Ganguly and Dravid
by Mature Stud on Nov 22, 2007 08:46 AM

Not sure about Sachin or Laxman but Dravid and Ganguly should be able to do well...they are both hungry and cornered and the great competitors that they are...they will surely fire!!

Some people have all the luck...first it was agarkar, then sreesanth and now Munaf....they will have to play one good match out of ten and keep getting back the calls.

ponting is right
by Ricky Thukral on Nov 22, 2007 07:20 AM

Ponting is right when he says Sachin and Dravid couldnt bear the pressure of captaincy inspite of the fact that they were very good players.

Time will tell if Kumble falls in the same category or not.

One thing is for sure..Ganguly doenst fall in that category and the fact that Ponting didnt mention Ganguly among those to couldnt take pressure...speaks for itself the amount of respect Ganguly has just for his leadership in cricketing world.

Kumble as captain we are already on backfoot as we wont play two spinners and Australia have 4 left handers in top 6 so bhajji has to sit out most of the matches.

Test team for australia
1.Karthik or Sehwag
2.Dravid
3.Laxman
4.Sachin
5.Ganguly
6.Yuvraj
7.Dhoni or Pathan
8.Kumble
9 zAHEER
10.RP
11.sREESANTH

With kumble as captain we only have two options.
1.Play Kartik or Dhoni
2.Dravid to open
3.If Kartik PLays then pathan can play
4.If DHONI plays then sehwag can play.

without yuvraj, its not the best indian team
by tufan on Nov 22, 2007 06:16 AM

Yuvarj is currently the best indian batsman. only brahmin politics is keeping him out.
Kapil Dev and aqib javed while selecting the best joint indo-pak 11 had selected Yuvraj. the only other indian batsman to get selected was tendulkar

Yeah this will be the team but.. the question is can this tem take 20 wickets.. this is a defensive batsmen loaded and weak bowlers. If Munaaf breaks down.. which is not unreasonable.. they are dammned!!

by Anish Tulsian on Nov 22, 2007 02:10 AM  | Hide replies

After a thought (have enough free time at work :)) I think this would be my best team:

This is just my personal thought about the playing 11 for 1st test against pakistan.

1. Virender Sehwag (was Wasim Jaffer initially)
2. Dinesh Kartik
3. Rahul Dravid
4. Sachin Tendulkar
5. VVS Laxman
6. Saurav Ganguly
7. Dhoni
8. Anil Kumble
9. Murali Kartik (was harbhajan singh initially)
10. Zaheer Khan
11. Ranadeb Bose (Highest wicket taker in latest domestic season)

u have given reason for r bose saying that highest wicket taker, what about virendra sehvag, lowest run in current domestc cricket, on which skill u want him in the team, he has given chance in 20-20, 50-50 total floop and failed and wasim has better job then him. so stop thinkin and start working

Yuvraj fans don't worry...
by Alok Sharma on Nov 22, 2007 01:57 AM  | Hide replies

Yuvraj's fans should not worry. Yuvraj kaa number jaldi hee aayega (he will get his chance soon). I have a hunch that this series could well be the last one for Laxman or Ganguly or both. Both of them are just hanging by a thread as far as their test spots are concerned, and this selection committee will not hesitate in removing them if they fail in this test series. I do realize that in the test series in England Sourav did well. Of course, if Dravid does not click he will be shown the door too. So, at the end of this series there may be several openings in the middle order, and Yuvraj will definitely play in Australia.

Hi Alok

what you say makes sense but dont forget that dravid and laxman are such players who can be very effective out side subcontinent... technically and also consistant. We need both of them when we go down under !! other wise i dont think we can perform well out there !

Regarding yuvi it is really sad that he does not have a place in the team .... hope fully he would be there in the 2nd test atleast !!

Cheers MEN IN BLUE.......... !

I agree that Laxman and Dravid have class, and technique to do well in Australia. But the form is also important. During the 2004-2005 when Aussies toured India, all the Indian batsmen (with the possible exception of Sehwag) were out of form. Yuvi who was asked to open in the series performed very badly. And as a result of this collective loss of form of the batters, we got murdered!

Please don't include Ranadeb Bose in the team. He is a very slow bowler, and barely crosses 120kph speed. He will get murdered at the international level. The reason he gets lots of wickets in the domestics is because, there are very few classy batsmen there once the international stars are busy playing tests/ODIs.

No doubt that Ranadeb Bose is better than other slow medium bowlers. He has better line and length control than the remaining ones, and swings the ball too. But, at the test cricket level one should bowl at least around 130kph, or else be prepared for slaughter.
