What is so great about Ponting???A Good aussie batsman,Right?
by Saaani Mrichie on Nov 29, 2012 08:45 PM

Shame that indian media and some vested interests are doing the sachin-bashing for helping some vested interests! Shame Indians are so good in pulling down their own heroes and legends and a player like Sachin comes only once in 500 years, perhaps???Get some reality checks, folks!Ponting is nobody compared to our legend Sachin for the simple reason that Sachin had to face the fiery bowling of aussies and other countries too and still score 100 centuries! while Ponting or Bradman had the privilege and good lcuk of NOT facing the fiery aussie pace attack and they had the added luxury of facing indian bowlers and score centuries as they want! Further all the umpires were very kind to all white skinned players and very cruel with Sachin and coloured players and so many times Sachin has been given out wrongly ba bad umpiring decisions too! Hope all world and cricket fans will realize now why Sachin is greater than Bradman and Ponting and Others!

What is so great about ponting, folks???What is the Big Deal, folks??? not only sachin, even our sunny, kapil and dravid are 100 times better than
these guys who have become big by playing useless indian pace and spin bowling while indian batsmen had to face fiery aussie bowling and aussie players of course were lucky not to face the aussie pacers and spinners!shame so much undue praise is given to non-indian cricketers for the above reason!

EVEN WITHOUTH ABSENCE OF STAR PLAYERS ROCKY PONTING MANAGED TO BEAT INDIA IN ONE DAYERS WITH A FRESH TEAM AND HE ALSO WON THE CHAMPIONS TROPHY

DONT FORGET IN THE LAST WORLD CUP ,BEFORE THE WORLD CUP STARTED THEY LOST 5 ONE DAYERS IN A ROW BUT YET MANAGED TO WIN WORLD CUP..

WINNING IN INDIA IS NO GREAT ACHIEVEMENT AS INDIANS MAKE ALL THE CONDITIONS FAVOURIBLE TO THEM..

IF AUS HAD ONE THE FIRST TEST MATCH ALL WOULD BE PRAISING RICKY INSTEAD OF BASHING HIM

SACHIN DOES NOT CARE OF WINNING FOR INDIA..IF HE CARED HE WOULD NEVER GIVE UP AS CAPTAIN AND KEEP TRYING BUT HE GAVE UP FOR PERSONAL RECORDS..

EVEN TODAY INDIA WON WITHOUTH SACHIN..SO SACHIN IS NOT AT ALL REQUIRED..

Still there are fools who say "India has only batting wickets .. so no big deal scoring on Indian wickets". Please check your facts. Over the last 15-18 years of test cricket played in India, 70% of the matches have had a result(India either wins or looses, but that is besides the point. Moreover, I am not considering matches that have had a close finish or matches that have been abandoned – u cannot blame the pitches for these matches). We all know that for a team to win matches, they need to get at least 20 wickets. Assuming that on an average, around 30-35 wickets fall in a match that has a result, we must realize that for 70% of the matches, there are 6-7 wickets falling EVERYDAY in a test match. Then how on earth does one say that Indian wickets are 'batsmen friendly'.. this is absolute rubbish. If Indian wickets are batsmen friendly, why are batsmen outside the subcontinent not able to score in India(what is Pontings average in India?). I would agree if someone says India has 'spinning tracks' and Indian batsmen score because of familiar conditions, but that is the case with all countries. Can u expect a 'spinning track' in Australia, England, SA or New Zealand? Every country plays to its advantage. Just because Indians also have pitches to their advantage what is wrong? If winning in India is no great achievement for Indians, well winning in Australia is no great achievement for Australia either.

BTW: I am not saying Australia is a bad side. But when you compare, you cannot have double standards.
You say “Ponting won the one day series 4-2 with a depleted side” and you also say “If Australia had won the 1st test match in Mohali…. etc etc” – Well, the 4-2 victory was also very evenly contested. Atleast 2 matches could have gone either ways(Harbhajan almost won the 1st match for India, Sachin scored a brilliant 175 in Hyd and the rest of the team chocked). If India had been lucky, WE would have won 4-2 and not Australia. Moreover, we should have won the Sydney match under Kumble which Australia won because of Steve Buckor. Else, we would have won the series 2-1 in Australia.
“Sachin gave up captaincy because he was selfish” … another foolish statement. Sachin realized his limitations and realized he was not good as a captain. So he gave it up and focused on batting where he could contribute towards the team better. What is wrong? Of course irrational Sachin haters can say “he played for records”, I would recommend you guys to check your facts.

And yes, India won today without Sachin. That is good news. We have bench strength for one dayers. But what wud have happened in tests? Sachin scored 98 in Mohali(yes you will criticize him for not scoring when Laxman scored in the 4th innings). Sachin scored 214(and yes u will say he was playing for records). Sachine haters can happily continue to spew venom on him for our entertainment. I have only one thing to tell them “You are sore losers!! ”.

Sachin slowly loosing his image because now a days he is just sticking the team.He has to give way to youngsters and encourage them.Playing further is meaning less. A great player should satisfy himself and get retire gracefully with dignity.

Ponting

Bikash's point is valid. Ponting has very little time to rectify his absymal record in England and India as a captain. Notwithstanding the danger of his losing the captaincy in case of failure against England, he remains a great batsman. It is in this role that he can continue to serve Australia for a few years more. Sachin's stupendous performance over the last year should inspire all "middle aged" batsmen the world over!

Ponting looks mortal
by Balaji Krishnamurthy on Oct 20, 2010 04:21 AM

On cold statistics you could say that Ricky Ponting is nearing the end. The coming home series against England is critical for him. If he wins his career gets a boost. If he loses, I don't think he will survive. But he may yet get a second wind. 5 years ago, everyone wrote off Tendulkar. He has turned his batting around superbly in the last 3 years. Ponting may yet do that. As for captaincy, he has had to rebuild the team and done a reasonably good job. His problem is in finding a good spinner and in the middle order. Hauritz after some good performances is now under scrutiny. Hussey has been struggling for nearly 3 years. Australia's domination had been built around strong batting and good bowling. The batsmen competed with and complemented each other and the bowlers did well. But now the middle order looks iffy with Hussey showing signs of decline and North being inconsistent. Ponting is still their best batsman, but earlier he had serious competition. But not now. He is far and away their best, with no competition, and that should worry Australia.

Sticky Potty

Sticky Potty took over an all conquering team from Steve Waugh. The arrogance went to his head.He thought he was God and antagonized everybody with his sledging, personal attacks and 'holier than thou' attitude. He thought he was a demi-God.I was in England during the 2005 Ashes which England won, and the atmosphere there was awesome.Ppl were so involved in the series and Andrew Flintoff was virtually a super-hero for the way he took the Aussies on.Sticky Potty remained arrogant and antagonized everyone with his prickly attitude. It was amazing when England held on for a draw in the final test to ensure Aussies went back empty handed.I was happy to see them lose a second series and then get humbled in India.Potty, your days are over.Your arrogance has ensured nobody will miss you except maybe in Hobart.
