lack of fitness main concern
by krishna v on Dec 11, 2012 12:15 PM

the reason of not doing well in tests is simple, we have a set of players who lack fitness in test matches. and come what may you cannot do well in any sport, if you lack fitness

its good as long as those captains does not play other format
by cc man on Dec 11, 2012 12:07 PM

its good as long as he does not play other format in which he not a captain to avoid cross overs, egos etc

That is, if Gambir is captain for test cricket, he should not play in ODIs.

Lack of fitness and taken for granted attitude of players!!!
by Hindustani on Dec 11, 2012 12:03 PM

Real problem is the lack of fitness and taken for granted attitude of players like Gambhir, Sehwag and Zaheer Khan.. Gautam Gambhir comes across as a selfish player...Tendulkar though going through the end of his playing days still is a better fielder then most of the indian players.. that says a lot about the indian team

yes, it isa good option

split captaincy is a good option. dhoni in tests has lost his midas touch, the other option like gambhir or kohli are under pressure to perform, therefore the only alternative left is to make sachin the test captain against the australians.he is the only player who is sure of a place in the side, moreover he is revered by all his fellow players, selectors, media etc., so no one will object to his elevation. also, as per ravi shastri,& bhogle, sachin is still very excited, committed to be in the game, his vast experience may help india to overcome this bad phase, and also help him to retire from international cricket with his head high, as this australian side lacks experienced players in their ranks, and a win against them will help sachin to improve his captaincy record, which presently is the worst amongst our former captains.

I think , since india losed main key players like Rahul Dravid and VVS ...it is very difficult for Dhoni bcoz nobody is there to carry the responsinbility. This is very bad patch going for Mahi,bt i think he will soon find solution for this Mega problem......Hope for the Best ...good luck Mahi....Kishor

Even when Rahul Dravid and VVS were playing India lost two test series back to back in England and Australia 4-0.

Sachin as Test Captain
by Crazy on Dec 11, 2012 11:37 AM  | Hide replies

The one option available is to give the reins to Sachin Tendulkar once again. Don't let your jaws drop, folks, before I explain why I suggest this option. I know that most Indian cricket followers are keen to know his future plans, but one can rest assured that the selection committee will not muster the steel to drop him. That being the case, the surest way to stoke the embers in Sachin's belly is to give him the captaincy for a period of six months to a year and try to resurrect the team.

He has been accused of not stirring the pot enough, and this is the best way to force him to do what is in the best interests of the team. The master's lack of form will be pointed out, but Dhoni's form has not been earth shattering either. The aura of Tendulkar will ensure that the entire team goes in the same direction. A different successor to Dhoni may get undermined.

Valid arguments. I have always maintained, Sachin should retire only when we get a complete replacment for Dravid and laxman. After Ganguly retired, we are still in search of a permanent No6 batsman. Raina played for sometime, then Kohli, then Yuvraj who has been dropped. Lets give Pujara and kohli sometime to see if thee can stay at No3 and No5 permanently, before asking Sachin to retire.
