Football no doubt is the only sport in the world which is global in the real sense but if you see closely there is no such thing as competition between 200 countries , even if you trim the competition down to 10 nations , u wud still find the deserving winner.
Not even a single asian team is better than any of the european countries but they are given qualification through the asian bloc quota , south africa were not good enough to be in top32 teams yet they were given qualification only because they were a host nation.
Asian countries get thrashed 8-0 and 7-0 by european teams in the world cup , where is the competition? the day these teams start qualifying regularly or winning matches , then we can say there is competition.

football is very popular in india.. still its not able to qualify for world cup.. leave qualification.. india is not even in top-100 in football.. china also able to qualify just once... i can give u n no. of examples and logics to prove my point..
Re: Re: Re: Re: Football
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:16 AM
yes football is popular in every country of the world , am i denying it? am not , am saying not just india , it is popular everywhere but that doesnt mean there is competition involved between all the coutnries that take interest. you know if they want to find the real winner they can still trim the cup to 12 nations and the winner would still come out , rest of the 188 nations dont matter.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Football

in football, even world cup winner scared of dis-qualifying.. bcoz its really tough...

So if he is wrong why can India not qualify for a single FIFA world cup? FYI - Greece, a strong European soccer nation, was very handsomely beaten by Korea in the last soccer WC.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Football
by Indranil Chowdhury on Feb 21, 2011 12:30 AM
The levels of competition in the football world cup and cricket cannot be compared. Also there is a very deep difference - that is the passion with which the game is played. Where is the passion? Canada competing here is even worse than our football team playing in the Asia cup. I dont know about Kenya, but I dont think if Canada or Holland was seriously trying they would do so badly. They are really good sporting nations, but have come here to play cricket without any passion. It is a team of a few Indian exapatriates.

@ bango tango
and football qualifiers are played by footballing giants right? I mean footballing giants like , honduras , chile , switzerland , china , korea , iran , iraq , korea , greece , south africa , namibia ?
I know about bas , cricket gives no money in netherlands but thats because its not popular , football is popular worldwid e but that doesnt mean anyone from 200 coutnries can win the cup , only repeat only 7 nations have won the trophy , and at most only 10 nations have strong football teams. rest are all minnows.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Football
by Indranil Chowdhury on Feb 21, 2011 12:17 AM
I am asking you. You seem to be comparing the levels of competition in cricket and football.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Football
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:32 AM
sorry indranil , canada is a ice hockey crazy nation , and its cricket team is full of asians but netherlands have 90% homegrown guys , same for ireland , ireland play a sport known as hurling but cricket is as famous as hockey is in india.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Football
by bango tango on Feb 21, 2011 12:19 AM
@javier...dont make a fool of yourself....Cricket qualifiers are played by minnow countries who hardly follow cricket nor cricket is their bread n butter... for exa: Bas Zuiderent from Holland is a doctor which is his main profession.. or say the team of Canada which is almost represented by exptriates from sub-continent ,Jamaica, Uganada....Out of the 14 teams in the WC , 7 seem to be strong teams... On contrary, Football is played in almost all countries and is popular in more than 100 countries...THE MAIN POINT IS FOOTBALL QUALIFIERS ARE SO STRONG THAT YOU CAN TERM THEM AS MINI WORLD CUPS....remember that only 12 teams from Europe only qualify to the WC ...
u can expect that every team in football WC will give a tough fight in each n every match unlike cricket in which results are almost predictable...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Football
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:33 AM
indrnail by your very same logic , kenya very handomly beat sri lanka in 2003 world cup and windies in 1996 world cup , even they become cricket decent teams with your logic.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Football
by Indranil Chowdhury on Feb 21, 2011 12:46 AM
You definitely cannot compare Korea playing strong football and Kenya playing strong cricket. Korea infact has a very strong footballing arena which can challenge even Spain and Italy. They play strong football. Does Kenya play strong cricket? I am talking about playing strong cricket. Bangladesh definitely plays strong competitive cricket, so they are fun to watch even if they get beaten, maybe even Ireland. Kenya is simply not playing strong cricket at this point of time maybe at some point in the past they did. But not now. Perhaps Zimbabwe is the same story - so why include them in the world cup? These games mean nothing. Even if the Indian football team lost 7-0 to Australia but they played strong football that demonstrated their hard work and skill, I would watch them. The way India plays now - why should I watch them? Do you watch them? Kenya is the same story. They might have put in some real effort in the past but not this WC. There should have been a better screening before putting up this fluke show. Peace.
Re: Football
by bango tango on Feb 21, 2011 12:33 AM
How many teams participating in WC cricket has a cricket culture ???? only india, pak,sl .... Almost all the teams which qualify Football WC is a crazy football following nation..
Absolutely true....it will be so boring for the viweresa s well as players to play such junk matches and waste their time and energy... almost like a curse
Re: Re: wc
by Indranil Chowdhury on Feb 21, 2011 12:16 AM
Cricket is not popular outside subcontinent. But still it is attractive to watch. That does not excuse us however from doing badly in all other sports. Are we afraid of competition or just denying it?
Re: Re: Re: wc
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:19 AM
and its a myth that football is popular everywhere around the world , its not even a top5 sport in countries like canada , usa , china , russia where other sports dominate but means life to many in england and italy ,
Re: Re: Re: Re: wc
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:26 AM
playing and popularity are two different things , even england play cricket that doesnt mean it is anywhere near the popularity of football in england , even usa just for the sake of qualifying , plays soccer in world cup , that doesnt mean soccer is not boring to americans , americans love baseball , basketball , hockey , and there own american football , soccer is nowhere , same with china , even indoor sports such as badminton and ping pong are more popular than soccer lol.
basketball comes nowhere close to soccer in china , yeha bigger than criket but still nothing.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: wc
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:45 AM
football is popular everywhere but there are many countries in the world where it is not even top 5 sport , its a life only for poor nations of south america and africa.
Superpowers are busy in winning olympic medals and not in some world cup of soccer.
Every nation(who ever plays cricket)wants to play in worldcup and they should...Through that only the cricket mania will spread....Minnows also plays well...it should by defeating India,Pakistan...in the past.... I pray God tommorow Zim should win against the Aus.

Mmp:
;-) In the next WC there should be teams from Brunei, Egypt, East Timor, Peru, Norway, Uzbekistan, Vatican and 33 others. :-) Hopefully it will finish in time before the next one begins. ;-)
I have to agree with this ranger. What is the point in having these matches where there is hardly any contest. Even if some minnows are included the world cup should see some contest. Whoever imagined this stupid format just took all contest out of it. We are yet to see any real competition there.
Re: world cup?????????
by javier on Feb 20, 2011 11:10 PM
even football has only 9-10 decent nations who win the cup time and time again. have u ever seen honduras , chile , switzerland , turkey , korea , japan , iran , iraq , saudi arabia , nz , australia , south africa , ivory coast winning the soccer world cup?
Re: Re: world cup?????????
by attacker on Feb 20, 2011 11:17 PM
by not winning world cup in football doesnt make them minnow.. football is very competitive played over 200 countris. in football, india is not even in top - 100 still india has a craze for football... in kenya, canada hardly few people will be interested in cricket.. in more than 100 countries, people dont even know that a cricket world cup is taking place.. lol
Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by ad on Feb 20, 2011 11:32 PM
@attacker. the same teams win the world cup over and over again. all the asian teams are crap, including iran, s. korea, japan and saudi arabia. when was the last time a wc was won by anyone other than the top7 teams? regular winners: spain(chokers), italy, germany, brazil, france, argentina and may be england out of 200 countries.just because it is played in 200 countries doesn't mean all are good at it.
Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by javier on Feb 20, 2011 11:22 PM
yes south korea were betaen 8-0 by not a european superpower like portugal and u wud say it wasnt a minnow? dream on man , if a top32 country is beaten like that , then whats the situation in rest of the 32 countries ? and i will tell you one thing here , the day india develops as an olympic nation , they will giv two hoots about football , countries that excel at olympics dont give a damn about football , look at china and usa , so dont ever expect india will start playing football and will be satisfied with a 50 rankings .
and countries like north america , rich ones like canada , usa dont have any craze for football either , while poor ones in argentina , brazil they think its there life , same in africa.
Re: Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by attacker on Feb 20, 2011 11:37 PM
as per ur logic, india is also minnow in cricket as they lost badly in last world cup. football craze is everywhere in the world. i dont need to prove it... usually strong and big nations like china, usa involved in multiple sports that does not mean they dont have craze for football..
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by javier on Feb 20, 2011 11:42 PM
But India have won the 83 finals , and recent 2007 finals , what logic are you talking about? just as u dismiss teams like zimbabwe and kenya as minnows i agree and u shud also dismiss teams like south korea , honduras , south africa , chile , greece as minnows , saudi rabia was thrashed 7-0 in 2003 world cup by germany , is that a strong competitior? sorry not mate , and regarding football in usa and china , go check on googla and find out which sports are they interested in , soccer isnt even in top5 in usa, am not saying that football is a very big game but if u say there is very big competition involved , then sorry its not , only 7 teams out of 200 , have had the chance to win the cup , what about the rest 193 nations?
Re: Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by Nagaraj on Feb 21, 2011 12:06 AM
Germany, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland,UAE, Kuwait, Saudi and many more are poor countries.if you go by Javier's argument
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:11 AM
mr nagaraj , football is not worshipped in sweden , ok? now google and find out the fact that even moutaineering is a bigger sport compared to football in sweden , and yes with respect to poor nations , compare canada , usa , china to south american nations like brazil/argentina /africa. football is a cheap game ,e asily accessible hence people in third n 4th world are such a big fans of it , look at usa , they have such expensive sports that they regard soccer as a third world sport , and offcourse they dont even know about what cricket is
Re: Re: world cup?????????
by Nagaraj on Feb 20, 2011 11:19 PM
what a silly argument! why is it then a country of 1 billion people is not able to get qualified even? And who gets qualified into Cricket World Cup. Any country whether cricket is popular there or not, in fact many of their countrymen may not even know what cricket is. You need just a bunch of amateur players and you got a berth in the world cup LOL
Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by javier on Feb 20, 2011 11:26 PM
two countries with a billion population , means 2 billion population are missing from participation from soccer world cup , means 2 billion out of 6 billion missing , just 2 countries from asia playing and u call it a world cup? it should be called a european-south american cup as well , since only those nations win it again n again n again .
Re: Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by attacker on Feb 20, 2011 11:42 PM
u have cracked a joke of the month! those 32 countries are qualified.. in football, qualification itself is 10 times competitor than cricket world cup..
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by javier on Feb 20, 2011 11:49 PM
i think you are making a fake hype about qualification , I mean so whats if its qualification? not even a single asian team can be tough competitior at football world cup and sya there is tough compeition involved ? 200 countries ? china qualified only 1 once in 80 years and u say tough compeition involved? only european countries do well in football , there is mostly competition between europe and south america , rets of the other countries are just there for mere participation , tell me when anyone from north america , africa , gulf , asia , africa won the tournament? there are 80 students in a class giving the exam but the top 10 students score 90 % more than the rest of 70 students and u say there is competition between all 80 students?
Re: Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by Nagaraj on Feb 21, 2011 12:08 AM
if quantity is what matters n not quality, should one argue further? Man, for a billion people, how many olympic medals we get? That is our quality.
Re: Re: world cup?????????

Javier is an armchair critic and doesn't understand football at all ...that's why he is comparing Football WC which is the most watched event globally and this cricket WC ...played by 6 nations...forgive him guys ..
Re: Re: Re: world cup?????????
by javier on Feb 20, 2011 11:34 PM
I have seen more football than what you freaks have ever seen , the thing is there is strong competition only between 10-12 teams in soccer world cup as well , just as in cricket the competition is in between 6-7 nations , just because more minnows are included in football world cup doesnt mean there is more competition , otherwise we will see equal disctirbution of success in football for more nations , but the world cup is only won by 7 teams , brazil won it 5 times , germany thrice , italy 4 , that takes away 80% of the titles in football ,
