have you people given enough trial to players like Badrinath (of dravid style)? The poor guy just warms the bench and goes bk to domestic side to make runs

jadeja is below par than Dravid..he is a master, jadeja is young only and has to learn a lot.he has potential but has to go a long way. Badri is unlucky i wud say. he shud have been given some chances.

Tendulkar
by Indian on Aug 18, 2009 08:23 AM  | Hide replies

If Sachin Tendulkar can play in the ODI XI then there is nothing wrong with Dravid playing. Poor Dravid he had to always play according to others' tunes, be it holding one end or standing behind the wickets, he doesn't have the backing like Sachin has with the Mumbai lobby. Nothing wrong with Dravid in the team.

Performance speaks for the players. Compare Sachin and Dravid's records in ODI's and the difference between the 2 is very very obvious. Sachin is very much a force in ODIs too but Dravid is simply not there!

I feel Dravid is still a force in the test matches, but selecting him for ODIs is a mistake.

On top of it, the selection comittee has delivered a very negative message to the youngsters. Just one bad series and Rohit Sharma is out, while Virat Kohli has been left high and dry without a decent trial!!!

Definitely Dravid is not the best at this point of time, but after seeing the 20-20 World Cup performance, India is back to the pin code run performance and loosing wickets, we do not have a player like Dravid at this time, at least why not try Dravid and give him a honarable exit? It is coz of Dilip Vengsarkar's ego a great player like Dravid is shown disrespect, just coz he resigned his captaincy without informing Dilip he dropped Dravid without informing him in advance just for a respect an ex-captian should get

Why do you want to bring Tendulkar into it? Come on yaar, in one day cricket, there is no way you can compare the records of Sachin & Dravid...Sachin is miles ahead, at least till now. Who knows, with the IPL around, Dravid may start to play very well in one days also.

tell me how strong the Mumbai lobby is for Cricket, they just have wastages making it to team XI. Okay fine with Sachin he is great player, but still he is 36, so is Dravid, come on give way for youngsters waiting in the fence Virat Kohli, Raina these people do not have the mumbai backing, Sameer Dighe, Sairaj Bahutule, Vinod Kambli, Abey Khuruvilla, they just came to the playing XI coz they are from Mumbai. Mumbaikers must be ashamed of this.

Indian, Kambli had a great potential everyone knows this. so dont say that he came just becoz he was a mumbaikar.it is a different story that his personal matters crushed his cricket career well before else he wud have been sitting right here on all the records books. he had enormous talent and temprament.in Achrekar's words Kambli was one of the best student he ever had.

Dravid
by Pankaj Kakoti on Aug 18, 2009 08:19 AM

Let us think of the current assignment at hand than vision 2012 World Cup. Otherwise we will again go the great behanchod Greid Chappal's way. Dravid is a great player and the best players on current form should play irrespective of anything else.

This is terrible prep for WC 2011.
by Gorango Thakurta on Aug 18, 2009 08:14 AM  | Hide replies

Dravid used to be India's Toyota - Mr. Dependable. But he is a very slow scorer. Also, remember that he will be close to 40 by WC 2011, and will be even slower in the field. His selection is bound to dent the confidence of the young players and is a wrong message to send. Why not try out some other young talent from the dozens that played in IPL-2. That would build up the bench strength. Anyway. I have stopped trying to make sense of the selection process in India - and I am certain it is not merit based.

Indian XI seem to be one of the best in 2009, but the truth is there is no body who can hold one end in the young playing XI, can you name one? Dhoni has been trying to do Dravid's job of holding the wicket and hasn't been successful. If we were really the best team, then definitely Dravid should be out, but we are not that is the truth. Why not try one-two tournaments with Dravid and see? nothing wrong with that.

I don't know when this people started watching cricket, comparing tendulkar with dravid is a huge joke, tendulkar will make to any world best line up,same dravid was not good enough to make india best team, that is the difference.

writer says Tendulkar is Tendulkar, absoultely tendulkar is the most talented cricketer we have in india dead or alive,so nodoubt tendulkar will be never be dropped till he decide to quit.
by the way tendulkar scored 163 in his last matchs, dravid scored 142 in his last 7 matches.
that the difference.
somebody say strike rate dravid 72 to sachin 85.

Tendulkar is one of the best, but he stumbles when he's under pressure to perform. Honestly, for me, Dravid is better than Sachin. Sachin pisses off soon compared to Dravid

Sachin has no comparison... Dravid is very good better than other players, but sachin is better than the best...Dravid is great, but sachin is the greatest. i dont say Dravid is no more a force, but u can not compare him with sachin. in my opinion, dravid inclusion is really a good and bold step. i welcome this.

Dravid strengthens team - knows how to play bouncers!
by Talisman on Aug 18, 2009 07:51 AM  | Hide replies

Indian team needs Dravid. Otherwise who are you going to call to play the bouncers that fast bowlers everywhere will throw at the indian team?

Raina? He can't play bouncer. Not sure, why this golf swinger is in the team?

Way forward is to drop Raina and keep Dravid.

vision for 2011
by sharath chandra on Aug 18, 2009 06:05 AM

good article regarding vision 2011....but...imagin if INDIA looses very badly in tri series and champions trophy with the so called youngsters u have mentioned how will be the moral strength for WC preparations.... at present Dravid is the only batsman in indian team who can read mendis and able to counter short pitched-up balls technically. These youngsters failed miserably in these two deprtment. May be be it is time for them to sit and watch Dravid and learn some basics.

Absolutely...
by YoBro on Aug 18, 2009 03:44 AM

...not. I'm a huge fan of RD and SRT. But its time for them to make way for youngsters in ODIs. In Tests, the stakes are too high and we need them for atleast 2-3 years. But in ODIs, they have to go. This short-pitched theory is all hogwash. I mean, the best way for the youngsters to deal with it is to play more. Taking backward steps is no way to prepare a winning unit for 2011 WC.
