Who is the oldest player to play in a World Cup??
by Manu Zach on Mar 29, 2011 08:29 PM

Was he 43 years old???
If he was, then there is a scope for a new record if India doesn't win this edition of the World Cup.

Legacy of Ricky Ponting
by chatter on Mar 29, 2011 02:48 PM  | Hide replies

Ricky Ponting will go down in the record books as one of the most successful captains in the history of the game, but his success was really the result of a team of champions he inherited from his predecessor Steve Waugh.

This team was crafted over the years by people like Steve Waugh and before him Mark Taylor and Alan Border who saw talent in those talents and encouraged and supported them.

Once these talented players grew old and left the game, the true worth of Ricky Ponting's leadership qualities began to get exposed. He lost the Ashes series twice in England and finally at home. Now he has lost the World Cup.

Rick Ponting has rarely come across as a great ambassador of the game. He has always appeared to be a churlish, mean spirited person, quite willing to stoop to the lowqest levels in order to win a game. The Australians called it gamesmanship - the world calls it cheating. Under Ponting the Australians were always most ungracious in defeat and quite insufferable in victory.

Rick Ponting will never go down as one of the great captains of world cricket - like say, in the recent past, people like Clive Lloyd or Imran Khan or even our own Saurav Ganguly (I know a lot of my own countrymen will be crucifying me for naming Ganguly in the same breath). These are guys who took over their national teams in times of distress and turned them into world beaters.

As a captain, Ricky Ponting has contributed nothing to the game.

Nice to know that Indian teams after 1983 have been worthless.... speaking of which, what exactly were you talking about "world beater" Ganguly? :)

Legacy of Ponting??
No one in the entire cricketing world has the right to question the legacy of Ricky Ponting.
First try and achieve even a quarter of what Ponting has achieved both as a player and captain. Then vomit the filthy clichs like 'cheating', great ambassador', world beaters'. etc..
Ricky Ponting is the most successful player and captain in the history of both Test and ODI cricket. That is a fact.

Good Bye to the most envied player of all time..
by Junior Shelly on Mar 29, 2011 02:17 PM

Some call him a cheat, as if he has scored all those runs and won all those matches by using some trick which others can't see.
Some say he won 2 world cups as captain just by walking out to the ground ahead of his illustrious team mates.
He has achieved what no other human being who have picked up a cricket bat or ball has ever could.
A fierce competitor who excelled under pressure, and led his team to victory both as captain and as a batsman.
Hate him, curse him, envy him....no matter what his detractors say....Ricky Thomas Ponting is the Greatest after the Don himself...
Peace.

One reason why ..
by mahak on Mar 29, 2011 01:55 PM

One reason why Sachin could fast-forward his Century making spree in last 2-3 years, Ponting was very close to sachins heel in terms of number of centuries (in ODI and TEST). Here is contrasting 2-3 years for this 2 guys. as Sachin accelerated with vengeance his form and his cricket heights, ponting slipped and u see gap.

I think Ponting shud be there in cricket to really fight as possible again to reach he mark of sachins. Or else sachin may hang up.. bo..s.

he was lucky

he was also lucky to captain the team which consisted of these 7 players (Gilchrist,Hayden,Symmonds,Bevan,M.Hussey,McGrath,Warne,Lee), Absence of most of these players's services are outcomes of australia's last 2 year's performances and also this world cup. He got a Ready made team of greats. Even Shakib all hassan of bangladesh wud have been g8 captain if he had above 7 caliber performing playerss.

:) But you are sure Ganguly and Dravid and Kumble would have still lost to Bangladesh even if they had those 7 players (which Bangladesh obviously did NOT have in 2007)... . Right? :)

Chirag P:

And how would Shakib Al Hasan have done as captain if he had Sehwag, Sachin, Yuvi, Kohli, Pathan and Raina all firing for him? :)

Obviously Dhoni is a useless captain - is the verdict out here... isn't it? :)

How talented do you think Gilchrist, hayden, Bevan, M. Hussey etc. are when compared to Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, VVS Laxman, Mohd. Azharuddin???
What the heck happened with all those 'world class' teams???

Vasco Disco- India did well, even better than this WC till now in 2003 WC which was in SA. so dont say our team coward. asian pitches are generally like this only. for your kind information, Mohali pitch is pace bowler friendly and india is playing there.

THEN,Why Cannot ganguly beat australia when he met twice in 2003 world cup BECAUSE HE WAS AFRAID OF PONTING THE GREAT.Then i think sachin, ganguly, dravid, shewag is a waste players in indian team & not better than gilly, hayden, ponting etc...
why can't any team in the world have not won a single match against austalia in world cup in last two editions... ha ha ha because its punters great captaincy
THEN INDIAN TEAM IS WASTE COMPARING TO AUSTRALIA'S LAST TWO EDITION SQUAD RIGHT

WASTE PLAYERS:SACHIN, DRAVID, GANGULY, LAXMAN, SHEWAG EVERY ONE IS WASTE NOT WON A SINGLE WORLDCUP FOR INDIA

Watson should be the new captain...
by Raj India on Mar 29, 2011 12:40 PM

I think, Shane Watson should be the ideal replacement for Ricky Ponting as he is young as well as a good alrounder in good touch...
