ODI scores and performances don matter much in Tests
by mukul patwardhan on Nov 21, 2007 08:53 PM  | Hide replies

yuvraj shud be made to play in the ranji matches and when he scores big hundreds, double hundreds should he deserve a place in the test side....m no way supporting laxman here....i guess there are quite a few players who are in scorching form in the ranji's they shud be given a chance

Agree. Yuvraj is too good a talent to be sitting and wasting his time watching test cricket. He should either play Ranji or join ICL

MUNAF PATEL in the team???

MUNAF PATEL????? - now it makes sense, he must be in the team at any cost simply because the management group that manages the chief selector (vengsarkar) also manages munaf. he is a sorry sight on the field - watches th ball go past him and forever injury prone. AAH! nothing like having a godfather, isnt it?

poor irfan - he has worked so hard to get back to his old self, a brilliant outfielder, fine bowler, and a dependable batsmen but alas, he has no takers! in spite of not being fit in england, he was still in team (courtesy u know who!) even a layman can test Munaf Patel to find out his fitness...

our petty politicking will never end - the bombay-marathi syndicate rules courtesy vengsarkar and sharad pawar

one more thing - dont be surprised if the obese rajesh pawar is brought back! after all he is managed by the same group that manages vengsarkar...and of course! he is a bombay boy (fat be damned, running hard be damned, everything else be damned...)

Ranjit Roy ... Munaf Patel is a Gujju btw...not marathi...so you cannot accusse Vengy...

As far as Irfan Pathan is concerned he is a good bowler...but particularly with a new ball. He relies more on swing. Give the old ball in his hand and you will see his vulnerability. (i recomnd start watching cricket)
Now dont argue he has bowled well at the death in ODI with the old ball etc...he has ...but then the batsmen are just trying to slog you then..and its his ability of bowling in the block holes, bowling slowers etc which has helped.
Such deliveries wont help in Test.

Munaf Patel can make use of old ball perhaps better than any current bowler...in Test...80% of time you are using old ball. He can revers-swing..make the batsmen jump with his pace. Agree with you his fielding is not the best. But then that doesn't matter in Tests as much as it does in ODIs...
Hopefully he bowls at a good pace.

In fact Munaf Patel confuses batsman the way his name confuses me. He is Hindu or Muslim? Anybody knows.

Ramesh had a decent record against Pakistani bowlers and though he threw his wkt after 50s much like Gautam Gambhir now. Anyway Ramesh was hardly given a chance. Yohanan was probably given half a test match to prove himself, the rest were blink and miss chances.
Munaf Patel struggled to find a place so long as he played for Baroda, once he moved to Mumbai team, he gets regular chance...so the inference is that Mumbai club although weakening is still playing politics. Simple example is Ajit Agarkar, the chances that he has got no one ever has had!

considering that v r playing test match, munaf is better choice. v hv tendency to judge the performance of odi and t20 and extend it to test match. but different form of ckt require different players. irfan is good but for the wkt taking job, munaf perfectly fits in.

Lakshman's trick
by sridhara jayateertha on Nov 21, 2007 08:52 PM  | Hide replies

when hyderabad facing punjab he did not bat in second inning. he failed all in innings this year. if he failed again he may not selected for starting eleve for first test. he is great player. he shuld be in fifteen and shuld play in australia. but in india he shuld be replaced by yuvaraj. in abrod yuvi's technic may not be good for test cricket but in subcontinet he is ok.

Laxman has applied for Australian citizenship. Because he is still not happy scoring runs against Australians. So wants to play in their domestic cricket matches. So headache of having Laxman will go. However there is a problem. He may prolong goin to Australia.

Ravi Samra! Test match is not like playing 20-20 cricket. Test match is a real test to differentiate the men from the boys. Test matches mein achche achche batsmen ki pant dheeli hti hai!!!

KUMBLE Given His Due Quite Late

I am of firm belief that Mr ANIL KUMBLE is supreemely intelligent and hardest perseverent INDIAN TEST CRICKETER ever.
Whatever may be the consequence of the Test Series against Pakistan, it will be great to see that this modest tough character will give his best in both the roles as Captain and Bowler. Love him.

Kumble should have been appointed test captain earlier than dravid, even saurov, after sachin bcoz like sachin, azhar and dravid he has been one of the main trump figure who played a pivotal role in leading India to victory in Test Matches.
