why the Indians are too much bothered about IPL. It is just a game, which does not benefit to the general people of India. It wastes the most precious time of the Indians and fill the pocket of very very few people, who even wont care the normal Indians.

U wont learn this.Govt failed another security test.

We missed benefits of everyone by denying the glow in the recessionary economy which wud hv bn flared by few thousand crores. Many small people wud hv also got some earning as temporary employment/contracts. Those who are seating on money wud hv brought some currencies in the system. Do not criticise IPL becasue some rich people are going to make money. When money circulate in the economy it benefits everyone be it common men or rich men.

Of course, election is of paramount importance but any event uniting the nation on one theme also encourages certain values, spirits, entertainment to rejuvenate and IPL is definitely going to enage people in some activity which is better than sitting idle during summer vacations for children who are not part of electioneering. Why can't the EC use this platform of IPL to send message to people to come out for voting and right voting? Think positive from this IPL.
Also think about the adverse impact of exporting IPL to other country. The economy of SA will prosper from Indian event. The message of our incapacity to organize IPL will also send wrong signals to the World. India will be equated with unsafe country like Pakistan.

Think, If Govt could have managed both election and IPL with balance. Success of the both would have created the Super Power Image of Indian in the World.
Indians, be positive & choose your Govt which prioritise India's interest and national pride on top.

Why should we provide security to IPL?
by Pavan Kumar on Mar 24, 2009 11:41 PM  | Hide replies

I just could not understand why do government forces (whether it’s Army or Police) have to provide a security for private tournament like IPL? BBCI is neither a government body or associated to any sports body in India. It is completely governed and administrated by private individuals. It denied many times to become part of a government body. So why do you spent taxpayers money to guard a private tournament. BCCI is so rich why it can’t have its own security or hire a private security for the tournament. I would have been angry with government if they have denied security for Common Wealth games or Asian games. As a taxpayer I prefer my army guarding nation for peaceful elections rather than guarding a few private individuals (with due respect to all sports men playing in IPL). All those who are crying here for country’s image why you guys can’t volunteer to provide security to BCCI and keep the tournament in the country?

WEAK SIGNAL.??!! THE LARGEST DEMOCRACY IN THE WORLD IS CONDUCTING ITS PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS, AND FOR FOCUSING ON IT, THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT HAS NOT TAKEN ANY RISK BY REFUSING SECURITY FOR A PRIVATE MONEY-SPINNER EVENT. HOW ON EARTH WOULD IT BECOME A WRONG SIGNAL TO THE REST OF THE WORLD???

What are negative signals here? Terrorism is a global phenomena, do you think western countries are safe havens. Terrorism had become a part of modern day life. It is no more a surprise or an event of fear. India is the biggest democracy, we have 600 million voters, free and safe elections are sign of our democracy. On the D-day I personally prefer to go and vote rather than watch an IPL match. Right to Vote is my fundamental right, government have to prefer to save my rights rather than guarding something else.

Agreed, government charges for security services, but they are highly subsidised. The security services are primarily for state purposes, they can be provided to guard private individuals when there is no national cause or no requirement of them for time (Reserve forces). During the national elections they are more important the guard the state. If you say I am paying, then why do you need government forces, pay and get the private security services. You are organising such huge tournament with lots of amounts involved why can’t you devote some of that cash to your security?

Little did we know , most of the the time during elections in sensitive areas , there is section 144 invoked so that there's is no law and order situation , and to enforce the application of IPC 144 , security forces need to maintain vigil and security

IPL is nothing but a shrewd combination of Cricket and Business , I want to ask the organizers of IPL that they knew that POLLS are bound to happen likely in april-may , had they sought security clearance from Government of India? the answer is no , then why in the wildest of their dreams IPL organizers thought they can organize this event .

Its like Counting Feb 29 in Non Leap Year ...

IPL organizers ..grow up ...think about the nation ...Nation First ...You should have cancelled 1000 such IPL's for the sake of nation ....Its a matter of national shame that you moved IPL for business reasons and maligned Government of India ..you have lost the right to represent India ....its only a premier league now ....Good Move Mr Chindambaram ....

If you look one way, at it. IPL provides window for many upcoming players in india along with the Star power. So for them it shud be a good experience playing on south african pitches.

But honestly, terrorists have been successful in one way. Creating Panic in India, for the IPL, Hitting the monetary benefits to cricket clubs, taxes, hotels, cricket loving public.

Its lame to watch some match of Rajasthan Royals Vs Chennai Kings in Durban... Ha ha sounds ironical..aint it?

Kangress Vs. NCP: Sonnia's Kangress wins, INDIA loses Pak smiles
by Cool ChandraThakur on Mar 24, 2009 11:35 PM  | Hide replies

Pak would be laughing like crazy :(

Sonniaji hit a last ball SIX (First approving the changed schedule of IPL, then at last moment refusing security via her Kangress govt in Maharashtra & AP)

This is all politics. IPL promised to hold the matches only on non-election days (2 days after election). So actually the paramilitary forces would have already been present & deployed & well-rested. No need to transport them from their base.
But, BCCI is headed by Sharad Pawar of NCP, so Congress was always trying to pull the rug under his feet.
After Kangress came to power in Rajasthan, Lalit Modi lost the BCCI election.

But now Maharashtra & AP (both ruled by Kangress) at last minute went back on promise to provide security & so IPL is kicked out of India.

The message that goes out is India cant host International games (just like Pakistan) coz its not safe.

So in the match between Kangress & NCP:
Losing Captain: Sharad Pawar
Man-of-match: SONNIA MADDAM for her last ball Sixer. (First approving the changed schedule of IPL, then at last moment refusing security via her Kangress govt in Maharashtra & AP)

But the real loser: INDIA

SOME IDIOTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND.
by Manu Zach on Mar 24, 2009 11:27 PM

THE IPL BILLIONAIRES SHOULD HAVE EXPECTED THIS. THE BCCI IS HEADED BY A VETERAN POLITICIAN. HE SHOULD HAVE HANDLED THIS EFFICIENTLY.
AS ELECTIONS ARE CONDUCTED IN MULTIPLE PHASES, THE PROCESS BECOMES MUCH MORE COMPLEX. CONDUCTING THE IPL, THAT TOO IN MULTIPLE CITIES REQUIRES TREMENDOUS EFFORT. AFTER THE LAHORE ATTACK ON SRILANKAN PLAYERS, SECURITY OF PLAYERS HAS BECOME AN ISSUE OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE. ALL THESE CANNOT BE SORTED OUT IN A SHORT SPAN OF TIME. EVEN A SMALL UN TOWARD INCIDENT CAN RESULT IN CATASTROPHIC CONSEQUENCES.
BUT SOME IDIOTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND.

Can't provide security ??
by J on Mar 24, 2009 11:10 PM  | Hide replies

Yeah.. politicians need more security than common people.. so they can't spare security forces.. C'on..I mean a country of over 1 billion and it does not have enough security people??? It is a joke..

And who says elections and games can not be held during the same time frame? Do not have matches on the election days in that specific state.. and BTW are people intersted in hearing crap from our politicians (sic) or watching the match at night ??

How many jobs could have been created due to IPL??? Plenty.. does it help economy or not.. Yes it does..

But ..the stupid congress decided against it.. coz they can't manage both (election and games) So.. the big question is how can they manage a country???

I don't to hurt the sentiment of you guys who think so much about national security and the tax payers maoney etc etc..

First understand completely about "Security". Security (state & national) are different (governance wise) and it is up to the state govt. to decide on deputing the security forces...unless it is a 26/11 like scenario.

People who believe that India does not have enough security (and called me names.. like morons idiots etc) should first understand that if India as a country can not provide security for two national events then there is basically something very wrong with the "security of the country".

I bet you.. if BCCI was headed by Rahul gandhi.. IPL would have still been held in India..
