Some people always show off their values they have got from their parents. They dont have any family values or sentiments. I can only say 'upbrining matters'.
Don't take this to heart, ignore such types of well worth individuals

Round Robin format is the right way to decide the World Champions
by sicher on Feb 21, 2011 09:56 AM  | Hide replies

Each team should play against each team 2 times one at home and another at away. The table topper should be crowned as World Champions. While deciding the world champions, The elimination rounds should not be there.F

thats true but ICC are too thick to realize it , they want to milk out cricket as much as possible through meaningless games.

champion side
by THANKACHAN SKARIA on Feb 21, 2011 09:38 AM

Though not at their best, still I bat for Australia to win this WC as they are capable of upsetting other big teams and their bowling is better than India.

This is not a World Cup!
by VASUDEVAN V on Feb 21, 2011 09:38 AM  | Hide replies

By any stretch of imagination, it is not a world cup. It is just a 6-Nation cup. Of the 14, five are there just to make up the numbers - Kenya, Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Canada and Ireland. Of the rest 9, Bangladesh is the eternal punching bag of the big six. Cricket is in terminal decline in New Zealand and West Indies. Thus, it is just a 6-Nation Cup. It is being blown out of proportion in India, occupying eternal TV time. And the irony is that the Indian Team is not trying to win the World Cup for the people of the country but for an individual who is treated as bigger than the game. That is why Australia has won the 6-Nation Cup 4 times while India won it just once in 1983 when the players played for the country!

every cup is 10-12 nations cup , just like football world cup is 10 nations cup , all the other teams there too are just given qualification for the sake of it not that they have any chance of winning the cup.

Good joke. This proves you do not even know how many nations play the qualifying rounds in football and finally how many qualify for the World Cup. Just for your kind information, 208 nations play the qualifiying rounds. Some of the European Nations even fail to qualify for the
World Cup. Football is not a game confined a handful of Asian and Commonwealth nations. Probably for you `world' starts and ends with the cricket playing nations!

Mr Vsudevan
You might not be aware that more than 100 countries play for the 4-5 minnow spots that are on offer in the cricket world cup , please go and search about Icc qualifiers . And anyways you said in cricket world cup , 5 teams are there for the sake of filling up the numbers , am in complete agreement with that since those teams dont have chance to win the world cup and are there just for gaining experience , same way around 20 countries in every fifa world cup are not strong contenders , they are just to fill the number only , qualification in 32 is achievement for them , but that doesnt mean football world cup is a battle of 32 nations , 10 of those nations are superior to rest of 22 nations , dont u know 7 teams keep on winning the world cup again and again , so where is the chance of rest of 201 nations.?

google " icc world cup qualifiers" and check it out , why dont you think in one tournament we see countries such as namibia and afghanistan while in others we do not , even countries like uganda , swaziland , lesotho have there cricket teams but they are very low standard teams hence not good enough to qualify for the world cup.

in fifa, out of the 32 teams, aren't 25 of them just to make up numbers? you think, s.korea or iraq ever has a chance of winning?
in the last sixty years of fifa WC, only 7 teams have won the wc. out of that france, england and spain have won it one time each. rest of years, the wc was won by either italy/germany/brazil/argentina. is that competition?

then by your logis , football is also a tournament of Brazil/Argentina/Italy/Spain/England/France/Germany? It means a 7 nations cup since they keep winning it again and again , Has any african or north american or asian country even won the football world cup? where is the competition?its only competition between europe and south america who always beat each other to lift the trophy

Why minnows should not be part of WC
by anand datar on Feb 21, 2011 09:37 AM

1. The standard of cricket played by minnows is too low. It becomes a mismatch when they play against top teams.

2. It becomes very easy for top teams and players to create historical records against them dwarfing really good records made earlier amongst top teams and players. It's not fair.

Every team was a minnow in the beggining
by mohan on Feb 21, 2011 09:37 AM  | Hide replies

Each and every team was a minnow to begin with.

Why hit out at low ranked teams ?

After all, didn't Australia lose to minnow Zimbabwe in 1983 ? Didn't West Indies lose twice to low ranked India in 1983 ? Didn't Bangladesh not oust India in 2007 WC ?

Come on Ponting. Put up with it.

Mohan:

Excellent comment. India in 1983 was a team comparable to Canada or Kenya of today... Well said... :)

I also like your optimism to see Canada, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Ireland go through into the Quarter Finals... keep up the sentiment and wish that 2015 World Cup has another dozen minnows added... After all, a short month and a half world cup should definitely be expanded into a 6 monthly affair... :)

Few teams in world cup
by Anil Kulkarni on Feb 21, 2011 09:22 AM

Yes, he is aboslutely right. Such tournments are the the learning place for these weak teams. They get hammered and the opposite teammates get unwarranted records. ICC should arrange a separate tournament for these teams so that the WC becomes a serious affair right from the beginning. I think WC should start with the
Quarter finals wherein only six or eight team play and each gets a chance to play with other for at least twice.

Cricket vs Football
by Vishwas Joshi on Feb 21, 2011 09:19 AM  | Hide replies

I seeing both Football and Cricket world cup since 1985. I feel cricket is more attractive sports. You dont know what will happen the next ball - It might be bold, six, four, bouncer, drop catch, brilliant catch, runout anything is possible where as in football only there can be one goal. They play 90 mins just passing ball from one player to another - I feel how people think that is attractive. Any one can learn to play football in 2 mins but to learn how to hold a bat or bowl a ball it might takes weeks.

that's very correct, a guy will run from some distance and throw the ball at all his might and the batsman will just defend it and then shows some action like how well he defended it, now what a surpise. Ja jake apna sar kujao.

Not to dis-respect you, but Football is a great skillful game than cricket. If you develop interest, you will see the skills involved.

Do you know FIFA has more countries registered than UN ? It is a truly global game.. played excellently by smallest of the countries.

Pls watch some of the leagues played in Europe.. you will understand more.

Thats true and thats why its more tough to develop cricket skills ,
waiting 90 minutes to watch 1 goal or sometimes no goal is so boring. Football is over-rated.

similarily watching a nail biting tight cricket match is better than watching 90 minutes of match which mostly ends with 0-0.

I totally agree with Ponting. Minnnows have no place in world cup. They are waste of time and money. They are not going to do any spectacular. They may win a match here or there but that doesnt mean they going do any spectacular. In fact Ahmedabad no one is interested in watching the match between Australia and zimbabwe
