1. Sachin faced Mcgrath, Pollock, Warne, Murlidharan, Marshall, Holding, Brett Lee, Waquar Younis, Wasim Akram, Imran Khan, Shoaib Akthar. He has taken all these bowlers to task.
2. Ponting faced mostly below average quality pace and spin bowlers. He didn't face the pace bowlers as Sachin did. So therefore, Ponting is great but not greater than Sachin and Bradman. Ponting always struggle against Harbhajan and Ishant who are club-level bowlers.
3. Bradman, always played against the same team. He played not too many tests. He didn't play enough to consider the greatest. He didn't face the bowlers Sachin faced. He didn't play ODI's. Had he played more than 100 tests his average would go down to under 60's.

Dear buddy, I applaud ur knowledge in sports. But, i am NOT okay with point no:3. Bradman was on totally different form of cricket where he had faced the bowlers only with gloves pad guard. Nothing else... DO NOT forget the days where he's given brith to new forms of cricket !!! Bodyline series was specially made for him and still its in history. I would say - you cannot compare Sachin & Brad. We can just say both are outstanding...

do you know the speed at which the bowlers used to bowl at that time ? It could easily be top speed of 120-130 being considered as fast bowlers. Going by the statistics, it certainly seems to be that way.

Harbhajan is a club level bowler?! Patel...are you a volleyball player by any chance?

then who is harbhajan. He cannot take wickets and he gives away easy runs. He cannot field.

Hahah.. Sachin hardly did not play when marshall and holding were there.. secondly he hardly played against the best bowlers of all Akram and Waqar.. Wheras Pointing played against the best akram and waqar..

I pity your cricket knowledge. If you check the records you will find Sachin and Waqar Younis made their debuts in the SAME test.
Sachin made his test debut in 1989 where as Ponting made his debut in 1995, so clearly Sachin has played Marshall, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and Younis much more than Ponting.
Funny that you took the name of Holding, he retired way before Sachin made his debut.

The point i want to make is pointing played more against Waqar and Wasim compared to Sachin.. the most imp. is on green top pitches and not on the dead indian and pakistan pitches.. that counts more than anything else..
Re: Re: Re: Re: Sachin vs. Ponting and Bradman
by Chaturchuramoni Chatterjee on Oct 19, 2010 07:46 PM
Ponting played 4 tests against Pakistan when Pakistan played Waqar Younis (2 in UAE (Sharjah), 1 in Sri Lanka and 1 in Australia)
Ponting played 3 tests against Pakistan when Pakistan played Wasim Akram. (All 3 in Australia)
Sachin played 6 tests against Pakistan when Pakistan played Waqar Younis (4 in Pakistan, 2 in India)
Sachin played 7 tests against Pakistan when Pakistan played Wasim Akram (4 in Pakistan, 3 in India)
So obviously Sachin played more, and about green tops unfortunately all India-Pakistan test matches have been played in either India or Pakistan, so Sachin can't help it. However, Sachin has excelled against likes of McGrath, McDermott, Brett Lee etc in Australian wickets.

Bruno Monteiro, As usual u talk without any logic. U shud know that Sachin and Waqar debuted in the same series, when Imran was the captain, which means when Wasim Akram was in his peak form. This itself shows how qualified u r to talk about cricket, let alone Sachin !
Re: There was a time .......
by Arpit Patel on Oct 19, 2010 04:38 PM
yes at that time Sachin's average was like 52-53. Now Sachin has an average of 57.
he is still a great player. He can still score runs but he is not as consistent as our great Sir Sachin Tendulkar. The last year Tendulkar has screwed bowlers all over the park and has consistently scored centuries and mostly all of them match-winning or match-saving centuries. Also last 3 years, Sachin has taken control of who is the bast batsmen in the world. Mr Ian Chappell, your brother Greg Chappell has realized that Sachin is the best in the world, even better than Bradman.
Its really bad that all our Indians are not feeling Proud of Sachin, Instead they are being Jealous and envying og Sachin. The Greatest player is Sachin for the following reasons 1. More than 30000 International runs 2. There is no 3rd Umpire during old times and so chance of getting out by 3rd umpire is more and i had seen lot of old matches that the benifit of doubt in run out goes to batsman and so the chance of scoring more runs during the old period is more. 3. During old period, you cannot have great bowlers. Until late 60s and 70s you dont have good bowlers to say. But after 80s there are so many great bowlers and sachin alomst faced all other than Dennis Lillie. Bradman never faced variety attack. Remember Sachin's innings of 97 during 2003 WC against pak. You have Akram, Waqar, Shoaib Akthar. What else you need. Three of all time greats. NO QUESTION OF ASKING THE QUESTION WHO IS GREAT- IT IS INDEED SACHIN TENDULKAR OF INDIA. WE SHOULD BE PROUD OF INDIAN
Rubbish i say, all BCCI needs is a gap of 3 weeks to schedule another 2 series tour and who knows Ricky will be on the winning side. Aha they have a gap of 3 weeks between SA Tour and World Cup, oh but that is booked for Srilanka to play a 2 test, 3 odi as World Cup practise.
THIS QUOTE HAS BECOME AN HONOUR ITSELF FOR THE GOD, AS RECORDS ARE TOO SMALL AND MEAN , RECORDS=GAME ITSELF FOR SACHIN , AND OTHERS PLAYS FOR THIER PLACE , PLAYS THE GAME , WHILE GOD SACHIN PLAYS FOR WHAT RECORDS.

agree and he never had to face real fast bowlers except Larwood. There was no reverse swing or ball tempering pakis to challenge him. I think Bradman playing today, his average would have been around 40's

Akhil Verma
:) you guys have really fantastic logic... :)
You have clearly proved that ALL batsmen during Bradman's era had an average of 100.... which is what clearly proves that the bowling during that time was inferior... :)
And ALL batsmen today score at the average of 56, which is what proves that the bowling has improved... :)
So why do you think Michael Hussey is not the same level of player as Sachin? Coz he faces the same "type of bowling" and the type of bowling was the cornerstone of your "fantastic logic"... eh? :)
A scientific analysis based on the following variables (mentioned
below) have proved that Sachin is atleast 6 time better than Don
Bradman, 3 times better than Gavaskar, 2 times better than Lara,
Ponting and Viv Richards.
SO THERE IS NO AS SUCH COMPETITION FOR THE POST OF GREATEST PLAYER
EVER....THAT PLAYER IS SACHIN TENDULKAR.....
1. Quality of bowlers faced 2. Variety of pitches played 3. Level of pressure 4. Level of fitness required 5. Total runs scored at international Level 6. Amount of cricket played 7. on-field and off-field conduct

Regarding Bhajji case.. If i call u a Mot fkr, iwill it hurt you or not?? But thats a normal word in western countries..
If ur frnd says u a monkey, will u be hurt?? Its a normal word in Indian culture and the stupid aussies made a huge cry over it and tried top bring Bhajji down.. But our board did the right thing by supporting our player..

u r very true. Sachin is a good player no doubt, but steve or Ricky are good captains and palyers coz they played well from the front for the counrty not like sachin only for records.

@ sHARON "Only for records," what does that mean, dudue? Don't the runs made by him count in the team total? Records exist with life altogether. You live 5 years, it might be a record for some people; you live 55 years, that too might be record for some other people. Sachin is living his game more than others that's why is making more records than others. Punter made 3x70's here in India, played rather well compare to his reputation in Inida but what's outcome; he lost both the matches! Does that mean he played only for his records as he couldn't win matches for his team?
