another option
by thomas mathew on Dec 11, 2012 10:57 AM  | Hide replies

ashwin with a level head and performance to back up either in batting or bowling or both is a viable option for tests and allow Virat to concentrate on his batting and perhaps later once he has attained sufficient naturity , take up the mantle.

our own R Ashwin should be made skipper since he is the only player who justified his place in the team. also he is an engineer by profession and intelligence comes naturally to him

Nonsense. Ashwin runs slower than a tortoise walking. He is like a deadbody.

SPLIT CAPTAINCY - A GOOD SUGGESTION
by jamsheed abumohammed on Dec 11, 2012 10:52 AM

I agree with the suggestion made by Ganguly that the Selectors should talk to Dhoni and find out from him as to what type of format he wants to lead given his dismal record in Tests and ODI. The idea of split captaincy is good for the present as the Indian team in transition period. A young and vibrant Indian team would do well and we have no choice but to groom them for future. How long we can depend on the oldies to take India forward, especially when they are not coming upto their expectations.Nagpur would be the last Test for many old guards but then one has to learn a lesson from the past mistakes. A drastic change in the team alone would do well for the country. The attitude is missing as rightly pointed out by Gavaskar so much so that the players soon after the loss were seen joking, entertaining and even playing football instead of going into a state of depression atleast for the name sake. Dhoni was flaunting the idea of not deserting at this stage but wanted to build up a team. It seem he set his eyes on future too. India is not wanting for talent. There are many waiting in the winds and some are already warming the benches. Indian selectors made a big mistake in bringing in not fully fit Yuvi and Zak, not to speak of out of form Harbajan and Tendulkar. They have all crossed the prime and to expect them to deliver the same level of performance is asking for moon. What's wrong with Tendulkar,he should go and why he is sticking on till dropped is puzzling.Enough ofhim.

Remove Sachin and Sehwag from the team
by kusum pandey on Dec 11, 2012 10:49 AM  | Hide replies

While Dhoni is a bad captain based on his recent performance, he is still better than anyone else in the team. Indian team should be revived and Sehwag and Sachin should be shown the exit gate permanently like Dravid and Lakshman. Gambhir and Kohli are very immature to take over the captaincy of the team since the performance of Gambhir is his career worst in the tests and Kohli is in bad form at the moment.

I agree with you, Sachin should retire now parmanently. He should give chane to Youngstars of IPL. Sehvag is ok for few days. Else BCCI should ask him to go out.

People who SHOULD go out from the test team:
Sachin, Zaheer, Yuvraj, Dhoni

Media is saying Yuvraj should not be criticized because he recovered now. Why this emotional approach?

Dhoni

I don't think there is any alternative for Dhoni immediately for our team a captain. It is not right to change the captain when team's moral is down. Mohinder Amarnath had said Dhoni is not a Test batsman. He should not forget that there are six batsmen prior to him in the side who are taken exclusively for batting. Dhoni is a wicket keeper and Captain. He did not fail as wicket keeper. Most of us think that Test means you have to be defensive only which curbs natural instincts of a few good players like Sehwag, Yuvraj and Dhoni who are natural stroke players. If these players play their natural aggressive game in Tests India has good chance of putting up a big score and also much of the time would be available to skittle the opposition out. The way these three batsmen got out in the recently lost Test was pathetic. I blame Duncan Fletcher for not advising players to face the situation correctly. He concentrates more on his Laptop than our players. First replace him with a good coach like Gary Kirsten.

When Ganguly himself was technically very poor when facing speedsters from abroad how can he coach our players. Coaching is not an easy job that anybody can do.

Match practice befor series starts
by rajiv on Dec 11, 2012 10:38 AM  | Hide replies

It is said that England got 3 practice matches and they acclimatized with conditions and that's why they are doing good.
I say - when we went to England we got 2 practice matches before tests started. So, let us count first two tests also as practice marches and ignore the results. Now you have more than enough practice to your credit..What happened in Test number 3 and 4? You lost them too.
These are just excuses.
Real reason is our players don't apply themselves, have no fighting spirit and determination. That's totally lacking. They play for public glamor and money.

You said right. IPL has killed cricket in India. Cricketers have become greedy and administrators have become money hungry.
