Ponting doesn't know that 'minnows' could earn Oziz points to go to quarter finals.

Dsouza:
Yeah.. you have a point... :) If the minnows were NOT there then Aussies could not have moved into the Semis and some other top 4 teams would have done that... :)
you've got to love the positive attitude aussies bring to their game and attitude. Look at Ponting, he doesnt want to defend the world cup title, he wants to win it. that sort of mental attitude goes a long way in tough situations.
They are one of my favorites to be in semi-finals alongwith SA, India and SL.
I have been watching cricket world cup from 1996 and football world cup from 2002 , have never missed a single significant match in all these world cups.
But i have to admit that football world cup is more attractive and less boring compared to cricket world cup.

Cricket and Football both are different games. Compare football with American football. atleast both are near similar games.

american football is similar to rugby...not the traditional football we all know of. Rugger football is the oldest game on this planet.

I too stop my argument with Javier-it was fun. I must watch the Barcelona - Athletic match now. Cheers
Re: Re: Javier...
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 01:01 AM
why watch it indranil when barcelona is not only gonna win this match but also the spanish cup? why waste time in sports with zero unpredictilbity? a barcelona v/s madrid match would be good , different arguement for different sports i see
Yes Ponting, Minnows have no place in the WC and considering that your time's up and your team is full of people with false egos and attitudes, its better you have a 6 odi and 3 test series with the likes of canada, zimbabwe, ireland, netherlands, etc.
Re: Ponting you are right, so what are you doing here?
by aaaa bbbb on Feb 21, 2011 08:29 AM
nonsense... u can have ego and include tendus and harbhajans? why not the real winner of WC?

I know , because i follow all sports in which india plays , i dont follow only that european bullcrap soccer which is liked more for its glamour and less for love of game ,

i feel sorry India is not included even amongst the tom dick harries of football world cup qualified. pls dont say we dont care. there will be a jubilation all over the country, more than winning a funny cricket world cup,if at all we get qualified in FIFA cup
Re: Re: Re: wt a comment by Xavier :-)
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:48 AM
maybe for u nagaraj , but there is no money in indian soccer , shows what a small ant it is in front of cricket
Re: Re: Re: Re: wt a comment by Xavier :-)
by Nagaraj on Feb 21, 2011 12:52 AM
unfortunately, india is a small ant when it comes to international games (i mean truly international). so it hardly matters for the world whether cricket is a religion in india. For them we r poor sporting nation inspite of hving a billion people
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: wt a comment by Xavier :-)
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:59 AM
different for every country , usa have more love for there own american games like baseball , basketball which are mostly us -based game than a global fifa world cup qualification.
indians have had very big attachment with cricket , if people are satisfied and entertained who gives a crap about what others think? enjoy football but stop putting cricket down.

bango tango u will never see losers supporting the hockey team which desrved more support from the country but even looser is dreaming about qualifying in fifa world cup just for its glamour and hype.

may be the reverse is true.. hocky team has no big success in recent times.so people has no interest..and per market dynamics no money is thr.. people love and follow success. money follows success..not the other way round.. Cricketers also had tough time before the golden era of 1983-1987. after we got some success.. then it became a different story altogether..
Re: I Guess
by attacker on Feb 21, 2011 12:33 AM
i forgive him for his ignorance. football qualification is even more competitive than cricket world cup..
Re: Re: I Guess
by ad on Feb 21, 2011 03:18 AM
dude, foot ball is not a competitive sport. asian teams compete with each other for qualification. they don't compete against s.american or european teams for qualification. there are 4 spots available for asia in the wc, and the same teams qualify every single time. where is the competition in that? have you seen the odds the bookies offer for India or Indonesia to qualify for the world cup. If you bet a hundred dollars, and if India qualifies, you would be a millionaire. and you call that competition?
Re: Re: I Guess
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:36 AM
football will always suck in india , your licking footballs ass wont develop it in india , olympic sports are coming up , once they develop no1 in india will give two hoots about soccer , it will give them more pride than qualifying in a cup which is dominated by 8-9 nations , look at china and usa and russia , they dont even care about football or its world cup , thats how we should look forward to , olympics are the real deal.
Re: Re: Re: I Guess
by Indranil Chowdhury on Feb 21, 2011 12:51 AM
This is just another way of saying we will just not compete. I dont understand how you cite USA and Russia as non-soccer playing countries. Russia infact is very soccer loving, USA is not soccer-loving but they have a strong soccer league. And all of China USA and soccer, with all their ignorance of football, can beat us with B graded teams.

by bango tango on Feb 21, 2011 12:38 AM
"look at china and usa and russia "------ hahahahaaaaaaaaaa...hehehheeeeeeeeeeee...hohohoooooooooooooo....
seems u r really a fool...hahahaa..
thats y Russia was desperate to win the bid for 2018 WC and they got it ...
Re: Re: Re: Re: I Guess
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:42 AM
yeah india is also desperate to host olympic and asian games , does it mean india have a huge appetite for olympic sports , remember the words from sep blatter , he said he wants to spread football to new quarters of the world hence he choose qatar and russia over others , take some indication from that about presently how big football is in russia , and dont u know in 1994 football wc was in usa , but still its not even a top 5 sport in the usa , do u want proof about status of football in usa?
Re: Re: Re: I Guess
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:39 AM
and even if they had qualified what they would have done in the tournament? would they won the tournament? how did it changed the tournament? you are talking as if some brazil , italy or germany didnt qualify for world cup . it doesnt matter if afghanistan or namibia qualify for the world cup of cricket or not , they are just minnows anyways.
Re: Re: Re: Re: I Guess
by bango tango on Feb 21, 2011 12:43 AM
but it doesnt mean that Sweden,Bulagaria,Denmark wont give a tough fight or will make a match boring n predictable...
in cricket, u can say 1000 days earlier if its a minnow team...
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I Guess
by javier on Feb 21, 2011 12:52 AM
yes yes u r right they will give a little bit of tough fight , but remember last time we were knocked out out of cup by a minnow , same for pakistan by hands of ireland = another minnow , 1996 , kenya defeated indies , zimbabwe have defated teams like india , sa in world cup , upsets happen , and they sometimes change the face of tournament but minnows remain minnows , we cant include bangladesh , kenya , ireland as strong competeitive teams just as football has so many minnows
