The bigger joke is between Sachin and Dhyan Chand, there are 81% votes. This shows how ridiculous this poll is. Only 19% amongst Federer, Pele, Ali, Carl Lewis and the rest of the non-Indian nominees. LOL. This is a poll with a lot of credibility.

A few sportspersons like Federer, Johnson, Pele etc. are included in the list. I am not sure whether it is going to the world audience or confined only to India. Cricket is not known to 95% of the countries in the world. It is an 8-nation game. India is cricket crazy and we are obsessed with the game and Tendulkar's achievements. Naturally, all Indians will vote for him and he will win hands down. But is it a true reflection of real greatness? After all, most of the others in the list of TOI ( I do not remember the complete list) have played or are playing global games unlike cricket which is confined to just 8 countries. So, how far it is correct to even conduct such a poll? In our own country, even the achievements of the likes of Bindra (Olympic gold), Vishwanathan Anand (multiple world championship played by many more countries than cricket) will definitely rank higher. as you have enough knowledge about this game than you must be aware about a term called AVERAGE. Can you mark him up than Bevan or Bradman who created 29 centuries in just 59 test matches. or even andrew flintoff , one who lifted the ashes almost on his own effort despite having the most greatest player in opponent Australia . i am accepting his long 21 year career with no major injury other than teniss elbow issue. in this way he is great same as ranatunga and Chaminda vass.

Reminds me of a time when people used to measure me up to an entire class. you are good in chess, but xxyy player can give you competition you are good in athletics but -- oh wait we don't have a competitor You are good in badminton , but player xx from section abc can give you competition you are good in table tennis, but player xyz from section abc will give you competition.

You are right, his greatness is known worldwide in the 8 countries playing country!!!!! (I am saying 8 countries, because the rest playing cricket just make up the numbers!)
he is hardworking, and a great athlete in the field AFS physical fitness and command over his game is concern. but as this is a team game and he need to contribute in some critical time, same like ranatunga , david boon and sir viv is femous for. In this criteria kapil dev and Gauti, Robin singh is much ahead from sachin.

Sachin deserves Barat Ratna not only for what he contributes to the field Cricket & Sport, but also of his contribution in the jovial mood of india & also for showing the way that how one can be down to earth after achieveing so much. But the biggest reason that he should confer Barat Ratna is Sachin have brought so much proud to India & promote Sport as a whole in India. He also be the face of India as he not only provide the way that how one souldn't go for money all the time but at the same show respect money. He is perfect Roll Model For US to be awarded the ALL DESERVING HONOUR "THE BARAT RATNA" for SACHIN.
