National Pride ??
by antar jaal on Mar 25, 2009 02:23 AM

No it should not be a national pride issue. However, it has economical impact. The people who work at the stadiums and vendors do make revenue and it helps the economy. Granted most of it goes to the coffers of the IPL management / committee. I think the GOI did the right thing (how much ever I hate to support a Congress decision; I thihk it was the right decision).

Kangress Vs. NCP: Sonnia's Kangress wins, INDIA loses Pak smiles
by Cool ChandraThakur on Mar 25, 2009 01:55 AM  | Hide replies

Pak would be laughing like crazy :(

Sonniaji hit a last ball SIX (First approving the changed schedule of IPL, then at last moment refusing security via her Kangress govt in Maharashtra & AP)

This is all politics. IPL promised to hold the matches only on non-election days (2 days after election). So actually the paramilitary forces would have already been present & deployed & well-rested. No need to transport them from their base.
But, BCCI is headed by Sharad Pawar of NCP, so Congress was always trying to pull the rug under his feet.
After Kangress came to power in Rajasthan, Lalit Modi lost the BCCI election.

Now Maharashtra & AP (both ruled by Kangress) at last minute went back on promise to provide security & so IPL is kicked out of India.

The message that goes out is India cant host International games (just like Pakistan) coz its not safe.

So in the match between Kangress & NCP:
Losing Captain: Sharad Pawar
Man-of-match: SONNIA MADDAM for her last ball Sixer. (First approving the changed schedule of IPL, then at last moment refusing security via her Kangress govt in Maharashtra & AP)

But the real loser: INDIA
Only happy spectator: PAK

Let's respect Nation's Priorities
by My View on Mar 25, 2009 01:25 AM  | Hide replies

Let's respect Nations's Priorities, IPL is just business and a way of filling BCCI's coffers. Thanks to ICC that they have left just a month betwen April-May without cricket in their packed FTP, otherwise BCCI would have planned IPL every quarter to make their balance sheet rosy.

From the politics perspective, BJP would have blamed the govt. anyway even if home ministry had accepted to provide security for matches to go on. BJP might have blamed the govt. saying it has compromised on Election security by accepting to provide security to IPL. You never know.

So what if its a business, its an entertainment for us. You are u worried if someone makes money. IPL requested to have both with lot of options, govt was not able to accept that, so that doesnt mean it shud be scraped. BCCI did the right thing and by shifting its not hurting anybody though we wud have loved to be held in India

Did IPL v/s ICL made easy for Indian team to win matches overseas
by My View on Mar 25, 2009 01:22 AM  | Hide replies

Think about this... if New Zealand had an option to use players who are part of ICL to play in the current India-NZ series, what would have been the result?

If Shane Bond had played ... and NZ made wickets like they prepared the last time .. we would not have reached 200 in any of the 6 innings. NA was definitely affected by the ban on ICL players.

BCCI has used the good old corporate strategy to beat competition. If Indian team wins more games overseas, then this would bring more sponspors and ultimately more revenue to BCCI. We need to think what happenned during World Cup when India was out in the first round itself, there were sponsors who wanted to shift to other sports, and then suddenly India went on to win T20 world cup which was unexpected. BCCI saw this T20 as a potential product, thanks to ICL that BCCI has kept all good players out of national scene, and there were players like Gilchirst who retired to participate in the inaugural IPL.

Nothing to do with 'national pride'?
by Siddaraju Boregowda on Mar 25, 2009 01:14 AM  | Hide replies

You are correct... It's nothing to do with national pride...

But it is everything to do with 'national shame'.

money...profit...crowd...security compromise.. talks apart, ultimate truth is our pride nation can't afford election (streach over one month), and a tournament at the same time.

We spend all the time comparing ourselves with other nations..how good we are... how soon we are going to catch up. But, things like this shifting tournament remind us what actually we are as a nation. There was some spirit in the country because of high youth population and bloated passion for single game which resulted in some big thing which we can not handle.

When can we host Olympics? 1000 years later?

Terrorists can win only against India. Who says pak is a failed state? looks like it's a successful one. It does what it does successfully.

India is too chaotic..
The public of the Republic of India are responsible for all these mess. They are so crazy that they neither able to choose their right leader nor to respect the national heroes (from any field). Indians are becoming socially impotent as a nationhood. A large portion of the people of India are not mature enough to handle democracy.
