Football no doubt is the only sport in the world which is global in the real sense but if you see closely there is no such thing as competition between 200 countries , even if you trim the competition down to 10 nations , u wud still find the deserving winner.

Not even a single asian team is better than any of the european countries but they are given qualification through the asian bloc quota , south africa were not good enough to be in top32 teams yet they were given qualification only because they were a host nation.

Asian countries get thrashed 8-0 and 7-0 by european teams in the world cup , where is the competition? the day these teams start qualifying regularly or winning matches , then we can say there is competition.

yes football is popular in every country of the world , am i denying it? am not , am saying not just india , it is popular everywhere but that doesnt mean there is competition involved between all the coutnries that take interest. you know if they want to find the real winner they can still trim the cup to 12 nations and the winner would still come out , rest of the 188 nations dont matter.

So if he is wrong why can India not qualify for a single FIFA world cup? FYI - Greece, a strong European soccer nation, was very handsomely beaten by Korea in the last soccer WC.

The levels of competition in the football world cup and cricket cannot be compared. Also there is a very deep difference - that is the passion with which the game is played. Where is the passion? Canada competing here is even worse than our football team playing in the Asia cup. I dont know about Kenya, but I dont think if Canada or Holland was seriously trying they would do so badly. They are really good sporting nations, but have come here to play cricket without any passion. It is a team of a few Indian exapatriates.

@ bango tango

and football qualifiers are played by footballing giants right? I mean footballing giants like , honduras , chile , switzerland , china , korea , iran , iraq , korea , greece , south africa , namibia ?

I know about bas , cricket gives no money in netherlands but thats because its not popular , football is popular worldwid e but that doesnt mean anyone from 200 coutnries can win the cup , only repeat only 7 nations have won the trophy , and at most only 10 nations have strong football teams. rest are all minnows.

@javier...dont make a fool of yourself....Cricket qualifiers are played by minnow countries who hardly follow cricket nor cricket is their bread n butter...
for exa: Bas Zuiderent from Holland is a doctor which is his main profession.. or say the team of Canada which is almost represented by exptriates from sub-continent ,Jamaica, Uganada....Out of the 14 teams in the WC , 7 seem to be strong teams...
On contrary, Football is played in almost all countries and is popular in more than 100 countries...THE MAIN POINT IS FOOTBALL QUALIFIERS ARE SO STRONG THAT YOU CAN TERM THEM AS MINI WORLD CUPS....remember that only 12 teams from Europe only qualify to the WC ...

u can expect that every team in football WC will give a tough fight in each n every match unlike cricket in which results are almost predictable...

You definitely cannot compare Korea playing strong football and Kenya playing strong cricket. Korea infact has a very strong footballing arena which can challenge even Spain and Italy. They play strong football. Does Kenya play strong cricket? I am talking about playing strong cricket. Bangladesh definitely plays strong competitive cricket, so they are fun to watch even if they get beaten, maybe even Ireland. Kenya is simply not playing strong cricket at this point of time maybe at some point in the past they did. But not now. Perhaps Zimbabwe is the same story - so why include them in the world cup? These games mean nothing. Even if the Indian football team lost 7-0 to Australia but they played strong football that demonstrated their hard work and skill, I would watch them. The way India plays now - why should I watch them? Do you watch them? Kenya is the same story. They might have put in some real effort in the past but not this WC. There should have been a better screening before putting up this fluke show. Peace.

playing and popularity are two different things , even england play cricket that doesnt mean it is anywhere near the popularity of football in england , even usa just for the sake of qualifying , plays soccer in world cup , that doesnt mean soccer is not boring to americans , americans love baseball , basketball , hockey , and there own american football , soccer is nowhere , same with china , even indoor sports such as badminton and ping pong are more popular than soccer lol.

basketball comes nowhere close to soccer in china , yeha bigger than criket but still nothing.

I have to agree with this ranger. What is the point in having these matches where there is hardly any contest. Even if some minnows are included the world cup should see some contest. Whoever imagined this stupid format just took all contest out of it. We are yet to see any real competition there.

and countries like north america , rich ones like canada , usa dont have any craze for football either , while poor ones in argentina , brazil they think its there life , same in africa.

am not saying that football is a very big game but if u say there is very big competition involved , then sorry its not , only 7 teams out of 200 , have had the chance to win the cup , what about the rest 193 nations?

I have seen more football than what you freaks have ever seen , the thing is there is strong competition only between 10-12 teams in soccer world cup as well , just as in cricket the competition is in between 6-7 nations , just because more minnows are included in football world cup doesnt mean there is more competition , otherwise we will see equal disctirbution of success in football for more nations , but the world cup is only won by 7 teams , brazil won it 5 times , germany thrice , italy 4 , that takes away 80% of the titles in football ,
