Lots of discussions focusing on captaincy changes and all... not sure if that is the root cause... the reason why I say this is because you change one captain and replace him with someone who belongs to the playing 11.. which essentially means that he himself is one of the non-performers.. I believe the cause is much deeper than what we perceive.. the question is "Is this team really interested to go out and play test at this point?".. the attitude does not reflect the same... Mind it all these are good players... but since past 1 year it appears as it these player are not interested in spending 5 days on field... may be IPL or may be something internal.. who knows.. but personally I believe that changing the reigns would not produce the desired result...
yes its good to have different captains. but Dhoni should not be the captain of Tests. Also, we should have 3 different teams one for each format. Ideally, we should have one player representing only in 2 formats of the game at maximum.
but need to admit that everyone is being too hard on him. we earlier had ganguly who was a complete failure with the bat for 2 yrs but was lucky enough to have batsmen like tendulkar, dravid and laxman in their prime, who covered up his failures. It finally took someone as conscienteous like chappel to kick out the laibility. Dhoni hasnt been this bad but unfortunately doesnt have as many good batsmen performing consistently as ganguly did. And finally, dhoni is definitely not a selfish player the way ganguly was (look at the number of times ganguly slowed down while nearing a personal milestone).
If you look someone to replace Dhoni in the test team then who else better than our own Ashwin. he is only player who is an automatic choice. he is young talented and promising. Moreever he is an engineer by profession thereby noone can question his intelligence.

Dinesh Kartick can replace dhoni as wicketkeeper and he can play anywhere in the batting order from no1 to no 7

The best cricket captain we have in India today is probably Goa's Jeffery Almeida. He's currently captain of the Goa Ranji team, a great leader of men, a guy who is very hands-on, feared by opponents and respected by his team mates. India needs a captain like him who can both perform as well as lead. He bowls both offspin and legspin without changing his action and is a brilliant close-in fielder, willing to lay his body on the line for his team. He is thirsting for success. Make him captain and the results are bound to flow.
The one option available is to give the reins to Sachin Tendulkar once again. Don't let your jaws drop, folks, before I explain why I suggest this option. I know that most Indian cricket followers are keen to know his future plans, but one can rest assured that the selection committee will not muster the steel to drop him. That being the case, the surest way to stoke the embers in Sachin's belly is to give him the captaincy for a period of six months to a year and try to resurrect the team.
He has been accused of not stirring the pot enough, and this is the best way to force him to do what is in the best interests of the team. The master's lack of form will be pointed out, but Dhoni's form has not been earth shattering either. The aura of Tendulkar will ensure that the entire team goes in the same direction. A different successor to Dhoni may get undermined.

In a way, a good suggestion. People will respect Sachin as a leader. With Dhoni, guys like Gambhir are not really happy to play under him. And with that attitude & his current form, Gambhir is not ready for captionship yet. So we can wait for a period till we stabilize the team under Sachin's captionship. But this should happen only in Tests. Dhoni should continue as captain in One days and T20s.

As regards professionalism, you are correct. The success of Australia & S. Africa at home as well as overseas, confirm this fact. There is no dearth for young talent in a vast country like India. By persisting with players who fail to perform match after match, the BCCI is not only denying deserving young talented players their due rights to play for the country but also making some non performing players in the team take their place for granted.
