your initial 4 points is justifying his popularity not greatness.

Once Johny lever landed in sydny airport , and whole public jammed the airport management , in the same airport Sir ben Kingsly also landed at same time, and nobody recognize him. Than he himself went to Johny leaver to give compliment him.

Hope this incident not making greatest to Johny lever than sir Kinsgly.

A cricket God would not consider anything impossible in cricket and would have fought with tailenders to avoid at least an innings defeat or show the SA bowlers who is the boss.

@Len Hutton. It is well known that we are worshippers of individual achievements. Gavaskar and Kapil were similarly worshipped during their time. Each time sunny scored a century, nobody cared what was the result of the game. As for media, they are ony after TRP. Now coming to intl cricketers, our media keeps asking only about Sachin to them and are fishing for compliments. These intl cricketers don't by themselves say Sachin is good or great. He is co-operative with youngsters just like Dravid, Laxman or anybody else. Nothing great.

Yes, and no need to talk of his records because they are useless and a waste of time.

For "blindworshipers" of SRT....
by Mahesh Dave on Dec 24, 2010 11:10 AM  | Hide replies

Sachin's reality....
the Great or Coward???????
The unimaginable happened on Sunday. Sachin Tendulkar joined the ranks of mortals in the eyes of Indian cricket fans. After pottering around for 33 minutes for a solitary run, he lamely poked a widish ball from James Anderson to the wicketkeeper to plunge India to 28 for 3 and began his walk back to the dressing-room. The normal consequence of the Tendulkar dismissal at an Indian ground is a hushed, funereal silence. That was never going to be case this time because of the presence of a large and voluble posse of English fans. But when Tendulkar was about halfway to the dressing-room, the booing started, most noticeably and vociferously from the Garware Pavillion, which is just above the dressing-room, and which is populated exclusively by the invitees of the Mumbai Cricket Association. And soon it spread to the other parts of the ground.

you know, there is something called "FITNESS TEST" that players must pass before the match ?

But form can take a while to come back after such injury layoffs. The only way one gets to proper form is by playing matches DIMWIT !

Every player does this, not ONLY TENDULKAR

for example " ponting is doing this after just about recovering from the fractured finger"

Ooops, was that too much of common sense your minuscule brain could comprehend ? its ok, ask your m.u.m to read it out like bed time stories for the weekend

My reasoning was SriLanka were late entrants and matured in test only over the last 3-4 years when they adding some bite to their pace attack. Otherwise, they always struggled from 1982 to 2002 or so.

ooooh so sri lanka matured in the past 3-4 years only ?

NICE

So it took them 20 years to mature into a test team

Guess the 950 runs hit in 1997 was because they batted 3 times in an inning

your all point is valid.
but you need to see some other factor also,
we are living in the age of materialistic consumerisation.
Here market and the MNC players keep eyeing to a person where they can invest more money to seel their product.

Media is purposely helping them to showing sachin and KRK face more and more in idiot box.

I think luxman got a very poor response after his 76 match winning knock just 2 month back, but consider same situation with sachin, Media is praising his 50th test century despite loosing the match in a shameful way.

AFA record and quantity is concern ,no doubt he is great till now.

But same time in the whole cricket world peoples keep questioning abut his match winning ability.
in this criteria hope we never heard any question for Sir Don,Sir Viv or Hadley or even Lara.

In this yardstick still he is lagging and going to end up his career with this question mark ever.
No matter how hard you will justify his record.

It will not be wrong to say, Sachin's runs have hurt India.

A few sportspersons like Federer, Johnson, Pele etc. are included in the list. I am not sure whether it is going to the world audience or confined only to India. Cricket is not known to 95% of the countries in the world. It is an 8-nation game. India is cricket crazy and we are obsessed with the game and Tendulkar's achievements. Naturally, all Indians will vote for him and he will win hands down. But is it a true reflection of real greatness? After all, most of the others in the list of TOI ( I do not remember the complete list) have played or are playing global games unlike cricket which is confined to just 8 countries. So, how far it is correct to even conduct such a poll? In our own country, even the achievements of the likes of Bindra (Olympic gold), Vishwanathan Anand (multiple world championship played by many more countries than cricket) will definitely rank higher. However, as everything is media driven and popularity driven, you have to perhaps bow to that and say, `Tendulkar is the greatest ever sportsman', even if you are not convinced of the same!
