is dhoni good enough for tests?
by Sunil Vaidya on Dec 12, 2012 05:52 PM

in last 2 years 2011 and 2012 dhoni has played 19 tests 33 innings 4 not out 859 runs 29.62 average 144 highest 100s-1 50s-7 batting position 7

in last 2 years 2011 and 2012 gambhir has played 16 tests 29 innings 0 not out 907 runs 31.27 average 93 highest 100s-0 50s-7 batting position opener

in last 2 years 2011 and 2012 sehwag has played 15 tests 28 innings 0 not out 889 runs 31.75 average 117 highest 100s-1 50s-5 batting position opener

in last 2 years 2011 and 2012 kohli has played 13 tests 24 innings 2 not out 788 runs 35.81 average 116 highest 100s-2 50s-5

tell me what is the difference between sehwag gambhir kohli and dhoni that mohinder is making such a big noise about?

the stats above clearly expose mohinder. he wants like any regional selector to have players from his region in the team and in important positions. he wants players like sehwag, gambhir, kohli and mishra in the team and as captains or vice captains if he can manage that.
according to him dhoni has no technique etc. to play in test cricket...mohinder if that is so then how do you explain that he has matched your favourite quality test players like sehwag gambhir kohli in stats...that too coming so low down the order...
mohinder you say dhoni is protected by higher ups...so you want to protect your favorites sehwag, gambhir and kohli? If dhoni is not qualified/equipped to play tests even as a player if one goes by the figures of last 2 years then are the players that you are backing qualified?

Indian Cricket - captain - is more often a compromise person .He need not have exceptional talent .If you a good members like say Dravid ,Laxman ,Harbhajan , Zaheer(at his best), and Sachin - with a spray of Shewag , Saurav there is every chance the team will win matches . There is nothing exceptional with Dhoni ,not much talent great hand eye coordination - may be useful in 20-20 and to some extent one dayers .Captain greatness lies in coming through tough times and motivating members and getting best out of them .He had un pleasant exchanges on team members , advertising mis concepts etc rubbing people on the wrong way .He is CSK captain and the man Srenivasan has a lt of CSK and is influencial so with very littel record Dhoni continues .He is not fit to be in the team - more so on Teat team .With the amount of crikcet played including trash Cricket for nearly two months the thinking will be blurred - so get youngsters even the under ninetten captain to lead team from trash cricket to one dayers and the thinking cricket . There are mor e riddles and it is not easy for people to take decisions - like many companies time is the best healer so drag and drag decisions .

Why not?

Have a three captain for three formats. Nothing wrong with it.

In test, we need Dravid and Pujaras who can fight for five days and not bunch of sloggers, who just rules on flat pitches..

Stop analyzing too much.

Just be disciplined and focus on winning games. Give opportunities to players who are really hungry to succeed, not the players who have experience or huge endorsements in the pipe.

Fletcher's role
by TestCric on Dec 12, 2012 04:05 AM

The question is what is Duncan Fletcher's role in the India cricketing model.... Where does he fit in.... Or does he even fit in at all....may be there is a conflict in his way of thinking and how/what the board wants him to do.... The scrutiny has to rollback to the board and start from there.....if you want the coach to perform then make sure that you allow him to think and act accordingly... Kirsten might have prospered in the as is model... But not Fletcher... Every individual is different.....
