

Dravid's SR in tests is 42 and 71 in ODIs... "selfish" anyone ???
rediff not allowing me to post what i want to otherwise i would have shown all dravid fans the truth.for a guy who has avg of 33 VS Aus and comparing him to Sachin.

If averages and runs scored are indicators of greatness, then surely Tendulkar is the greatest crickeer ever. If you can do an objective comparison, doing away with statistics for a moment, then it would be interesting to see who comes out on top.

If not averages, then we have the style of play. Sachin wins it hands down. Pressure of a billion. So many injuries. Still he is rocking!

Fink Fanther:
Wrong. By your argument Sir Don Bradman is the greatest cricketer ever - considering averages... But I like you idea of declaring that Sir Don was not really a great batsman after all... :)

i didnt see this comment from you. i have no comments to make aginst or for bradman as he played 60 years back and predominantly against 4 cricketing nations and similar pitches. and anyway, if sachin had an average of 99.96 and the next best average was 60, i would perhaps really consider my disilike for him. but thats not the case is it? there are many batsmen who have similar averages to sachin, dravid included.
Did any Oz reporter trash Warne to praise Mcgrath? To praise 1Guy, WE've to criticize others To glorify 1Guy, WE've to demean others You can always bend statistics to prove anything you want. Thats why the most neutral way to use statistics is without any filters
Dravid kept wickets, not bcoz he was flexible but bcoz thats the only way he cud be in the team. Author talks about overseas victories when Dravid scored 100s UNTIL ENGLAND SERIES Guess why? Bcoz inspite of Dravids 3 centuries we lost 4-0 Does that make his centuries less important or selfish? Similarly we didnt win just coz he hit those 30 centuries. Its the team that wins & loses games. Look at what happened to Pontings invincibility once Gilchrist/Warne/Mcgrath left. Thats why Tendulkar is such a MIRACLE. He kept our flag flying single-handedly when none of the other greats were around. How tough it would be to play aggression with the fear that the team will fold if you are gone. How many times have India imploded after Tendulkars super-human effort(then blaming him for not finishing it. Imagine an OPENER blamed for not FINISHING)On Rahuls retirement, he just accepted his time had come. The reflexes were slowing down. The no of times Oz bowlers got his middle & legstump (clean bowled) b4 he could close the gap between bat & pad, was astonishing The foundation of the wall, the impeccable defense had weakened & he retired. Dont read too much into it. It happened to Don Bradman, it will happen to

Sachin also weakened but not retired in any format; he does not even wanted to have some younger player coming up; he will rest when he wants not when team wants
Yes. Criketer goes to the greatness on how they do in the test. On that scale alone, Dravid and VVS are way way ahead of SRT. SRT just accumulates and plays for himself with cronies like Shastri Bhigle to do themarketing. He is a toy of the FMCG and that's it. No BANK would ever put Sachin on their AD simply because he is a hyped guy! Anyday our own Gavaskar is miles away from SRT.
